I've been working up the courage to write about Matt for a long time now, so there is gonna be more of him.
This isn't so much a series of fic as an excuse for me to write all my favorite characters together (heheheh). Here's hoping it works out okay.As for the "sweeties", I guess I didn't really see them so much as motherly as the silly pet names newlyweds use. Sweety, Honey, Baby, Pumpkin... (I don't quite remember if she calls him "anata" in the game...?). But I'm open to suggestions if you can think of something cuter.

Anywho, great chapter (as always) and I'm greatly anticipating the next one (as always). Now that the court case is settled I'm excited for Phoenix and Edgeworth's budding relationship again. :B

First of all, I'm going to start off with something relatively minor. "Shouldn't you be home mowing my lawn or something?" Damn! That line just...knocked me flat. It was like a punch in the gut, in a good way. The whole fight between the two of them was excellently orchestrated--I liked how upset Juan was, but how his first impulse was to blame Matt instead of himself, when he probably shared a good portion of the blame for Celeste's suicide.
Then, moving on to Adrian. Matt can't even remember her name, but knowing that she was close to Celeste, wants to be the one to give her the news out of that twisted impulse to play with people. The idea amuses him. Brr, you just captured that creepy side to him so well. (And the way he laughs when he figures out what she's trying to do, that she's trying to kill herself, AND THEN HE JUST WATCHES) Really complicated interplay here, where she makes him sick, but saving her is the same as letting her die--perhaps even more cruel...
Just excellent job all around. I'm really interested in seeing where you're going with this series of fics.
Color:
Afsdlfjslfjsdlfsdj! (That's good, btw) Note perfect! I was beginning to wonder if you could top the last chapter for me--even though there wasn't any actual P/E interaction--but you just NAILED it. I especially liked the scene with Mia and the juxtaposition of the scene with Miles. For so long, Phoenix has really leaned on Mia as his strength in a lot of respects, especially when it comes to court and the path he takes.
And while what she was saying was true, what I liked was that it was Miles telling the truth that really allowed Phoenix to release his pent up emotions. Because that is what would be important with those two as a couple, he gets something from Miles that he can't get any place else. The Feys, the rest of the cast, they all love him and support him and try to make him feel better. They're his friends, that's natural, that's important. But Miles can let him know he's made a mistake, and that it's not the end of the world. Not try to erase that mistake or tell him he shouldn't feel bad, but allow him to move forward with it as a learning experience.
This chapter was just incredibly polished and rang completely true to the characters. And that last paragraph and line especially were just PERFECT. I was completely floored. I can tell you put a lot of work into this chapter, as you said. It really shines through.
I really will miss this fic when it's over.

I'm still not entirely sure how the rest of the fic will work, since...it is a rather bizarre collection of characters I'm throwing together. But I am downright determined to force Matt and Yuusaku to interact! Wacky adventures are sure to follow.
...I should feel guilty, too, about throwing Yuusaku to the lions. But it's too much fun.

That's just what I was hoping to portray. Even though Phoenix lost in JFA, it still doesn't really feel like a loss, since he was more concerned with saving Maya than Matt the entire time anyway. Since he was forced into it, it wasn't *really* Phoenix that was wrong. In Color I really wanted to confront Phoenix with a genuine loss, something a little closer to what Miles had to go through in the first game. That way Miles could pass on the rest of what he learned back then: it's okay to lose sometimes, but more importantly it's okay to be wrong. But you have to accept it before you can leave it behind.
I'm so glad the chapter's been so well received; not that 18 is uneventful, but the end of 17 is really the climax. Miles and Phoenix just compliment each other so well, they're great fun to write for. I love this fandom.

Heh, maybe I should feel guilty for loving it so much too, but it was just perfect for Matt. That way of allowing some of his real self to push through. Reading that, I really, well, I felt like Juan. I could understand why Juan would get to the point where he would do ANYTHING to beat this asshole. Especially because he sees it and no one else does.

And you really, really did achieve that. But, more than that, it's the way you did it. You didn't have to beat us over the head with it. Allowing it to come through Miles words and Phoenix's feelings made it incredibly powerful.
It's funny how the game will sort of lightly touch on these things, but then they back away quickly. So it's nice to have fanfiction to fill in the gaps.

I disagree with Miles. I DON'T think Phoenix messed up, at least not as badly as he makes it sound.
Phoenix is a defense lawyer. The LAW entitles anybody--guilty or not--to a proper defense before being convicted. In that regards, Mia was right. It IS their job to trust. They HAVE to beleive that their client is innocent, or else they can't truly give them a proper defense that they are legally entitled to. If I think my client is guilty, then I'm not going to raise an objection I might have, I'm going to let things slide--and that in itself isn't a breach of the law. Yes, sometimes it comes back to bite you in the ass, but saying Phoenix made a mistake in trusting Chassie is like saying that Edgeworth/Friska/Godot make mistakes in trusting the evidence and believing that the accused are guilty when they're proven to be innocent in the end.
It's not a mistake, it's how the system works. A prosecutor that believes the accused is innocent might not do a proper job and maybe a truly guilty person might get acquitted. A defense lawyer that believes his client is guilty might not do a proper job and maybe a truly innocent person will be convicted.
In that regards, I think Mia was a lot more right that Edgeworth.

Seriously, I will say this : Color is the best fic I ever read. Bar none. Bar nothing. Bar whatever you want. It is the best fic I ever read, period.
I know I didn't read crappy fics before, either. If it looked bad, I just didn't read it. To capt my attention, there needed something special, something that grabbed me and told me "READ THIS OR YOUR LIFE IS FORFEIT!"
Color did that, but in a gentle manner, much like a romancized first lovemaking time. I literally felt penetrated by your fic, and thus give verbose praise to you.
I need to rerereread it again in order to shake me off this particular "fanboy" rant and perhaps spot a fault or two in the writing in order for me to stop the infatuation I have with Color.
Otherwise, I'd be comparing the rest of your fics with Color and that, in my opinion, just wouldn't be fair.
So, well, you strung your readers, amongst those I am, along for one goddamned long ride, and I couldn't be happier about it. Three cheers for the end of Color even though I don't want it to end dammit.
