Near's overconfidence really bugged me the whole time; that probably has to do with it as well.
I agree about the second arc. I would've been content if they just ended it at the first arc.

I have a real problem with the anime. It made changes that didn't seem necessary. Don't fix something that isn't broken. The voices were pretty crudely done too, for the Japanese version that is. American was slightly better.
One thing is for sure though, the animation was phenomenal for an anime. At least it had that.

It's okay. I've never seen any of the anime. :/ I find that I'm disappointed with anime once I've already read the manga. They do unnecessary things like what you just mentioned.

The book is a spin off and Mello tells the story. One of my favorite lines was "the first person to read this will probably be the big headed twit Near"

He's not the one who does the art for DN though, he has a team of artists with one main artist draw it. He just makes the thumbnails, and his artist, Obata or something like that, designs all the characters and draws everything...

I went with my sister to watch the Death Note movie in theaters. I stuck around for the special making of after the movie too. I really liked it, and am looking forward to the second film. I liked the dub too, since the movie has the same voices from the current English dub.
