This thread is pretty self-explanatory, but...

When do you think we'll hear more details?
or
Take a stab at the release date.

My guess is that we'll hear details in some form on April 20th - when the Gyakuten meets Orchestra concert will be held. Also, GS5 will probably be released in 2010, with a gap of three years between it and 4; like the gap between 3 and 4... unless the development is sped up.

More likely Spring 2009 in Japan and Fall/Winter 2009 for the US, as a pessimistic estimate. They don't need to build a new game engine or redraw all the graphics this time round, just write the script and create any new graphics required. Rumour has it the script is already near-finished.

The gap between AA3 and AA4 was simply because even Capcom thought the series was done back then, but given the sudden international success they decided to kickstart the franchise.
Does we even do these things anymore?

Hmm, that's a possibility. I didn't think of it that way - of course, they didn't need to build a new engine for 4 either; they only needed to add in the Perceive system.

:godot: We may get it earlier than I thought!

They didn't need to, but I'm pretty sure they did.
The court and everything was revamped because it was the first official DS release.

In this sense, I can imagine a script, new sprites for the new characters and a few other additions will be required. Maybe they'll add something new to the Jurist System, but I can't imagine it taking more than a year or two, at most.

My stab at a release date is December 24th 2008. A true miracle.

I hope that we won't have to wait too long for it. I'd hate to have to wait a really long time *cries* Maybe I'll just start learning Japanese now so that I can import it. Haha. That wouldn't work very well seeing as I'd have to learn a lot...

Seeing as T&T isn't out yet, I'll pencil in a european release of GS5 about ten minutes before the end of the world. Or autumn 2010 (which ever comes first).

Just to let you know, based on the amount of time T&T is taking, I'm going for the former.

And, yes I am a 'the glass is half-empty type of person (just in case anyone's wondering).

Good luck finishing it.

Really, I don't think they'll wait 3 years. They would loose a lot of their fan-base as they grow older.

Silly Capcom.

True, T&T hasn't been released in European contries yet (And yes, Ausralia counts as Europe), but hey, there's always internet orders. I got my copy home the week after it was released in English in the States. Sure, they spell colour wrong and stuff like that, but I think it's rather easy to get over the small cultrual gap when none of my PW-playing friends has it yet. x3

But yes. They should release it soon before they lose a majority of their fanbase.

Ah, but you forget that between 3 and 4, they also made the remake for the US. That came out in the US and Japan in the fall of 2005. If you assume that they started making GS4 right after that, the development of GS4 was only about a year and a half (give or take?). I wouldn't be surprised if we saw GS5 as early as Q4 2008. At least, in Japan.

Here's a little schedule of how it went down for GS4:

E3, 2006: Apollo is announced as the new character for GS4. And that was about it.

August 2006: Famitsu starts reporting tidbits about the characters, including Kristoph Gavin and the infamous first look at Hobohodo.

TGS 2006: First trailer released. A release date was set shortly aftwards, I believe...?

April 2007: Game comes out.

So unless they're planning a lot of new stuff for GS5, if they give us some real news this spring, we just might see GS5 in Japan as early as late 2008, or early 2009.

But that's just my speculation. :garyuu:

Yes, I think the same than you, Croik. I think it will be a late 2008, early 2009 release in Japan, it's a big possibility. But, maybe they want to make it longer and they add a Sixth Chapter with 5 days so we have time to waste, and take it out later. I don't know, just especulating.

There were two years between Raise From the Ashes and AJ( shot me if I was wrong...I don't believe in my memory), but I'm sure it won't take them this long to finish the GS5, unless they decide to abandon most of the AJ main characters. In the proceed of game making, drawing spirits and CGs cost longest time. I know it because I'm in a game making group. Since the main character's spirits of GS5 are ready made, for sure it will save them some time.

And I wonder has anyone noticed a piece of imformation from the Gyakuten Saiban Special court 2008 orchestra concert news? The conductor will be Shuu Takumi and I can hardly believe he would had time to focus on playing a conductor role if the script of GS5 hasn't been finished yet. (I would killed him if he really did something like that...oh yeah=_=)

I expect some news soon. At least a small screenshot or something. Even a screenshot of the corner of a screenshot would be awesome...because then the speculation-mill would start up and the year would get that much moe exciting. And it would be fun.

But with nothing to go on, there's nothing to anticipate.

Seeing as GS5 was announced nearly a year ago now (yes, a year) I expect to see some sort of announcements at the next big-ish gaming event. (Whether that be a Capcom event or a Nintendo event - which I think is E3.)

Going on Croik's Apollo Justice Timeline, this is how I see things going down with GS5:

E3, 2008: Tid-bits of info. Maybe trailer.

August 2008: Famitsu starts reporting tidbits about the characters.

TGS 2008: Final Japanese trailer released; A release date was set shortly afterwards.

November 2008: Game comes out in Japan.

March 2009: Game comes out in US.

Sometime between 2010 - 2015: Game comes out in Europe.

Although I do think GS5 will be released in Japan first, I don't think there will be much of a delay between territories. GS4 came out much later because AA2 was what the localization team was working on during development of GS4, and AA3 still had to be finished up, and AA4 needed to come after that. Now, however, the localization teams can be working side-by-side with the development of GS5, and because of the whole import issue (DS not territory locked), I would expect there to be very little delay between the release in Japan and US. As for Europe, it all depends on when AA3 and 4 actually get released... if they do pretty soon, then by this fall/next spring they should have their act together to make a near-simultaneous world launch.

Remember, the scripts are nearly final before the rest of development begins... which means, translating can be worked on through a lot of development.

So, I wouldn't be surprised, given the fan concern over importing, that they try and do something close to a near-simultaneous world lauch. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't, either -- realistically, this is what I would think, assuming GS5 is released in Japan this winter (Nov./Dec.): USA - Jan '09, Europe - March '09.

If GS5 is released in, say, April '09, then I would expect the USA and Europe releases to be around June/July '09, respectively.

:odo-objection: Given that T&T came out in the US in October 2007, and us poor people in Europe are still waiting for it, it'll be release in europe around October/November 2009! I'm sure it takes 5 or 6 months to be translated into french, spanish, etc AND be rated by PEGI, so...

And PEGI take aaaaages to rate games, we haven't got Warioware Twisted yet...

Well this is new news to me so i'll quote this guy.....
Quote:
When Shu Takumi was exclusively interviewed, he said that GS5 will still be on DS and it will be the last one for the series. However, it doesn't mean that there will be no new GS gamse, but rather the end of stories about Phoenix. After that, GS will become a totally new game and have nothing to do with the old series.

He also stated that GS4 was a "test" game. Thanks to the high sale record of GS4, the staff aren't worried about introducing a new story.

However, before the new game series can start, the current GS series must come to an end and GS5 will be the farewell show. GS5 will break the record of GS1's DS remake and become the longest one of the whole series. Almost all the old characters will turn up and some hidden clues in GS1234 will be looked on. Some of the cases which seem to have nothing to do with each other will show a connection. In a word, everything will become clear in GS5. What made the players even more excited, Shu Takumi revealed that the final boss of the all darkness is not a fresh face but someone we are quite familiar with! This person control all in the dark, who can he/she be?

Shu Takumi also said the most of the script has been finished and the game producing is on its way. There is also a piece of news which may let the players down: it's probably the last time that Shu Takumi will take part in writting the script for GS. From now on, other people will take over his work.

I hope it's true! ...That last paragraph made me sad

The new news to me is the fact that if there are stuff after gs5 phoenix won't be included it'd be a whole different story.

I did mention it's something like very popular hearsay when I translated it into English just for fun, but I never expected there would be so many people who took it seriously.
