I've seen a lot of homemeade magatamas, and I was wondering what would be the best way to make them. All of the ones I've seen on e-bay are way too small or aren't the correct color, etc.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, I made mine for my Maya costume out of sculpey. It was really simple!

All you do is roll it out into a fat snake-like form and curve it so looks like a 9. :D

It should look something like this... http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1039566/ (sorry for my crappy photo D:)

That looks pretty cool, Kiero. I would think it should be going down, not sideways at the bottom, maybe?

But I'm not such an expert with stuff like this...

Originally I thought it was a nine shape from memory, but it should be more like a fat 9 if that makes any sense. That's was the end is more sideways. I'm going to make a more accurate one when I cosplay Mia. :D

*nods*

The shapes more like a flipped 6, from what I see... It does look like a nine though.

What did you use to make the necklace? A certain type of clay?

You probably don't want to use clay since it's fairly heavy and will weigh down the necklace. I had to pull mine far off to the side so it wasn't collapsing on itself and the only heavy thing on mine was the Sculpey magatama. For the "beads," I actually used painted ping pong balls (for every single sphere-thing, hair spheres included). Of course, they looked like crap from up close, so you may want to try something else or do a better job painting than me.

I've made a few (four, I think? Two Phoenix ones, a Maya one, and a Pearl one, I believe) out of Sculpey :B Here's an example of one I did for my sister: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h227/ ... pearls.jpg (Unfortunately I don't have a better, closer picture D: )

They really aren't very difficult to hand-sculpt, if you're good with your hands or at least know someone else who is. 8B

Ah thank you! I ended up getting some fimo at the craft store when I was looking for patterns. I'm going to try to make it soon. Thank you all again! (Now lets hope I remember how to sculpt...)

I made mine using Super Sculpey. I wasn't planning to wear it, as it was supposed to be the Psyche-Lock Magatama. I made mine by first rolling the Sculpey into a ball, then flattening it. Then I took one side and began to make it pointed and curved. Then I took a toothpick and put a hole in the middle and made the hole big enough. Personally I think my Magatama is the wrong colour, but the shape is pretty good. Here's a picture of my Magatama.

Clay and laces.

Sculpy is what she used I beleive, but I myself am using clay. :3
It should work awfully well!

Some of the magatamas on Ebay are big enough. I got this opal glass one there. It measures 1 3/8" tall:

It's white until you hold it up to the light, then it glows orange (this photo doesn't do it justice):

And i got this leather cord necklace for it:

Don't expect to see me actually wearing it in public though :meekins:

Now let's see who has psyche locks out there :karma:
:takethat:

If anyone still wants advice >.>
Sculpey is very awesome! xD

My friend and I made our little PW props out of it, yay!

Spoiler: Magatama x 2, Badge x 2, Psycholock!
Image

Sorry for the really blurry picture xD

The better attorney's badge is about the size of a nickel, for size reference.

I love the psyche lock, too...I want to wear it but it's pretty hefty. It'd be like a freaky piece of bling.

(Also we made Halo energy swords and companion cubes out of it xD; )

I don't have any pictures of them yet, but when I make magatamas, I use Model Magic. It's actually not bad, IMO.
