The epicest of epic debate?

An apple with Mac OS 10
or an IBM/HP/any other maker that makes windows comps with Windows XP/Vista (your choice)

That depends. Is the Mac running Leopard, and is it a new iMac or MacBook? If so, the mac.

Either way, it doesn't matter, as Boot Camp allows Macs to run Windows or Linux on a partition.

The best of each....

Windows is still better as itself. Mac doesn't legally have a real windows program (i'm sure you could download an authentic one illegally for free.

Mac doesn't let me play most of my games nor has any decent game development tools, so I'll go with WinXP Pro SP2.

I like and use both (desktop is a PC, laptop is a PowerPC-based Mac). I also like Linux, but I haven't used that as much.

Maybe it's just me, but Windows is the only one I've actually had good experience with. I've had my Windows XP for about a year and a half, and it's much faster and easier to do anything on that I want to do than our Mac OS X (probably just because of how we have stuff set up, but that's how it is here... you can't even upload photos to that thing unless you don't need to do anything else for a while because iPhoto takes forever with our huge memory cards that have thousands of photos, while with mine, you just plug the thing into the camera and you can get to where the photos are in about a second). I used to have to use that Mac all the time, but one time when I went to my aunt and uncle's house and got to play on their Windows XP, I decided right then that I liked that better.

What's kinda weird is people say Mac is better for artists and Windows is better for gamers... I do art a lot more than I play computer games, but Paintshop Pro can usually do what I need, and I do like playing computer games and stuff on occasion.

Windows XP. Vista still needs to work out some stuff, its just like most of their OS's it needs time.

Also...
In before Elitism and linux bullshit. Seriously,I hate linux users. They always have to try to get other people to switch.

LOL My friend likes linux but doesn't use it.

Linux users just feel bad because they can't answer the big question. WTF is Linux?

I used to have one of those old 1984 Macintosh computers when I was younger. That thing totally kicked butt! Ever since Windows came along, it seems like Macintosh has been dumped on. Sure, Macs are great, but it's just not as popular as a PC. Apple is doing better on their hardware and such. We can thank the I-Pod for bringing Macintosh back on the map.

It's a set of system programs put together to create a coherent operating system that you can freely edit without any legal problems. All they ask is you publicise your modifications to allow other people to improve them or use the idea elsewhere.

To be technical, Linux itself is an OS kernel - the central nervous system of a CPU that handles communication between all the computer's hardware. It's the most important part which is why Linux-based OSes are called "Linux" even though that's technically inaccurate.

Linux is the best operating system if all you want to do is use the internet, check your e-mail and play a few games of Solitaire, and that covers most of the budget PC market. It's almost completely inappropriate for gaming because Microsoft keeps the core technologies for DirectX under-wraps so Linux developers cannot legally implement a clone version. For multi-media, it can do the job as well as or better than Mac OS, but you need to know what you want to use and how to use it - people used to using Photoshop and MS Paint will have to get used to GIMP and Krita. GIMP is lacking proprietary features that Photoshop has the licences for, but they are otherwise functionally identical. The up-side is you can always code your own plug-ins for GIMP if you wish, or hack GIMP to use a new feature which you can't do legally with Photoshop.

When it comes to server work, the only rival to Linux is UNIX, but UNIX is a lot less user-friendly due to its age. Linux and UNIX share the same security features and file system structures that help keep files safe. Using Windows Server is suicide and I don't believe there's a server version of Mac OS.

On-topic: I used to use Linux on this PC when I spent too much money on my computer to be able to afford a copy of Windows... >_>

In the end, the inability to game, use my sound card or use a wireless internet adapter forced me to switch to Windows, which does the jobs I want it to just fine. The computer feels flimsier without Linux on it though. :/
Does we even do these things anymore?

I've always had PCs at home and didn't ever really get to try out the Mac OS until I got to college.

But ever since I have used Macs I just have a connection with them (haha yeah that sounds odd), I just prefer Macs a lot better than PCs for what I am using a computer for in the first place.

And any program I need Windows for; I still can via Boot Camp.

So yeah...a Mac for me please.

I prefer Windows (although that gets less and less, as I learn 'nix). I have a 'nix box as well. It's fun to learn. Macs are alright, but I've never been a big fan, and only use'em if I absolutely have to.

Even if I were to use Boot Camp, Mac hardware isn't as easy to upgrade as PC hardware, plus "official" hardware bought from Apple stores cost the proverbial arm and a leg. Sorry, but there are way too many reasons to keep me around my WinXP SP2, and now that it's been mentioned, my Kubuntu partition. <3

Lol.

The reason no viruses are for linux is because about 600 people use linux.

Wrong. The REAL reason why there are no viruses for Linux is rather that there are so many DIFFERENT distributions of Linux with different inner workings, it'd take literally YEARS to make a virus that worked in all distros. There ARE viruses for Linux, but for example, one that worked in Fedora wouldn't work in Ubuntu, and one that worked in Mandriva wouldn't work in, say, Gentoo.

You just have to make it work. You can go to options and make it right click.

I kind of like clicking a button while clicking on a link.

Took a while to get used to, though.
