Just moments ago, my mother returned from a business trip in Hong Kong. She brought back this little number:

Basically it allows me to play DS roms on my DS. Best thing ever.

I've got a 1 GB mini SD in there right now....DS Roms average around 30 MB a pop, as far as I know...

So for this specific mini SD, around 33. I can get my hands on more, luckily, so potentially I'll never have to buy a DS game again.

Be careful with localization if you so choose to go this route. There may be some games you find that you won't be able to understand at all. As long as you stick to the (U) identifier, you should be good.

Glad some people appreciate them.

As long as I can dump ROMs, I won't have to worry about the inevitable data failure associated with gamepak batteries. God those suck.

I don't want to see an OS on a flash card other than CD Shell with an El Torito stack or WinPE. Vista is a virus.

You should know then that the R4 was been out for a while now. Almost everyone and their grandmothers are using them. ;)

If it wasn't for the R4 I would have never played most of my favorite games at the moment. I love that thing, it seems you do too.

Possibly n00b question: What's the difference between the G8 and the R4? :eh?: (besides the obvious that it's "better") I'm asking cuz I'm wondering if I should upgrade from my M3..
Re: R4 Revolution for DSTopic%20Title

What M3? There's at least three different types.

I combine my R4 with a Slot-2 Supercard Lite. Mostly because the Slot-2 is faster with Moonshell, while R4 works best with newer games because of its clean dump feature (plus it works better with SCUMMVM and I've been playing Day of the Tentacle like an idiot). And a Slot-1 consumes less with Wi-Fi heavy games (like my Yu-Gi-Oh WC08)

So awesome you're using a flashcart that exists only in your fertile imagination, eh?

If it's an M3 Simply, you do realize the greatest joke in the universe is that it and R4 are the same flashcarts from the same factory but sent to two different publishers who install slightly different software.

You can patch one or the other to work with the software of one or the other. There's no difference.

Since he isn't buying the games, there's no worry right? Just delete and re-download...

Anyway, there's some homebrew you could try out. SCUMMVM's great if you want to play some of the good old LucasArts point-and-click adventure games. The DS can handle up to Sam and Max, but not Full Throttle and beyond. DOOM DS is also great (although since Orc and Elves, I'm surprised there hasn't been some re-release compilation of Doom for DS).

This is the place I go for the latest DS homebrew: Quickjump

The latest R4 patches have auto-DLDI patching, so homebrew should be a lot easier to install. But I don't trust it sometimes; I still prefer manually patching myself.

You use a homebrew program called Moonshell for that.

The Moonshell for all Slot-1 carts is notoriously slower than Slot-2 ones. I never use my R4 for watching movies, but here's where you can find movies/series formatted as .dpg to watch DPG Video

That site also has the BatchDPG utility to make your own .dpg videos. I created the .dpg collection for YGOTAS (it's somewhere in the back).

R4 is fantastic. I've bought about 30 DS games over the past 2 years, and I finally copped an R4DS in August. It actually arrived on my birthday as I was watching TV. I already placed the order and I knew it was coming through, but golly, I was filled with glee.

I haven't bought any DS games since, but mind you, I fully intend to pay for the big ones like Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, Apollo Justice, and so on. I'm able to have an extra copy of anything on my R4DS, so as to play any of my friends online just by lending them it. I made a little bit of store credit on some games that I no longer need to officially own, so in a way I kinda made money off of the thing (not really but. >>).

So f'sho, you don't have to go completely into pirate mode, but you'll wanna pick one of these up. It hooks you up, big time.

Dang it, Byakko. You ruined the joke. I knew it was a fake and was waiting for many to complain they couldn't find it.

My apologies. I hit 8 instead of 6

The G6 is the less popular, but large (in space) flashcat.

I love my R4. I still buy games for collection purposes, but the R4 lets me play them all without having to carry all my games with me at once (my tetris DS almost fell down a sewer grate once...).

Although it does kind of suck that my legitimate games aren't even being played most of the time, so I let my little sister borrow them whenever I visit my parents.

Lol yes I realized this when I borrowed the software download from a friend of mine who has a R4 card and the R4 wallpaper showed up on my screen xD.. yes I have a M3 Simply, so how is the G8 different from it? Does it do anything the M3 can't?

Only if you splurge for the 16GBit one, which would give 2GB space. But it can't run many homebrew without a ton of work (even with DLDI patching). It's Moonshell is also problematic.
Re: R4 Revolution for DSTopic%20Title

Once again, which G6? There's 3 or 4 different variations, most of them aren't Slot 1.
