I spent TWO hours running around that room, trying to turn a switch that won't budge or find SOMETHING while this distended, morbidly-obese vampire-thing wrapped in about several people worth of mouldering, flayed skin slowly dragged itself after me, shrugging off every blow while phasing through metal bars...
...all because my screen was TOO dark to see the openings that led into the switch rooms that opened the various portculli, allowing me to pull a Rancor on him.
Partially my own fault, but I'd never had a problem with brightness in that game before, and found it extremely annoying that I missed something so obvious because of atmospheric lighting.
Also, Blood Omen 2's Marcus was pretty annoying in the first stage, because you have to quickly run behind a pillar before he incinerates you (one hit kill....fun), and then telekinetically knock him off his perch and into the water (for vampires, acid). After that part, though, he's fairly easy.

It murders everyone on your team so fast.. and you can't grind in that game, so no more leveling up after beating the story-missions, which are the only battles in the game.
Oh and any boss in Fire Emblem (if you die, you die) or Riviera (holy crap could that game be any harder? Good thing if you die it pretty much lets you try again with an easier version of the boss).

Wasn't a hard battle, but there were at least six successive battles in a row without saving, including four that were complete grinding as you went down an elevator. And I somehow unknowingly glossed over all sidequests and finished that purported eighty hour game in forty hours, and so I died. A lot.

Cackletta was not that hard. If you trained a lot, you should get to go first during the second form, and then use the item that heals both brothers by MAX HP. For me, I had to dodge one of her moves before moving, and I did it about 40% of the time.

Agile is easy. Both times you battle him, he's pretty damned easy. Now, I'll admit that if this is the first time you battle him, he'll be VERY VERY ANNOYING (I hated those sword waves >.<), but after you learn his pattern (which you should within the first or second try) you should be able to beat him while only taking one or two hits.
As for his second form, just keep spamming the magnet shot, and hold up as you shoot it. While you do that, dodge his attacks. Easy win. The only reason I use this is because it takes about ten times longer to beat him with the X-Buster... cause you have to climb up beside him and he usually turns red (invincible for a second) and bashes into the wall. x.x

Granted, he obviously had done the level a few times before and knew the movements, but it was kinda interesting.

AAAAAARGH SCREW YOU I THOUGHT I WAS SAFE FROM THAT MEMORY! Nah, but seriously, drama aside... he wasn't as bad in PoR because he was optional, and in DoS Soma mode... I don't remember what I did the second time that completely owned him (Claimh Solais abuse and actually learning how to dodge the locusts, I believe), but the first time was pretty irritating, but I finally took him down with Gergoth soul abuse... Julius mode, though... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
EVEN AT LEVEL FREAKIN' 70! I was trying to hurt that stupid bug with Julius's giant cross attack because nothing else was hurting him fast enough for me to live through the battle, but I still had to live long enough to recover enough MP to use it again... ><Also, speaking of Castlevania, pretty much everything in PoR, aside from Legion (and his level is extremely irritating, even if the fight isn't) and Gergoth (and he was still better in DoS because he did that cool floor-smashing thing).
And Puppet Master in DoS because he did that thing where he put a doll in an iron maiden and replaced it with you and it did a crapload of damage, and you had to do a certain amount of damage to whatever hand the doll was forming in in order to interrupt the move, and while you did that, he'd spit out a swarm of dolls to distract you... I really hate that guy...
Now, for non-Castlevania games...
Megaman Battle Network 1- Magicman and his stupid annoying virus summons that steal your area and slice and rain on you (and you can't even hit the raincloud viruses a lot of the time because they keep jumping up and floating slowly back down) and you're just completely screwed because you can't move anymore...
Megaman Star Force- The final boss, just because I ran out of cards and then died on the first two tries, and then won on the third try with maybe 5 cards left. Yes, my folder probably sucked.
Metroid Fusion- AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH THAT FREAKING SPIDER I HATE YOU SO MUCH!
You can only hit this thing when it opens its mouth to shoot fireballs, and then you have to roll up, jump gently over the flames, and try not to get grabbed while waiting for the flames in the corners to go out, and then you have to stay rolled up in a corner for the rest of the time and hope he doesn't grab you... I've read that he can't if you're rolled up in a corner, but he really can sometimes, and then you have to mash the D-pad until your thumb breaks in order to break out of the (energy-sucking) grip before he smashes you into the ground, which if he does, takes off enough energy tanks to make sure you'll die during the fight... and then he has his bouncing-around-the-room-dropping-crap-all-over-you form just in case you survived... and it doesn't help that right after that fight is the hardest SA-X chase in the game. x_x But I forget, can you go back to the save room after the fight and before the SA-X chase?

It also didn't help that I was only 8 at the time, complex battle strategies weren't my forte.

Funny, I don't remember him giving me that hard of a time. If you played your cards right, you could've easily dispatched his heads with ease.
Also, you could retreat from almost any battle provided you have the ability to do so (aside from using Egress for 80% of the game, I do recall someone or something else with a similar effect).
How about Raziel VS Kain in the first Soul Reaver?
Anyone ever beat that game WITHOUT being dragged back to the netherworld? Almost every 2-4 hits that connected, Kain would own you with the Soul Reaver!
It's cool that you don't actually die, but there's no greater torture than eternal ownage ;).
