I might be blind, but I didn't see any AnimeNext threads so...

So I was considering a lot of cons in the area, and it turns out that AnimeNext is the only one that fits into my schedule. I wanted to go to PortCon 'cuz of all the CR people that appear to be going (and the size), but I can't. Oh woe is me.

Anyways, does anyone know if AnimeNEXT is any good? I'm a newbie when it comes to cons (I've only been to one, but it was a lot of fun).
And is anyone from here going?
I'll be going as Maya if I end up going.

It's from June 20-22 in New Jersey, really close to NYC.

It's actually from June 20-22 and yes it is a good growing con :3 I've went two times in a row (this year will be my third). Though this year around I won't be cosplaying as a Phoenix Wright character. But it is a fun convention around the area. Lots of dealers come (artist alley and dealers alley), they usually have a J-rock bands coming in now (the first time doing this was in 2006 and it was Dir En Grey, last year was 12012). The convention hall isn't very big inside but the area around is /huge/ (they have several hotels around the hall, including a Holiday Inn with the biggest front lawn ever). Lots of places to eat too (I don't suggest eating inside the convention because of how much they even charge for food itself).

It's a shame that a lot of people from around CR don't really live around the area or might have never even heard of AnimeNext. It is a growing convention after all, and most people hear about it from their friends (I actually heard about it in 2006 when my friend and I couldn't get access to Comic-Con in NY (Javits Convention Center sucks because of the fire marshall ]: </3)

So come and it you won't be disappointed :D~

I attended for the past two years.

I'm not a big fan of smaller conventions, I enjoy cons as big as Anime Boston or Otakon, myself.
The number of attendants is increasing, but I simply don't like the convention building itself. It's very cramped in some places, and the dealer's room can get unbelievably crowded at certain times (although this isn't unfamiliar to any other con, the fact that it's a smaller space.. well, makes it worse.) The food is expensive in the building, so often you have to drive to the mall or elsewhere to get some grub. The weather can also get very hot (as it did last year if I remember), so bring water and other necessities.

In all, it's a decent con. Two years ago, I really enjoyed the masquerade and stuff, so it was all good and dandy. Unfortunately, last year it was the whole Haruhi phrase so three skits alone involved people just doing the dance on stage.

The panels are eh, but it depends on your likes and dislikes, I suppose. :]

I may be attending this year. Not sure yet.

Ooh, yes, I'd love to go! I just don't know if I'll be able to finish my costume in time. Also, I don't think my friends will come, and I don't want to go on my own...dunno, I might come.

And by "close to NYC," do you mean around Hoboken?

It's in Secaucus, NJ at the Meadowlands Expo Center.
I'm not sure where Hoboken is, actually, but I do know it's like 5-10 minutes from leaving NYC. :]

In the summer? D:
I thought Loon Mountain was for skiing. Although, I suppose you could hike there.
Lol, hope you have fun.

Wow, AnimeNext sounds... hot.
In the middle of the summer in a small convention center with a decent amount of people?
Oh god.

I don't remember if there was air conditioning in the building but since it's an expo center, the building is very tall (ceiling is high). So, there is (to my experience) plenty of air circulation inside the building. :] No worries about heat inside.

What I was talking about was the outside, with hardly no shade (besides the adjacent parking lots), taking photoshoots on the lawn for maybe an hour+.
Yeah, needless to say, (but I'll say it anyway) it gets hot. >_O;

Anime NEXT itself is not a bad convention at all. and its in a nice place--for those who get bored, its only fifteen minutes away from NY's malls and stores!

Not my fav con, but I am totally attending it, because cons rock.

If you take the 85 bus at the bus station in Hoboken then you can take a straight ride to the convention hall in about 30 minutes or so.

@Vick: Three skits? You sure~ -was there and only saw one Haruhi skit- It was the opening skit but after that I didn't see anything having to do with Haruhi myself.

Yep, I definitely remember at least two.

This '07 review of the con supports it:
"SOS Bridgade- The lead was an excellent lip-syncher, but the audio wasn’t so hot and the stage looked empty with only half the Haruhi cast up there. This had us thinking, “alright, how many needless Haruhi dancing skits will we see tonight?” Fortunately, I only counted three by the end."

Source: http://www.animeforum.com/articles/33-A ... Review.php

As well as some blogs about the event mention three skits.

Hmm...well back then my knowledge of Haruhi was quite blank. Plus it was almost a year ago so ya :B -can't remember too well sad enough- I'm an old person ;O; -gets her cane-

But it was an amusing con overall. The dealers market got a little stricter this year around- they weren't allowing bags inside unless they could fit in some bin. Kind of crappy (especially since I was a local so I didn't really have a place to store my bags at like a hotel) but still a somewhat good way to prevent shop lifting, unless people go off and steal smaller items that can fit in pockets -actually saw a couple people do that- D:

Panels were fun though. There were ones for Pokemon, Ninja Turtles, Red vs Blue and a whole lot more. Also bringing in a band like 12012 was a good idea: they're just starting to get popular, thanks to being featured in the anime RomeoxJuilet. Though I was a little too close to all the action and my hearing was greatly effected D; </3 Ah well~

This year I hope more PW cosplayers will show their faces. Last year I only saw a Maya and Edgeworth but that was it. Plus Jesus came so that was super awesome too.

P.S.: I pray for a decrease of Naruto cosplayers.

It's right after my Graduation, so I'll probably ask to go as a gift. I plan to go as Shuichi Shindou from Gravitation (my friend didn't comply on being Yuki so I'll have to carry around a "Have you seen my seme?" sign...) I've got the proper clothes for his casual wear (the sweatshirt-n-shorts thing he wears a lot in the anime)
Yay for being a NYC resident! <3

No. I was going with a friend, and we were gonna split the hotel cost, but it turns out that she couldn't go and my parents are NOT paying that much for me. D: Oh well... maybe some other con...

^ I recommend the New York Anime Festival. 'Twas my first con, went there last December. It was great fun, a perfect first step into the convention scene for me.
