EDIT: Okay, so I loaded up the Tutorial: Conditions in the Case Maker, then hit the Build Case thing. It loaded up to 100% (it says) then a box comes up saying "Unable to find "rage.exe" in folder "Rumtime"!"
Sooo... I'm going to try to make a "Rumtime" folder, and see what that does
It occurs to me that maybe the Conditions Tutorial was never meant to be an .exe...
EDIT2: Well, I tried it with "The First Turnabout", and while I was able to see the thing loading, it still came up with that little rage error. I feel some rage of my own coming on...
Moved the exe into a new folder "Rumtime". Maybe it's just a typo?
Final EDIT: Nope, naming the folder "Runtime" didn't work either. I think I'm going to stop for now before I hurt my computer...

I can't believe I didn't figure it out before.IMPORTANT FOR ALL DEALING WITH THE RAGE.EXE FILE:::::::::
You need to have a folder called "Runtime" whereever you have the Case Maker stored, be it desktop or a seperate folder. In Runtime, put rage.exe into it, and then you should have no problems ^^ Thanks to kashmir for helping me figure it out, in a roundabout sort of way... (They had images, and I made the connection there)
And Slezak, that tutorial was great! I'm not quite to that point yet, but it'll help later on ^^

I: External File Manipulation
1. Create a folder in the Characters subdirectory of your project with an easy-to-associate name (like Wright for Phoenix Wright, Butz for Larry Butz, Maya for Maya Fey, etc.)
2. Put all the GIFs for that character into that folder.
3. Start renaming the GIFs as such:
- For the normal pose, rename the GIF to the same name as the folder. I.E. Wright for wright-normal(a).gif, etc.
- For other poses, rename the GIF to the same name as the folder with a word after it for the particular pose you want it to be associated with. For example, for Phoenix's Confident sprite, I'd name it WrightConfident.gif
- For the Talking sprites, rename the GIF to the same name as the non-talking sprite it's associated with, but with a _T at the end. For my Confident talking sprite, that would be WrightConfident_T.gif.
II. Adding Characters to your Case
1. In the editing screen for your project, go to Database->Characters.
2. In the Character Name box, enter the character's name (like Phoenix Wright, for example)
3. In the Filename box, enter the folder's name that all the character's GIFs are in (like Wright for Phoenix Wright, for example.)
4. In the Display Name/Dialog Name box (I forget exactly what it's called), enter the name you want to appear whenever the character is talking in your case (I'd use Phoenix for Phoenix Wright, for example.)
5. Optionally, you may set the character's age, whether he/she is a prosecutor, DA, or NPC/Witness, their gender, and a little profile information. Currently this has no use, unless I'm missing something.
6. Remember to hit the Create button. Your character is now ready for use!
7. To make the character appear on screen, go into an action list, click a new line, hit character appearance, choose the character you want to appear and the pose they should take. You can also enable/disable lip-syncing (like if Phoenix is thinking, you could turn this off). Additionally, after you make at least one Character Appearance line, you can set it up so the character fades in, fades out, or becomes instantly visible/invisible.

I also (grudgingly) deleted the backgrounds that I downloaded from Court-Records, so now Windows Explorer is working ay-okay, but now the only backgrounds I have are the ones of the courtroom. Should I try downloading the CR backgrounds again or is there another place that I can download them from? I want my backgrounds back!

1. So when I start it up, I made a "Projects" file and it started to work because it asked for it. That file is currently empty, but allows the program to work. Am I right in doing that?
2. When I "Make ma game, you dawg", it loads to 100% and starts pulling up a black screen for a second then it dissapears, then repeats that. What. The. Crap.
3. Action Lists don't work. I double, triple, quadruple click on the lines and nothing happens, and it doesn't load when I finally manage to get it working.
4. When I try to add characters, nothing comes up in the box thing that asks who do I want to appear.
5. Whats the deal with the evidence? I make the name and discriptions and everything, then it asks for a file or some crap... What's with that?

Where, exactly, do I put the "Character" folder? In the file that has the .exe's name, or where? And I tried that, but when I try to make characters appear, I click the arrow where it asks what character do I want to appear, it doesn't have anything 0.0

Well, I know THAT, but I need to make the characters appear. I click "Characters" and I try to make it appear, and it says Phoenix Wright, and it has x-(insert animation here), but when I click it, it doesn't do anything.
And I can't get Manfred to do that either

I'll see what the fades and stuff will do for me later, but right now I need to focus on the big stuff other than that to see if I can get SOMETHING working.
What I need is to learn how to add backgrounds and scenery. I need to know evidence and sound too. I really wish I wasn't so new to this

That's a shame, but still, I'm thankful we have this to work with, at least.
On that note, I hate to repeat a question, but I was wondering if someone could help me out with Investigation.
I checked all the tutorials from the first post of this thread, and I also checked the Wiki that is still up, but I couldn't find any information about Investigations.
At the moment, I can add the script "startinvestigation(1)" but I'm not sure where to go from there (like, how to Talk, Move, etc)

That's what I have done so far, btw.
In reading through DDRKhat's scripts, I can see that my main problem is that I don't understand Conditions all that well.

In rebuttal to the above question: Use a case maker that is 100% effective. There's too much missing from the case maker for it to be passed as an acceptable tool. That doesn't mean don't use it, but it would seem like a lost cause when you realize what you can and can't do. I need the source or I'm going to make my own case maker from scratch. I've done way too much with a Zelda clone and too many global variables to let a deadend programmer go emo and die off because he's sick of working on his creation. We've all been there and we know how to pass the torch.
