:hobohodo:

I honestly like the older Phoenix better, because he has a 'trickster' methodology and he appears to be conniving and in control. You honestly aren't entirely sure what he's planning at some points, and everything he does seems directed towards a purpose.

This is mostly personal preference. I like cunning and manipulative characters, and seeing their plans a little more than the 'hot-blooded protagonist' archetype. Lawyer Phoenix was actually pretty smart, despite speaking before thinking. I still like him better than Apollo, because Apollo seems a lot more excitable and less proficient than Lawyer Phoenix was, although that's probably due to his inexperience.

I think Hobohodou's 'coolness' is all a cover. I was replaying 4-4 today during the Mason system and there was a comment that proved :phoenix: is the same idiot we've all come to know and love.

That was probably my favourite part of Apollo Justice :butzthumbs: It sort of made me want to cry for him, but I was squeeing too hard.

I can also clearly imagine him on the ferris wheel. (In 4-3 somewhere Trucy says something like "Daddy doesn't like heights either... he took me on a ferris wheel once, and when we got to the top he kept saying 'objection' under his breath.") Poor Nick.

Which reminds me of another way that his transition into hobo-dom annoyed me. I know they needed a reason for Drew to stalk obsess over have an interest in Nick, but the fact that he didn't do ANYTHING when they revealed that he was using falsified evidence was really out of character, considering all of the things that he freaks out about in court. He should have done something more like this knowing that he was going to be disbarred.

Awww, I loved :phoenix: . I dunno, hes just a nice guy, and I kind of connected with him. When I first bought AA I thought he was going to be a scum bag for some odd reason, but he really is a lovable, dorky guy.

I think they ruined him :hobohodo: . I think his whole personality is wayyy too... I guess over the top?
I would have rather had him stay his lovable, dorky self.

I like :hobohodo: better because he has everything that's good with :phoenix: , but with even more added in. He's snarky, sarcastic, cunning, and he's still chasing after justice and truth. Unlike :phoenix: , who had depended a lot on luck and magatama and last minute turnabouts, :hobohodo: chased down every bit of information that shows him the truth. And he presented it in such a way that it is completely convincing to everyone involved.

In the other games, when :phoenix: comes out with his surprise turnabout, I'm... still a bit unconvinced about the case (except for 1-4 and 1-5). But in 4-4? The truth is undeniable.

One reason I prefer Hobohodo over :phoenix: is mainly because...
Spoiler: 4-4 kinda
:phoenix: got pretty cocky and kinda arrogant in the flashback during the trial. If that was going to become the personality of de facto Nick, then my liking of him would have seriously dropped.

I agree whole heartedly with that. Well, I suppose he learned his lesson. :sadshoe:

Also, what's with people calling :phoenix: "arrogant"?

Spoiler: 4-4
Nick made it clear that Klavier thought too highly of himself and that he was going to cut the rookie down to size. Phoenix has had that "ha! beat that" attitude before when presenting evidence in the first three games. In this case, it was obvious that he was trying to humble Klavier before he started thinking he was so great; he was teaching him a valuable lesson, and Phoenix says as much. How is flashback Nick any different from the Phoenix from the first three games? He isn't. Flashback Klavier is arrogant; flashback Phoenix and present-day Klavier are not.

I love Hobohodo so much I cosplayed as him over a Bleach character to my first anime convention before AJ was even out in America. He's so laid back and awesome to me, and when it came to presenting the forged evidence I paused and said "BUT I DUN WANNA." Yes. I did. *Nod* I felt horrible presenting it because I knew it was when Phoenix gets disbarred. I was pretty upset that they didn't do his head holding sprite or anything. He was kind of in shock I guess...

You do know that Phoenix never actually got paid for representing anyone. Add to that all of the expenses Edgey makes him pay and all the burgers he has to buy Maya, and you have to wonder how is isn't already a hobo at 1-1.

I'm fairly sure some of Phoenix's clients paid him, and given that he's defended quite wealthy people (Will and Max, for example) it would be enough to sustain him for a while.

Anyway, I prefer lawyer Phoenix. Even the judge admits Nick belongs in the courtroom, and to see him not in the courtroom is really sad.

Those examples are prove that he would be someone who would lend a friend money when they need it badly. If he can't say no to Maya's cravings for burgers, he isn't going to reject a friend in a tough financial situation. If I knew him, I would most likely never ask him for money, (I would be more inclined to make friends with hobohodo and chill out), but the point stands.

Also, I believe Phoenix's lack of money stems from the lack of cases he takes. There is no proof that Phoenix wasn't paid by most of his clients, especially when a good deal of them were rich. Or else the other other characters would probably make jokes about Phoenix "Pro Bono" Wright.

That's the point I was trying to make. Maybe I'm too nice, but knowing that Nick's poor I would never approach him for money, even if he were willing to give it. Unfortunately most of the other Ace Attorney characters don't share that view.

:hobohodo: is just profound. He does seem pretty jaded, and generally a more distant character, and has pretty much become a perfectionist in the past seven years. Not in character, but in terms of making sure that things went all to plan.

:phoenix: is definitely more sincere.

Overall, I like :hobohodo: more, though.

Spoiler: Light 4-4 Commentary
Interesting to note that, how I saw it, it seems that the internal workings of Phoenix's mind didn't seem to change over the seven year span in the MASON system. Same curiosity, just with an intent bent.

I can't see Nick doing that, though. It's like he immediately just gave up after being disbarred, which you may not find surprising until you bring  into the equation.

In 3-1 Feenie testified that he was an Art student studying law "on the side" (is that even possible?), because until Mia came along he didn't have that extra push to become an attorney. He was obviously studying for some sort of career before he decided to study law full-time, and according to his bio on the main site there was speculation that he was either going to be an actor or a mangaka if he wasn't a lawyer. But instead of falling back on whatever he had majored in, MASON Nick just gave up hope and became a shitty piano player/master poker player.

What gets me is that he didn't even try. After he got disbarred, and even after he adopted Trucy, he had no motivation, and didn't so much as apply (to our knowledge) for any jobs that he qualified for (Godot knows he didn't qualify to be a piano player). He had a family to support, and he absolutely didn't care. Wtf?

No, but really, he's just so... I don't even know. But I agree with Marshmello. Why didn't he become an artist or an actor or whatever he was studying for in college? He definitely would have been more qualified for that than a piano player, even if he didn't get his degree.

My Trial Record, 14-0. I support Klavi & Krissi.
