I completed this in four days and here are my thoughts:

Pros:
Amazing Map Editor (Anything I wanted to do in the previous editors I can do now)
Excellent Gameplay
Zoom-In adds a nice touch
I no longer hate Fog of War because any terrain you pass in a day will be revealed for the rest of the day

Cons:
No Hard Campaign
Some characters should be usable COs (The Beast, Davis etc.)
Let us dye the world in despair, and bring a dismal end to this fairy tale.

If you do that, he'll start to build a large amount of anti-air and fighters so bad idea there. He usually focuses on one battle, either the land or air depending on the situation.

Bomber, megatank and interceptor rush then. That's how I did it in 16 days or so.

But then again, that might work but that would require almost a load of wasted days to build up that kind of force... :meekins:

Your disagreement forced me to take out my game, take a look at the map, and remind myself of what I did to beat it XD

I think I adopted a slow, creeping advance as my general battle plan. Tanks at the front backed up by artillery and rockets, moving in one space at a time as my rockets forced the enemy forces to either retreat or be fired upon. Of course always keeping some type of anti-air units handy (whether that's anti-air, missiles, or fighters [interceptors in Europe] depends on your preference). As a result my speed probably suffered. I finished it in 28 days and settled for a 289 A-rank.

You could try to hold the middle ground and flank the enemy around the top or bottom of the map. I remember that that was a part of my strategy, too: force the enemy to fight on two fronts (I personally started a second front at the bottom of the map). It may weaken one front enough so that your army group there can push forwards.

You know, except for the online, I definitely liked the old AWs better. We've already got a dark and serious tactical game, Fire Emblem - I miss the charm and gaily infantry-shooting COs of the old versions quite a bit.

I'm just about almost done with this game, and while it was good...it was missing the extra something that the original AW and DS versions had. This overhaul of the franchise was good for rebalancing units/COs, but it seems like they forgot to put something back...I can't really place what's missing, but it's a little extra "umph" that AW12DS had. Campaign seemed a bit easier than AWDS (and that one was pretty easy, minus like 1-2 missions), new COs were okay...and the new COP system was neat. Miss the older music though...this game's ones aren't all that catchy/memorable.

I'm stuck on The Great Owl (Mission 22). Penny keeps destroying all my units. :chinami:

Who knew Bombers and Anti-Airs could be dangerous.

I do like the fact the Editor is 10 times better since you can resize maps and save 50 maps. The units are way more balance and Sea maps are a lot more fun. Fog of War is better too.

I just miss the old COs, the old themes and the Advance Wars charm.

I really disliked the removal of War Room.

I've put playing this game on hold because I'm playing through the PW games in preparation for Apollo Justice, which will then take up my gaming time, but I'll get back to this (I'm on mission 22 I think?) once I finish through that.

I definitely suggest playing the previous games first. Advance Wars (the original) definitely had the best tutorial. I was pretty disappointed by Days of Ruin's tutorial personally. Oh, and fun fact: If you have Advance Wars 1 or 2 in the GBA slot of the DS while playing Advance Wars: Dual Strike, you can buy some hidden maps and wallpaper!

Man, I remember playing through Advanced Campaign in the first game...seriously, the ONLY thing that kept me from thinking the levels were unbeatable was thinking "Okay, other people have beaten these levels. That means they ARE actually beatable." It was still awesome though. I did need a step-by-step walkthrough for "Kanbei's Error?" which was turned from a fairly easy level in normal campaign to probably the hardest level, except for maybe "Rivals!", in Advanced Campaign. I never played Rivals! in Advanced Campaign, so I don't know, but I heard it was the toughest one. Hrm, I think I'll try to play through Advanced Campaign again...

But yeah, if you want to get into the series, I think Advance Wars (the first one) is the best place to start.

I prefer the new CO system, the music is lovely but the tone really depresses me. People are dead and keep dying and while it is refreshing to see that in a Nintendo game, its just really sad at the same time.

But because this has 50 slots for custom maps, Wi-Fi, I pushes it to be equal to AWDS/2.

Still I miss using Neil.

No offence, I bought it on the day of release and haven't played much since I've been too busy. I tried the Wi-Fi tonight, finally, and I can't seem to get the voice chat to work.

Do you have to friend someone first, or something? - And for that matter, is the voice chat audible half the time?

I believe you have to friend someone first. I haven't used it though so I don't know much else about it. And my DS isn't playing nice with my Wi-Fi so I can't test it either. :sadshoe:

For the Great Owl, all I can say is captureas many of Penny's cities as you can, and since Penny doesn't seem to care about the Great Owl's bombs, position some units AROUND the explosion area to lure her in it. Then, once you have a lot of cities, alternate between Megatanks, Bombers and sometimes fighters/interceptors. Then just rush her. I won by routing.

Waylon's Last Flight (or whatever it's called) did it for me, but I eventually beat it.

I'm surprised how many people on this board play AW. XD

I'll help with any questions. :3

I swear! I couldn't beat The Great Owl by convential means so I just spammed (literally, spammed) the following units in order, hoping to gain superiority through sheer numbers:

-Mechs
-Infantry
-Anti-Tanks
-Tanks

I managed a C Rank, BUT AT LEAST I BEAT IT WITHOUT HELP FROM A GUIDE! :D

STUPID POINTLESS NAME CHANGES ARE ANNOYING.

Can anyone get me a list of the English/American names? So I don't make mistakes?

BTW, Counter-Attack/Waylon Flies Again (WTF?) is just hard >< I'm not good enough to finish it - so I've been messing around on Wi-Fi. I need help with Waylon Flies Again, and I'm up for a Wi-Fi match if anyone wants it.

I'm bringing this topic back from the dead to see if anyone plays, because I'm interested in playing games on wi-fi. So if you want to play here's my friend code. 305067-084238. I won't be available tonight but if there are any takers, I think Friday or Saturday would be a good chance to play a game.

As for the differences in localization, it's because they did both at the same time and combined the scripted right before release (you can play in JP/EU through cheats o_0). NoA seemed to take more liberties in translation, while it seems that NoE translated directly more. I like most of NoA's changes, actually, but there are some names (specifically the COP names >_>) that I prefer...
