Besides, if this is their way of providing fanservice to the fans who prefer Phoenix arc to AJ, I think the last thing they'd do is put in such a prominent AJ character.

Yes, the man is blonde. Yes, the man wears glasses. That's as far as the similarity goes. Seriously, compare him to official art of Kristoph and you'll see how different they are.
What bugs me most is the color. The man in the scan clearly has very light skintone and hair color... the guy's as pale as a sheet. If you look at Kristoph, though, he's got a California beachboy combination like his brother, just a more subtle version of it.
It. Is. Not. Kristoph. The people who think so are just victims of wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

To me, it would really suck if this new game doesn't tie into all of the other games somehow. It'd be epic if this game could atleast fill us in on ONE giant plothole somewhere, or atleast give us more insight into characters we don't know much about.
Klavier used to not have the spike either, and he also had short hair. A short blonde younger Kristoph IS possible.
Lets just wait and see, we'll kill the excitement if we over speculate to death before anything official comes up.

I resized the magazine shot two different ways, in case one was more clear than the other, but...they look the same, really. Anyway, there are some definate similarities, but the biggest strike against it (as far as I see) is that the team is just too lazy to change him that much!
Looking at Edgeworth's body shots, they're pretty much re-done versions of sprites he already had - same pose, different size and detail. And even within games, they hardly distinguish between how a character looks years ago versus how they look now. Just look at Klav:
There's a few alterations, but it's more or less the same face with touch-ups.
I don't want to diss the team, because they do a great job, but we're talking about a series that did not update Phoenix's sprite sheet over four games. Even in AJ they didn't even bother to give him a bit of extra color to make him look DS-ized. Ema was gone for just as long, and she still didn't change that much.
I know it sounds insignificant, but... I think if they really meant for it to be Kristoph, they would have kept his bangs parted on the side. XD
Unless...Iwamoto just decided to redo Kristoph's art himself :<

Well, remember, Phoenix's sprite sheet got left the same because it could be. The angle was always the same. Same with the Klavier & Young Klavier thing, they were just being lazy. This game sort of changes that, since the characters are going to be standing Fire Emblem style. In other words, they're being forced to redraw all of the characters anyway, so why not give Kristoph a new design for the ten-year leap?
Even Edgey looks a bit different, his cravat is bigger. That thing is growing the more the series goes on.

Now, is it just me, or do I see Kristoph's little fringe twisty thing on our mystery person's head?
The only difference here is that our Mystery person does not have Kristoph's cake-icing squeezer hair, and the right part of his hair isn't combed back. But he does have Kristoph's hair color, and he does look as if he's wearing glasses.
Now, my next point is.
Remember the screenshot of that kingly-looking person on the scan?

Now, I'm not sure about you, but IMO I think Capcom enjoys reusing and developing old character designs... (Look at Apollo, Trucy, and Ema. And look at the earliest designs of Lawyer, partner, and detective. They look pretty similar to me. Also, Prosecutor's first old-guy character was instead developed further into Manfred von Karma when it wasn't used for Edgeworth.)
And if you look at Kristoph's earlier designs...

You'll see that the design of both old Kristoph(s) and the new purple person have a little bit of similarity. Could it be that they used his old unused designs to develop into a relative of the Gavin brothers?
I say that it's totally possible. (Plus, the both of them have that bit of elegant European-ish air, don't they?)
Anyways, this is just my opinion/thinking. You're free to say whatever you want.
I'm sticking to my belief that this person is Kristoph Gavin, and this will not change unless I'm proven wrong officially. (IE. Magazine scans, official names, etc.)
(I was the first person to suggest this, after all. It wouldn't make sense if I just threw away what I'd said in less than 3 days, right?)

Thank you, that's the best thing I've read all day.
And for the sake of topicality, I'd say that there are quite a bit of resemblance points that I at least acknowledge the possibility. Like Croik said, though, it doesn't seem like a good move to start bringing in characters from the new arc when the game is designed around the old one, least of all ones that wouldn't really benefit from additional backstory.
This sorta reminds me of the days when first word of GS4 was coming out, and people were trying to prove that Kristoph was actually Edgeworth in disguise.

Honestly, I think Kristoph desperately needs additional backstory to make his character make sense, but that's just me.

I seriously don't have a clue where anyone could get the idea that this guy is Kristoph. He doesn't look like him. At all. Plus, if he were to be in the game, I would think they'd either keep it a secret or simply state that he's in it. They wouldn't show some blurry profile picture in the magazine to make people speculate. It's just ridiculous, no matter how you look at it.
And personally, I hope there's NOTHING from GS4 in the game.

Let me run down the list...same hair color, similar shading, same nose, same expression, same shape of head, same shape of chin, and looks to have a similar outfit design from the tiny bit we can see. Really, the only differences I can spot are hair shape, facial size, glasses shape, and skin tone. And Ema changed all of those when she changed age.
If he's not meant to at least be part of the Gavin family, he's a plagiarization.
