Help refresh me so I can write the case description, will ya?
This is a case 1 thread, so I'm not going to tag Case 1 spoilers. I'm gonna update this thread as I finish more. I'm going through the game as fast as I can!
Let's see if I have the crime part down:
Kagerou hired Masaka to help him bring down Phoenix the famous poker player. The plan was that Masaka would slip the 5 of hearts into Phoenix's pocket. Then, near the end of the match, she would deal a fixed hand so that Phoenix would play 3 aces and Kagerou 2, thus making 5 aces - an obvious sign of cheating. By searching Phoenix and "discovering" the 5 of hearts, Phoenix's reputation would be ruined.
That night, Phoenix had dinner with Garyuu. Shortly after Garyuu left, Kagerou showed up and challenged Phoenix to a match. Masaka planted the 5 of hearts, as planned, and dealt the game. But in the middle of the game Phoenix put his hands in his pockets and discovered the card. Realizing something was up, he snuck it into an empty grapejuice bottle.
But when the time came for the "throwdown", Kagerou ended up with the extra ace. He searched Phoenix and didn't find the card. In his anger he grabbed up the grape juice bottle and knocked Masaka out for screwing up his plan.
At some point, Phoenix ripped the locket off Kagerou's neck as well...?
And that's when...in a startling display of callousness towards an unconscious woman, Phoenix leaves Masaka there with the man who just attacked her so he can go upstairs to call the police (??????).
While he's upstairs, Kagerou retakes his seat. The cabinet behind him moves, sliding aside to reveal a secret passage that leads into the restaurant. He turns his chair around and sees Kirihito, who grabs the juice bottle (he would have had to reach over Kagerou to get it?) and smashes him in the forehead. Kagerou falls back in his chair. His hat falls off, and the blood from his wound drips onto the ace of spades left on the table.
Kirihito takes the ace, and replaces the bottle with one he took from Phoenix's stash upstairs. He slips a new card into Kagerou's hand so that it doesn't look like his hand was disturbed, but he doesn't realize that the game being played was with red cards, not blue, and adds the wrong card. He spins Kagerou back around and leaves the way he came.
Phoenix comes back down, and finds the dead body. He notices that Kagerou's hand has been changed and makes a mental note. Deciding it's a good oppertunity to "get" Kirihito (for some reason I assume will be made clear later) he goes back upstairs to call him. But during the conversation Kirihito makes a remark about Kagerou's shiny bald head. Realizing that Kirihito just screwed up - Kagerou didn't take his hat off the entire time he was there, thus no one should realize he's bald - Phoenix ducks back down again, and pops Kagerou's hat back on.
Planning ahead for court, Phoenix talks to Minuki, and has her prepare a fake version of the bloody ace he knew Kirihito must have taken. When he gets to court, he asks that Odoroki be the one to defend him. He would need Odoroki's help to take Kirihito down.
...That about cover it?
Oh yeah, and then Phoenix gets SLUGGED. That was the best part <3

Q: Garyuu's motive?
Q: Why take the ace? As far as I understood, it was used to pin the crime on Nick (with who won the game), but the card on it's own certainly didn't implicate Garyuu in anyway, right?

We don't find out in case one. Kagerou's identity remains a mystery as well.
There was a drop of blood on it, which proves that the chair was turned with the back to the table when the victim was hit (the trickle of blood runs towards the back of his head). This points out that the murderer came through the secret door and Phoenix couldn't have done it from his position in any plausible way, so the ace had to disappear.

They didn't ever explain what was up with the grafitti, did they...? I can't seem to remember.
By the end Odoroki refers to Koume as Takita's mother. She really is his real mother, right? I wasn't sure earlier in the case.

What graffitti? The paint on the door was spilled when Ukkari-Sensei hit Naruhodou, and apparantly ran over the paint cans as well. The reason they were there in first place was because they had the drawings on the fence (the dragon and such) renewed.

I haven't linked to this from the site yet. It's my first time writing a case description after only one playthrough, so I probably screwed up more than once~ It's also not as super detailed as I first intended, but since we're working a script anyway, it's about as detailed as the other descriptions.
I really liked the characters in case 2. I wish I had Takita's hopping sprite! He really grew on me, and his dad, too.

Changing the location was a bad idea from the start, and it's rather funny to see it come back to bite the localizers like this. I'm also interested to find out why

From what I've seen, the noodle hat is kind of the entire "gimmick" of his design. I don't think they'd change it to a giant head-burger for the US release...at least, I sure as hell hope they don't. I think the main reason they didn't worry about future problems when localizing the first game is because they expected it to bomb terribly in the US, hence making no need for a sequel.
But then again, they could explain it away by saying that he switched over from selling burgers to noodles at some point...

Finished this case today too. Quite a nice case with every trial day a good revelation. I loved interrogating Kawazu XD The little 3D animations, while not especially different from the old 2D maps, were quite interesting.
And I loooooove Garyuu's musical theme.

As for the noodle stand...I think the only thing the localization team can do is say he switched. They can't very well change the entire case (since the noodle bowls are all over the place, and are very important in the case).
It's not like they ever bothered to explain why a traditional Japanese village exists outside L.A. Or why there's snow.
Or, they could always just cover their tracks with "I thought I could attract more customers with a unique, Japanese-like gimick!" I know I wish they had ramen carts around here <3

Ra=stretched, Men=noodle.
Ramen are noodles made by stretching the dough using human hands (without cutting by a blade/machine) . It takes a lot of strength and skills to do that, so most time the chef who makes them are not very easy to find. In Japan, they are very serious on the soup accompanied with noodle, rather than the noodle itself. Most famous restaurants use a soup-base made of secret ingredients, some are as old as the restaurant's history. The owner in Case 2 has a passion on making the soup-base too.
The noodle cart could not be switched into a burger stand
...because the name of the cart has a reversed meaning and the panty thief thought it as something featuring grilled meat. If switching to a burger stand, then Odoroki could not be able to point out the contradiction. That part is very hard to localize.
A pasta cart, that will probably work. They can just explain it is pasta on the owner's head, and he loves ultra-salty pasta sauce.
