Okay, Wooster's temporarily back after a combined hiatus of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn and PW3 (Only the latter of which I've yet managed to beat)

But, here's a summary. If you'll note, my avatar works, while the majority of everyone else's does not. This is because my avatar is remotely loaded, and everyone else's here uploaded directly to the forums.

The script that is used to load the avatars that you uploaded is making dreamhost (Our host) quite cranky because it's being loaded so much. Personally I suspect this might be because in addition to viewing it on the topics so much, people are hot-linking those avatars. (Shifty glare at the reader)

If you want to fix your avatars in the mean time, go upload your avatar to Photobucket or whatever, and update you profile with a remotely loaded avatar.

In the mean time, I'll be looking into what solutions I can come up with for a more serious return to forum hosted avatars. But this is not something that'll be done in a few hours. This is a semi-long term project.

Re-uploading mine fixed it. It was on Imageshack before, too, and did not load properly even then.

That's an optical illusion. You likely uploaded it to the forums 'from' image shack, but didn't actually remotely link it to the forums. I disabled the ability to upload the files to the forums before I made the post, so all you really could've done was remotely link. That might be the source of your confusion.

So that's why mine suddenly disappeared. So I uploaded it to an image-hosting site, but then changed my mind and decided to use this one, which is a bigger version of one I already had uploaded. :P

ok, i don't get this, everyones avatars have started appearing except for mine and a couple other users i ussually see...

I uploaded it to photobucket like a couple of users said, but it still isn't working,

any word on this?
