Hello everyone, Violet here.
I'm gong to my first anime convention this year, and I want to make it Phoenix Wright, a game to remember!
I'm probably going as Iris, since I don't' see a lot of cosplay's for her, and also because it seems complicated, yet not complicated. I really need some help with the costume though, because of course, I have a budget, but I still want to make this professional. Here is my think-about-it list.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Magatama - I was thinking about buying a real one, but they are expensive. I've seen a lot of them on EBAY... But then again, I could make one out of clay, and add glass...

Necklace Beads - I'm just going to buy some large beads...

Iris' Hood - I have no idea how I would make that, maybe take some cloth and buy some tassels... and a large gem...

Deep Purple Robe - Any ideas for that one? I might use a geisha pattern...

Pink Robe - I think I might just go out and get a pink dress...

Red Ribbon - Just some cloth, and I'll find a large red ribbon, teehee...

Sandals - ... I think I have sandals.

White Gloves - I can just buy some white gloves, and cut the fingers off and just leave a triangle piece for the hand...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that is what I am planning.
I need any advice to any patterns or sites that might have information, or any other ideas, because I really want to make my first Anime Convention, the best! I even convinced a friend, if my costume is good enough, to go as Hobo Dobo! So if any one has any ideas or suggestion, please tell, I really need them o.o;

~Violet

((P.S. I might be a little early, but knowing myself and my life style, I'll need all the time I can get :P))

Magatama are super-easy to make with sculpey clay, and they look really nice if you put a few coats of glossy varnish on them. :B

Wait....

You say you 'don't see a lot of' Iris cosplays.

Does this mean that you have actually seen one or two?

If so, linky plz. :edgy:

EDIT: I also think your cosplay would look better without a hood.

That pearl is the cutest thing ever.

I cosplayed Mia last year and I made my magatama out of Crayola Model Magic. It's like clay, but it air-dries super duper light and durable. For something like Iris's necklace it could be good for making the beads as well as the magatama (You might need to buy red and blue and mix them into purple, since it only comes in basic colors). The best part is it's cheap and you get quite a lot in one package.

And I second the idea of clear varnish. I need to do that to mine...

Yes!
Thank you so much for the reference!
I really needed that :P
And I don't really have the links, when I was looking for cosplays of her, it was a while ago, and I really didn't save any of them, because I was still deciding which character I wanted to be...
I really like the hood idea though, it's a part of the costume, and I don't think it will be THAT hard to make :P
<3
I might start collecting materials now,
heading to the stores in a few days...

Yeah, hoods aren't very hard. The best thing to do would be to look at patterns at the fabric store to see if there are any you can utilize.

Another great idea is to go to a thrift store. You'd be amazed what kind of useful things you can find. Just be sure to buy something made of a decent fabric. Fabric type is one of the most important things to consider... though really the number one rule is DON'T USE SATIN.

Looking forward to seeing it! Good Luck! And yes, you should make a Magatama out of clay, and then just paint it violet. You can also add transparent plastic film paper (don't know how you call it in the USA, in Argentina we call it like that)

If you're looking for a pattern for the robes, I suggest the Simplicity pattern #5839 (http://tinyurl.com/37g2fx) It'll give you the basic kimono pattern, and the sleeves should be easy enough to modify. :3

The hood itself should be easy enough to make, as for the details the most advice I can give would be to look for 'frog buttons' (http://tinyurl.com/38qrpz) and curtain tassels. o: Good luck!
