Along with that, there were two kids, and one of them is 28. :E Unless you mean anything under 18 as a kid, then there were four, but then again, I'd be a kid too. :P

And TotA has about 7 anime cutscenes (although one is really bad >_>) and 8 CGI cutscenes...

And you got to when you're locked up?! WTF! That's about 2 hours into the game.

...

That said, I guess games I like that people don't are Tales of Symphonia and Abyss, and Legendia, to a lesser extent... >_>

I know a lot of people that like Phantasia for "ARCHE FUCKS LIKE A TIGER," and "MMMMMMMMM CLESS THAT FEELS SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!!!!" and say that they don't like the others because of "anime art style"... >_> I mean, not only did ToP have an anime art style, but those lines...

Two hours? It felt more like ten when I was playing it, but maybe I was bad at it. With regards to the "kids"- yeah, I meant that anything under 18 was a kid. They certainly didn't act like teenagers, either; twelve year olds would be more like it. And maybe not chibi, but they were definitely squat and non-realistic (which may be appealing in and of itself to some people, but not me). I may very well give the game another try at some point, but as it is right now I thoroughly dislike it.

If you're going slow, it could be 5...

And you don't like kids? Most RPGs are all 17 plus or minus 4 with an old fogey on occaision... Example: Golden Sun's cast was all 17 and under but Felix (18?), Piers (looks 17) and Kraden (old fogey). All FE lord are ~17 (Eliwood, Hector, Ephraim, Eirika, Ike are, Lyn is 15/16) There's a lot more... That's a lot of games you don't like. >_>

And they act like teenagers... I'm 17 myself and there are plenty of people that act like that... Mostly sophmores and juniors though. XD But seeing as how you don't have the characters that are older than 17 other than Kratos (Raine, Zelos, Sheena, Regal, *spoilers*) yet...

And they were squat and "unrealistic" only in the game (which is I suppose where it should matter...). They were normal anime people in the... anime and concept art. You don't like "unrealistic"? >_> Funny how you're on a PW forum then... The series is getting increasingly unrealistic *puts up flame shield*, not to mention PW has an anime art style, as do many JP games...

I enjoy both Golden Sun and Fire Emblem. Please tell me when the characters in those series had very stereotypical "let's save the world! :D" attitudes and dull dialogue that made them seem like they were twelve. I usually enjoy something a little more substantial than that in games.

I'm seventeen as well, and I played it when I was fourteen. I always hated the characters for their immaturity and boring traits. They always, always felt like ten to twelve year olds to me. Point me to something in the game that shows their mental maturity if you want- to be honest I can't remember much in the way of dialogue.

Yes. That's what I said, which is why I didn't like the design of the game.

That's a huge assumption (and a wrong one at that). I wanted them to be "normal anime people" in the anime. I also wanted them to be that way in the game itself. I never said I disliked anime art; in fact, that was one of the things that attracted me to the GS series in the first place. I said that:

As far as ToS is concerned, the main character doesn't get that attitude until a bit further, and in fact loathes the whole "Justice and Love will always win" thing.

I still agree the game's crap, however.

Hmm. I liked Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance. It had a decent job system and gameplay, though the judges are flippin' annoying. I can see why people have issues with the storyline, but I for one enjoyed it: it's certainly original. Not every game has you playing as the "bad guy."

Then there's Minish Cap. No one likes it. Why? :larry:

Final Fantasy IV is not so much shunned as ignored because it's ZOMG 2D. And FFVI/VII fanboys/fangirls don't seem to be willing to take off the damn blinkers long enough to notice the other games in the series; unfortunately, they seem to be in the majority. :grey: It's currently my favorite FF, though FFX is a close second. Speaking of which, I do agree that FFX is a bit on the easy side, but still a great game nonetheless.

So yeah, rant over.

The combat and quest system az FTA was awesome, but I so hated the main characters.

Who doesn't like Minish Cap? Personally, I love it!

Well, the FF4 3D remake is released soon on DS, maybe it gets more publicity. Anyway, I think both Final Fantasy 4 and 5 are way better than FF7 :)

Fire Emblem also had it, although it did have some, err- "dark" moments... (Lyon, Eliwood's dad, etc.)

SHUN THE NON BELIEVER!

The only games I like that are shunned are EBA and the Wii version of Spider-Man 3. I admit I was disappointed by the latter, but I still like it. They got the controls down well enough for me to like it. There's only one guy I know who shuns EBA though. It's no fun playing it around him because all he does is make fun of it. I let him (or maybe I made him) play the training level, and he now admits he only shuns the weirdness.

The biggest problem that Minish Cap wasn't the game itself but when the game was released. The game got great reviews and was kinda popular for the GBA fanboys. It got lost in the end of the swarm of the holiday where consoles like the DS and other home system just finished releasing a bunch of it's best titles of the year. People spent of their money on those games and skipped over it as they need to save money for the new games of the new year. Plus, the fact it got caught at the end of the GBA life really didn't help either.

Another one, Megaman 64. While I don't care for the Battle Network and Star Force series, I love any other Megaman series. This game was never appreciated as well as it should have been. Megaman 64, as confusing as it was at times, still is in my heart, despite it's hatred from some gamers.

...ROFL!

Most RPGs are/were like that...

But I thought that there was fairly little dialogue... If the text didn't scroll so slowly even on fast...

All the times they talked for more than 1-2 lines:
Vale (kid)
Vale (present)
Sol Sanctum
Elemental Star Room
Vale (again)
Vault
A cave >_>
Bilibin?
Imil
Marcury Lighthouse
Kolima (skippable if you go to the forst, IIRC)
Kolima Forest
Fuchin Temple (skippable)
Xian
Hama Temple
Alpine Crossing (skippable)
Kalay
Tolbi
The Cave...
Tolbi again
Venus Lighthouse
Kalay/Vault again (skippable)

The second one had about the same... And with the added "hols B to skip text" function...

Just remembered Splinter Cell on DS. Why does everyone hate that so much? It still looks, plays, and feels like Splinter Cell, and the controls are just fine. "OH NOES THE FRAMEWATE SLOWS DOWN!" So what? That's only when you switch to goggle vision, which is mostly useless anyways.

Rule of Rose did not have horrible gameplay, the developers deliberately made it like that because that's the kind of feel they wanted to create, absolutely archaic.

And NO ONE has ever shunned Odin Sphere. >_>

......maybe this is just the fanboy in me talking, but does JSR really qualify as a "shunned" game? I mean, sure it wasn't a commercial success, but has a pretty strong cult following(same with Earthbound). I'd probably understand more if it was JSRFuture, though. That received a bit more mixed reviews.

But in terms of "shunned" games, ahhhhhhhh.........man, it's tough to say. I'll go with Actraiser(even then, this is debatable). Sure it hasn't really aged all that well and its "God" mode is incredibly linear, but I can never get enough of the game.

Cannot agree more on this one. Loved that game. Great soundtrack, tons of fun, crazy bosses and levels... And that whole sushi castle. It (surprisingly) taught me a lot about Japanese geography that stuck with me even today.

FFTA is another one I liked. Playing it right now, actually. I rather liked the "abilities" system that everybody else hated, though granted, the laws were pretty annoying unless you could get them to work for you. Wonder how the "sequel" is going to be?

I loved Minish Cap until I got stuck at the very last dungeon and was somehow missing a key. Must have put a good 2 hours into that game backtracking before I gave up and started over.

I saw Mega Man 64 mentioned up there, which was a fairly awful (in terms of graphical quality) port of the Mega Man Legends game on the Playstation. There was a sequel and a spin off as well. It's definitely up there on my favorite series, but got a lot of crap. As a Mega Man game, yeah it sucked. It wasn't anything like Mega Man. But take it for what it is, and you just might love it. It's got some of the most original, likable characters this side of...uh...well...ten years ago?

Shenmue hasn't been mentioned, from the Dreamcast days. The voice acting was horrible (I didn't notice this when I was playing it as a kid), true, but the game had some great concepts. I really can't defend it... I just love the idea of having as much freedom in a game as you do in Shenmue. I can't stand up for it or logically prove that it was, in fact, a terrific game. But I love it. And more freedom in games is what's popular now. GTA, anyone?

Why can't I find that game anymore >3< I love it too damn much. Shadow of Destiny is awesome :larry:

Okay, MGS2. Well it's quite obvious why MGS2 was shunned, but it seems totally illogical to me >_>. Raiden, to me, was a good character to put into the game. He's the new guy, which gives Snake the aura of an expert. Raiden also has a very different personality, I feel.
And of course, I like the game play ^^

Two, SH4. I'm not sure how popluar it is, but I know most of the SH community say it's the worst game in the series. I've played SH3, but I still think SH4 was better. People complain about the first person view, but that gives it a much scarier feel, not able to see things coming up behind you. And Henry, he's a normal guy, just like you and me. It kinda makes it more personal, kind or like it could also happen to you (I hope it won't O.o)
Also, people say combat is slow. Bah, the guy's a photographer, not a warrior. If you picked up a pipe, and you had to fight disgusting, dead-fleash smelling creatures, how good would you be able to fight? (Assume you have no training or interest in fighting >_> ) I certainly wouldn't be able to fight well.

(That was long, Oops o.o)

I don't know if its a shunned game, but it certainly never got any attention... Space Station Silicon Valley on the n64.

That game was awesome. I still go back and play it, absolutely a fantastic game and at the same time horribly horribly cheesey and retarded :hotti:

I mean the humor was crude (sorta), using all the different animals and in all the different environments was fun as hell, especially some of the puzzles and minigames (one minigame at the end of each world. The trophies were pieces of your robot body that got seperated and scattered). And then the "final" battle was fun as hell running through a shrunken city, fighting off all the robot animals was fun.
The music was probably the corniest part, but I loved that. The "elevator style" music really made things more upbeat and humorous as you ran around the level, and if you wanted to you could blow the speakers up for fun :gymshoe:

Although one game which deserves alot more praise and attention (as well as bringing the damn prequel and sequel out in English) is Earthbound. Absolutely fantastic game. Easily one of, if not the best, classical style rpgs. Screw final fantasy up its high horsed @$$, those games have nothing on the epicness of Earthbound.

I saw this thread and immediately thought of the Boktai trilogy. A lot of people probably only noticed the first two games because of the Megaman crossover (sadly, including me), and even then, they were stupidly released here in Fall, so people thought they couldn't play them. For anyone who doesn't know, each of the Boktai games has a solar sensor (that's why the cart looks different from most GBA games and sticks out a bit, so sunlight can hit the sensor), which you need so you can purify the bosses and do some other stuff (especially in the first one where you can't just use Rising Sun Grenades against the final boss). The first game apparently sold well enough for us to get the second one over here, but we never did and likely never will get the third one... such a shame because I had to import it and it's awesome, but I can't read Japanese at all... good thing it's (usually) so easy to figure out what to do anyway... but heck, not only did the series do badly enough for us to not get the last part of the trilogy, they even tried to make Lunar Knights (Boktai DS in Japan) sound as least Boktai-like as possible (but failed miserably, as anyone who preordered it would know XD) so people wouldn't associate it with the solar games that did so horribly.

I really loved Baten Kaitos, probably one of the best RPG of its generation (better that ToS, in any case). Oh, and the battle system is pure brilliance.

Also, I really liked Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secrets on GBA, even thought the game is ridiculously short.

vanillawares got beautiful character designs

ummm... rule of rose, it had horrible gameplay yet an excellent story

Rule of Rose did not have horrible gameplay, the developers deliberately made it like that because that's the kind of feel they wanted to create, absolutely archaic.

And NO ONE has ever shunned Odin Sphere. >_>

go to jersey and ask about odin sphere, youll be asked if it was about the FF summon.

and rule of rose got bad reviews due to its gameplay. i still like it, but its controls werent exactly the greatest of them all, but i still like it
IT WORKS!!! I AM ONE CAN SHORT OF A SIX PACK!!!
You know, theres a lot of Franziska+Adrian sketches, but I'd like to see some Adrian+Maggey sketches.

Evolution for the Dreamcast. If the reviews are to be believed, it's your stereotypical second-string JRPG - clichéd characters, with dungeon-crawl gameplay (randomized dungeon-crawl no less).

But you know what? I love it anyway. ^_^

EDIT: And I stuck around for the sequel, too!

Ristar, FF5 (shun the non-believers!), Maniac Mansion, any HoMaM, Warpath, Seiken Densetsu 3. X-2 was terrible, but boy was it ENTERTAINING! Just that battle system - holy cow. I loved it.

Everyone I know hates or doesn't know them.

Christ on a bike, you need to know different people. O_o

Ristar was behind only Earthworm Jim and Vectorman when it came to Mega Drive platformers.

Final Fantasy V was the best of the 2D FFs.

Seiken Densetu 3 remains the only good game in its series.

GAWD. EBA.

Everyone seems to hate it because it's a rythem game that isn't DDR or Guitar Heros.

I personally love it, and I am addicted to it's goodness. I mean, even Nintendo Power recevied hate mail because they loved EBA so much. I'm really sad for everyone out there who missing out because they just look at the cover and brushed it off. Great game :D

Actually, everybody and their dead grandma loves EBA. It's fairly mainstream at this point.

Now that I've played ouendan 1 and 2 I have to say EBA doesn't even compare. No I'm not a weeaboo but I just like the characters and songs so much better. But anyways, I loved punchout (what a surprise) and pretty much all mystical ninja / goemon games

Simon's Quest. Odds are everyone here either hates it, or has never heard of it.

Unless you're talking about Castlevania, then I might've heard of it, but I don't know anything about it... :gymshoe:
