Dominic accepted the note, grateful that he was one step closer to getting the truth from Oldbag. "Thank you for that, Mr Smith," Dominic said. "I'll be back if I need anything else."

Back in the Gatewater Hotel...

Dominic walked up to Mr Ramos, who had somehow managed to keep Oldbag at bay the whole time. Dominic handed the note to his boss. "Here you go sir, this should do the trick."

Micheal Gray looked down at the notepad he was writing on somewhat disconcerted. The bellboy himself didn't seem to have actually witnessed much himself, after much prodding and Gray yelling at the bellboy, they had managed to get the bellboy to tell a less exaggerated story of what had taken place, as they could easily see how many contradictions stood in his current story.

'So, as I understand it, you were with the main witness, a Ms. Jennifer Corrida as she entered the crime scene, and you DIDN'T see anything except a glimpse of the scene, correct? As you had left by the time she entered and went to the elevator so as to give her time with her friend?'

The bellboy stammered for a while, trying to think of a way to make himself come off as a slightly more important witness. 'Well...I mean, sir. I did happen to catch a glimpse of someone in the room as I left! I mean, now that I think about it, It could've been the murder happening! And I...'

Gray waved his hand, silencing the bellboy as usual. 'I care not what you really saw, now, to avoid the defence breaking through your testimony we're going to have a somewhat less exaggerated series of events than what you originally told us, and a somewhat more incriminating series of events than what you just told us. This is what I propose...Now this is important, so listen.'

The bellboy gulped, and nodded his head.

'We shall keep the majority of your real story intact. After Jeniffer entered the room, you glanced over to see her enter, but...'

Gray scribbled something down on his notepad.

'You didn't simply 'glimpse' the crime scene, you heard a noise, came back and peeked through the ajar door, and witnessed the whole event that transpired in there and that you witnessed the defendant murder the victim, before leaving in fear and heading for the elevator, Have you got that?'

The bellboy gulped and looked at Micheal, 'You want...Want me to lie on the stand, sir?'

'Exactly, you didn't seem to mind lying to me and Ms. Helms a few moments ago to try and sound somewhat more instrumental in the case, so you should have no problems with this.'

The bellboy nodded slowly, still look disconcerted at what Micheal was saying. As the bellboy nodded, Micheal handed him a piece of paper, which had a long series of notes written down on it.

'This is what your story is going to be, learn it, and stick to it, make sure to not let the defence catch you contradicting youself, Got it?'

The bellboy sighed and nodded again. Micheal stood up, and offered Rose his hand to help her up. As he begun to leave the room, he turned around and looked at the bellboy. 'Don't lose your cool in court, it's exactly what will break us if you do.'

Micheal left the room, a cocky smirk spreading across his face.

"Oh, thanks Dominic", Ivan said to Mr. Roxburghe. He approached him and whispered: "It wasn't easy to keep this old lady here, you know?".

"I HEARD THAT, YOU WHIPPERSNAPER!", the security lady exploded. "HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT!"

"No, no, no, Mrs. Oldbag. It's not what you think! What I said is that we haven't got a lot of time, you know? So we must hurry with this. That's what I said!"

"Hmm... I'll let this one pass, you... lawyer... whippersnaper!"

Hasn't she got another insult... but thinking about it, I better not investigate THAT especific thing... I may come up with a surprise... "Thank you, Mrs. Oldbag. Now, we were asking you to tell us your version of the crime..."

"No I wasn't! I said I won't tell you anything! All I have to say I'll say it in court! But there is one thing that you may know:"

"What?"

"That guy killed him! That Smith guy killed my Johnnie-Poo!"

Oh my god, Johnie-Poo!?! I'm sorry for the man who's got to cross-examine... I said nothing... "But how do you know it?"

"I saw him with the gun on his hands! Tell me if that isn't proof enough!"

Inded, the gun HAD Mr. Smith's fingerprints... along with Mr. Doe's... "So you have told us something. Now, can you tell us the rest? Please?"

"What part of I WON'T, WHIPPERSNAPER don't you get! I-WON'T-TALK!!!.... whippersnaper!"

Ok, time to show this oldbag something to make her talk. "And what about if we give you this photograph...", Ivan said, pulling out the copy that Mr. Roxburghe had given him. "It was Mr. Doe's last one, have we told you?"

"You have already showed me that! And you didn't show me proof that you didnt's steal this from the killer, or that he didn't give it to you!"

"Oh, haven't we? Well, here it is...", Ivan took off the note that Mr. Roxburghe had brought along with the photograph. "Let me read it for you: "Dear Mrs. Oldbag, I give this person permission to give you this photograph as a signal of my client, the late Mr. John Doe's generosity. Please ((forgot the word)) it with all of your heart like I have for this 18 years..." Signed, Mr. Jonothan Smith... the presumed 'killer'..."

The security lady couldn't believe what she had heard. "Is-Is that true?"

"You may read it yourself...". Ivan gave Mrs. Oldbag the note. "And here, have the photograph..."

[Jonothan's note given to Mrs. Oldbag]

Mrs. Oldbag read the note once and again, and again, and again. Her eyes were filled with tears. "Oh, poor Johnnie-Poo! He was too young to die!"

"Now, what do you think about Mr. Smith?"

Oldbag looked at Ivan and Dominic. "Ok... I'll talk."

Oh, yeah! We did it! Finally we'll hear this oldbag... I mean Mrs. Oldbag's version of the facts. "Thank you, Mrs. Oldbag. Please, start.". Ivan took out a notepad and a pencil. He was prepared to copy what the security lady was to say.

As Rose left the room with Micheal, she felt a little uneasy. She hadn't liked the bellboy much, and knew for a fact that his testimony wouldn't have been much use in court, but did Mr.Gray really need to...She shook her head slightly, thinking it over. Well...he had to know what he was doing, right? After all, it was a prosecutor's job to get a 'guilty' verdict to put food on the table. And from what she learned back in law School, Micheal Gray had studied under Miles Edgeworth, one of the greatest prosecutors of all time.

So why did she feel so uneasy?

" uhm, Mr Gray? " she asked as the prosecuting duo left the room with the shaken bellboy, "Was that, uhm...Do you do that a lot?" She didn't want to take it too far and ask if what the prosecutor did was legal. She shuddered slightly, not knowing what he might have done to her if she had asked him that.

'I do that with all my witnesses...And before you ask, It's not a question of whether or not it is legal, it is not our job to obey the law, it's our job to deliver it unto others. We must rise above the law.' Micheal said coldly, before beginning to walk off. He sensed that she was walking slowly, clearly still concerned about what had just transpired, 'Listen, do not worry yourself about that, My head will be the one on the line should anyone discover what happened, my methods shouldn't concern you.'

"I was walking through the hallway of the third floor, when I came across an open door with a scratch, like if somebody had broken into. I looked inside and saw it: my poor Johnnie-Poo sitting in a chair, dead! And that Smith guy was hiding some papers, in a hurry. But what made me tackle him was what he was holding on his right hand: a pistol! So, how I said, I tackled him, and, before I could call the police, they came in a rush and found me with Smith."

Ivan finished scribbling Ms. Oldbag's testimony. "First: How do you know that Mr. Smith was hiding the papers? And why 'in a hurry'?"

"Because he is the killer!", Oldbag said, exploding. It looked like the photo hadn't changed her opinion of Jonothan, but at least she had spoken. "He was trying to hide the evidence that proved him being the murderer!"

"But... if he was the murderer, why would he hide 'papers'? He would hide the pistol maybe, and the body, don't you think?."

"Hmm... well... but he was hiding something! He was hiding some documents very quickly in a suitcase! That is what I saw!"

"Ok. Second: Why do you think the police came if you didn't call them?"

"Maybe someone else called them, I don't know!"

"Ok, thank you Mrs. Oldbag. We'll come back to you if we need to. We should be leaving now, don't you think so, Dominic?", Ivan said to his assistant, with a "Yes we do" look on his face, trying to get the heck out of there.

The woman took a second to think about this. Concerning what Micheal had said about her profession, he spoke the truth. However, to rise above the law? She didn't think so. It was almost as if the high and mighty prosecuotr so....contradicting himself. or, at least it so it seemed to her, anyway. It was almost enough to make the prosecution aide giggle, but she chose not to, letting out a single couch instead, covering her mouth as she did so.

Finally, she nodded happily and picked up her pace, masking her insecurities about what just happened like a murderer and his crime scene. 'Whatever you say, Dr.gray!" she chirped with an overall tone of delight in her voice. She decided to concern herself with the other evidence pieces she and Mr.Gray had to find before the defense, and the final trail outcome. "So...Do you thin kthe bellboy will come through for us?" she asked, flashing on the absent-minded man. He seemed bvery timid to her, and didn't know if he'd completely follow the orders of Micheal Gray.

Okay, Trial Master here again! Now that both Team Ramos and Team Gray have completed their roles, I am going to change things up a little bit! As soon as nintendofreakgcn and aroking both post, I will take over both Wendy Oldbag and the Bellboy.

WITNESS SWAP

As the defense needs to speak with the witness as well as the prosecution needing to speak with the defensant, we're going to swap witnesses, so to speak.

Team Ramos may now talk to the Bellboy, but it seems Ms. Oldbag disappeared somewhere...

Team Gray may now interrogate the defendant, but it seems the defense is talking to the Bellboy, so it may not be smart to talk with him anymore...

The main witness, Ms. Jennifer Corrida, still seems to be unreachable at this time.

Also, if the defense and prosecution wish, they may investigate the crime scene, which happens to be the exact same hotel room where Matt Engarde stayed in almost eight years ago.

EVIDENCE TO FIND THAT WAS MISSED:
*These pieces of evidence cannot be obtained until speaking with Jennifer Corrida later on.

-Surveillance Video - A video found in the crime scene. Shows a random man doing mundane, ordinary things.

-Rough Draft - A series of papers that seems to form the rough draft of a biography of Shelly de Killer written by Hakuro de Killer.

-Family Picture - Depicts Jeniffer Corrida with her father and mother. Juan Corrida shown next to Jeniffer Corrida. Found in witness's hotel room.*

-ME-21 Case File - The case in which Juan Corrida had been killed by Shelly de Killer, who was hired by Matt Engarde.*

Dominic breathed a sigh of relief, glad that they wouldn't have to deal with Oldbag until tomorrow. He stroked his chin as he pondered what had really happened that night. "Mr Ramos," Dominic said to his boss, "Oldbag doesn't strike me as the sort to lie about something so specific. I'm convinced Mr Smith was hiding something, something important, but it doesn't seem to be in the Court Record. This leaves two possibilities. Either someone's hidden the evidence, or it's at the crime scene. Either way, it couldn't hurt to look. Heck, we might even run into the detective there."

Dominic tapped his pen against his notepad as he looked through the notes he'd made of Oldbag's testimony. "Then there's that brilliant deduction you made, sir - who called the police? It obviously wasn't Oldbag. Either it was another witness who came in and saw the scene without attracting attention, or the call was a setup, carefully timed by the real killer to get Mr Smith caught."

Dominic glanced at the front desk. The bellboy hadn't returned yet, but he couldn't stay away much longer. "I think that bellboy might be able to tell us something. Whether it's something we want to hear is another matter. The choice is yours, sir."

Micheal, while still walking, continued to talk to the Rose. 'He'll probably crack under cross-examination I'm sure, but it's better to have him lie for us and have the potential to be useful, than give a non-incriminating testimony.' Micheal turned a corner, and hit the button for the elevator. 'Since Ms. Corrida still has yet to arrive, I'd like for you to go have a look around the crime scene while I head off to talk to the defendant. If Corrida does arrive while I'm out, give me a call, and begin the interview yourself, alright?'

"Yes, we should speak to him.", Ivan answered to Mr. Roxburghe's question. "And we could take a look at the crime scene too, don't you think? Which one we should do first: talking to the bellboy or examining the crime scene? I'll let you choose that." Ivan waited for Mr. Roxburghe's answer. Maybe the Prosecuting team had already taken all the important evidence, so it would be better to hurry up.

"Yeah, let's go.". After saying that, Ivan remembered where the crime scene was, and off they went.

Gatewater Hotel, Third Floor, Doe and Smith's room

Ivan looked at the crime scene. It was exactly like the photo described, just the body was missing. "Let's look around".

They looked everywhere, hoping the Prosecuting Team hadn't got all the important evidence. "Mr. Roxburghe, come! Look at this!". Ivan had found something. They were some papers. He read them, and said: "It's a biography. Shelly de Killer's biography. And written by... Hakuro de Killer?". Ivan looked at Mr. Roxburghe. "Do you know this Hakuro de Killer guy?"

"Hmm," Dominic whispered as he stroked his chin. "Well, I certainly don't know him personally, but chances are he bears some relation to Shelley de Killer. His successor, perhaps? Such an assassin would most likely need to be trained by the master, and it would be logical to write Shelley de Killer's biography if he was about to retire." Dominic frowned as he realised another option. "Or about to get killed, for that matter."

Dominic flipped through the court record, checking to see if he was missing anything. "Still, it's the only stack of papers that we've found here, and nothing was officially found before, so I'd wager that this is what Mr Smith was hiding. We could hand this over to the police and get them to do a fingerprint test to make sure, but it might be better to keep this out of the prosecution's hands." Dominic looked up at Mr Ramos, barely believing that either of them had missed this point. "Come to think about it, sir, unless these papers were planted by someone else, then there are really only two people this 'Hakuro de Killer' could be - Mr Doe or our own client."

Dominic looked back down at the court record. His jaw dropped ever so slightly. "Then there's the slight fact that it seems that Hakuro de Killer's calling card is sitting right here in the court record." He grinned sheepishly and shrugged his shoulders. "Yes, sir, it would seem that the evidence is starting to press us towards this being either the work of an assassin or the death of one... or both."

Rose nodded, her eyes bright. "You mean it, Mr.Gray?" she asked happily, filled with excitement at the chance of proving herself. Seeing that the prosecutor wasn't joking, she could have started to do a little dance, cheering. Instead, she stated "You can count on me, Mr.Gray! Good luck with the defendant!" She waited with him until the elevator came up with a sharp ding!, it's doors opening as the silver doors waiting like the mouth of a hungry monster.

"Anything else I need to know?" she asked him before the elevator doors shut tight.

'Yeah...If you find anything, don't tell anyone about it.' said Micheal sharply as the elevator doors began to shut in front of him, before the elevator continued downstairs.

"Great deduction, Mr. Roxburghe. I was thinking about Hakuro de Killer being Mr. Doe or our client, but we need to talk to the detective first ((BTW, the detective has been absent since the case started, we should look for another one, or tell the detective to come sometime)), maybe he could examine the fingerprints. That was a great idea too, Mr. Roxburghe.", Ivan congratulated him. "Wait a minute...". Ivan had spotted something else on a table. It was like a cassette. "What is that?"

Ivan approached the item. It was a video. Maybe survelliance, but they had to watch it to know. "Mr. Roxburghe,", Ivan asked his assistant. "Where can we play this? I have the feeling it may be important."

Dominic eyed the video. It didn't look distinctive to him in any way, but he wasn't an expert on these matters. "Well, it should work on any VCR, sir. I could take it back to the office and give it a whirl, but I'm not sure what we'd really be looking for. Regardless, if you're willing to be a bit underhanded, I wouldn't show this to anyone until we know what it contains."

"No, I didn't mean I don't know where to play it, just that I don't know if there is anything that can help us with that here... like a VCR, yeah...", Ivan answered Mr. Roxburghe's question. "Maybe we could take it to the office, yeah. Noone would notice if we go and check it out a bit, would they? Maybe we should watch it before showing it also, yeah. So, let's head out to the office for a while, it won't take long: We go, we watch the tape and we come back. Maybe when we come back the detective will already be here." Ivan said to his aide, preparing to leave. ((Sorry for the over-use of the word 'yeah', but I... don't know what to say... Maybe a kind of writer's block, yeah... Crap...))

In the... umm... Ramos & Co. Law Offices? ((is it Ok to put that name? I can't come up with another one...))

Ivan and Dominic entered Ivan's office. He turned the TV on, he plugged the VCR in and took the tape they found off his backpack. He insterted it on the VCR and he pressed the 'Play' button on it. "Let's see what the tape contains...", Ivan told to Mr. Roxburghe. The video started.

The monitor showed a man. He was doing normal, ordinary things. It was sure a survelliance tape. When the recording stopped, he took the tape off and put it back into the backpack. "Nothing here. Looks like this doesn't follow any lead. Let's get back to the Gatewater Hotel and talk to the detective... if he DID go...

[Survelliance Tape added to the Court Record] ((I mean the defense's, the same with the Rough Draft))

Ema figured there was no way the defense would pass up the opportunity to observe the crime scene, so she followed the two back to the office. She thought to herself, "These two seriously don't know the first rule of evidence law. All evidence must be insepected be police." She was about to enter when she noticed the defense attorney and his aide slip out. "I believe I heard you wanted to see me?" Ema really didn't want to betray the prosecution, but hey, it gives her a chance for more scientific things.

Ivan stared at the lady. "So, you are... the new detective in the case? Oh! Nice to meet you! My name is Ivan Ramos, and I'm the defense attorney in charge of this case, and he is my aide, Mr. Dominic Roxburghe." Ivan looked at the detective's face. It was like 'I know what you did'. "Er.. If you came because of us taking that evidence from the crime, um... we... we were going to ask Mr. Hartnet, the detective who quit this case, if we could take it, but... um... he wasn't there... So, first of all: what's your name?", Ivan said, nervous. They were about to get caught, he knew it. But he tried to look calm and greeted the detective.

"My name's Ema, Ema Skye." the detective just looked at his face and knew what he was thinking. "You're not in trouble Mr. Ramos, but you need to give me the evidence, so that it can be approved first." She knew the prosecution was going to use the "that's-illegal-evidence" thing, and she DOES believe in fair trials. She had an idea. "I know, how about we test these items for fingerprints? I'm sure we'll get something out of it."

"Oh, thank you Detective Skye. Sorry, but we thought the video would have been decisive evidence. But it would have been too easy, I guess...", Ivan replied to Detective Skye's introduction. "Oh, here you are. Can we search for fingerprints also, please? Were can we do that, is there a kind of lab around here or somthing like that?". Ivan gave the draft and the videotape to the Detective. "Just from the papers, the tape could have been touched by a lot of people. But maybe, despite the fact that we couldn't recover the item the author used to write it, it's sure he touched it sometime, so this would reveal Hakuro de Killer's identity."

"I have a better idea, since we have the evidence, I could give you the results right away." She took out the aluminum powder. " Just give me a sec." After a few moments, the chalky white fingerprints were visible. " Now then, according to the fingerprint profiles, these belong to... Huh?" She looked again. "It's your client's fingerprints, Mr. Ramos."

Dominic sighed, but he wasn't sure whether it was out of relief or frustration. "Well, you know what that means, Mr Ramos. The question is, what do we do? Personally, I think we need to have another talk with our client, unless you can think of something else that needs doing."

Ivan knew it. Who else could have written that thing but Mr. Smith, having this being on the room where the victim and their client had stood? "Wait, Dominic. I have some questions for the detective...", Ivan said to Mr. Roxburghe. "And no need to sigh of frustation (if it was for frustation), though this piece of evidence can be the key to Mr. Smith's secrets.

"Now, Detective Skye,", Ivan adressed the Detective, who was holding Shelly de Killer's 'biography' and the videotape. "I need to ask you this.", Ivan took out a pair of cards from his backpack. They were Shelly de Killer and Hakuro de Killer's calling cards. "First, Shelly de Killer's: What was this doing in the crime scene? Does it have any relation to the victim or the defendant?"

The sight of those cards rang some bells. "I believe there was a case about that, I think that was a long time ago though. Some people thought John Doe was Shelly de Killer, but there was no decesive evidence against him." She looked at the other card. "That one I don't know about..." She paused and then said, "If you want to know about that "incident" then I suggest you talk with Ms. Corrida, the key witness. So just give this to her and I think she'll talk to you."

[Letter of Introduction added to the Court Record]

"I hope to have more scientific investigations with you, Mr. Ramos."

She took her leave of the defense and walked back to the hotel where more clues await.

Trial master here again! Team Ramos has completed their investigation so far. Seeing as Team Grey has yet to talk to the defendant and the fact that it won't matter in this portion of the trial, I don't see why we can't start the trial at long last.

Now, this topic will remain open for the following characters:

Ema Skye
Michael Grey
Rose Helms
Hakuro de Killer

For the remaining characters, your role in Day 1 Investigation has ended.

Please wait while the courtroom is prepared for the trial...

Micheal walked out of the elevator, before proceeding to get into his over-priced car at the front of the hotel that was incorrectly parked. Micheal had no intention to talk to the defendant, he couldn't sort out indiscrepancies in the defendant's testimony before the trial. Doing that would cause the defendant's testimony to seem solid, he had to make sure that he'd tear him apart on the stand in front of the judge to make him seem more unreliable. He didn't tell Rose this, of course, as he was sure she'd have some sort of moral objection. He just prayed she would show up at the trial with some helpful evidence.
