Hardly. You have to remember that she isn't grumpy because it's part of her personality or anything, but because of not getting her dream job that she had worked so hard for and being stuck in a job she dislikes working for a "glimmerous fop" that she claims she can't stand. That, and probably also finding out that the man she considered herself very indebted to (she probably considers him to have saved her life) was no longer a prominent defense attorney, now reduced to playing piano and poker for money. The main reason she returned after studying abroad was to repay him by using her forensic skills to help his investigations, and now he's not even a lawyer anymore.

Her youthful, sparkling enthusiasm for anything scientific is her trademark, not "grumpyness".

I wish people would stop calling her "grumpy." It's not a personality change! Come on, seriously. She's a 25-year old young woman. Piece it together. :P :sassy: (The dead-end job doesn't help, either. XD)

She still has the silly sensibility and scientific affinity we know from 1-5. :scientific:

Are you saying it was "her time of the month" or something? :p

And she's much more competent at that job than Gumshoe ever was. Maybe if she works hard enough at it, she might get a transfer to forensics as a reward. Still, Gumshoe has her beat in the "dramatic rescues" department, too bad we didn't get to see Ema do something like that.

I feel really bad for Ema. I fail to see how she could have failed the forensics exam after all those years of studying and the amount of enthusiam she has for forensics- she seemed like an intelligent girl. Mabye she was just having a bad day or something, which doesn't explain why she couldn't just try again. *shrug* I guess it doesn't matter now.
Her interactions with :minuki: are adorable... that pairing is a bit a guilty pleasure of mine. Any donations of fiction and art would be greeted with many internets.

Talking to Ema in AJ reminds me of Owen from the TV show Torchwood... mind you, she does get all cute and smiley quite often when Apollo is asking her to do scientific stuff, especially in 4-4. Perhaps Trucy had found the best way to this woman's heart heh...! :ema:

Hm, If I remember that case correctly... Apollo was a little wierded out by that statment, and Trucy said "Polly? What's a temptress?" Apollo said "Nothing, nevermind." (Or something like that.)

That whole scene was hilarious. That's the exact kind of thing that would make for a great comedy moment if we ever see an Ace Attorney anime or something.

Ema should meet Maya. I don't think she ever has, and they're close to the same age. Their conversations would be funny to see, if Ema's interaction with Trucy as mentioned above is any indication.
And with Maya's love of food, Ema would probably get her hooked on Snackoos too. :maya:

Yeah, I think Ema's a pretty cool girl. She thinks things through and doesn't afraid of anything. *KER-SHOT*

Actually, I was playing through Case 4-4 again today (since it has my favorite Ema mini-game. >D>), and I just noticed something very naughty within the script.
Spoiler: WARNING! WILL CAUSE LOVE TRIANGLES
If you all remember when you return to the scene of the crime, Ema decides to help you out some more WITH SCIENCE! However, it seemed to me that Apollo and Trucy were thinking of something else with Ema. My bets were on that Apollo and Trucy were very aroused due to the minty, minty breathe of Spark Brushel. Unfortunately, even with their "mature appitite" yearning, Brushel was still "DO NOT WANT", so they flee to the crime scene hoping that no one is there. When they find that Ema was still there, Apollo quickly thought of an idea to make it fun for everyone!

~The Game Script~
Apollo: (I bet Ema could help us out here.)

Trucy: Don't forget, flattery will get you everywhere with her, Apollo!

Ema: Huh? What are you two whispering about?

Apollo: Well, I was thinking. I mean, what is it we always do when we run into you at a crime scene?

Apollo: What is it we always do... scientifically?

Ema: Ah, you know me too well! OK...

Apollo: OK... meaning we can get erm, scientific now?

Ema: Oh, I suppose. Just this once!
~~~~~~
And here I thought they all were just a couple of friends... The next line makes it even worse, too.
~~~
Ema: Bring me anything you find suspicious and we'll check it out.
~~~
... Must I go on? : D
Still, Ema is awesome. She Snackoo'd me WITH SCIENCE!
Not to mention her line (regarding Trucy in 4-3)
Ema:
She tempted me! She’s a Temptress!
Or something like that.
I have to say, I'm torn, on one had, I want Ema to be happy, and get the job she wants (and deserves), but then we might not see her as much, and I'd be sad then...
That reminds me, should we allow for discussion of Ema pairings in this thread, or limit it to the existing pairing threads? I know some other character threads disallow pairing debates (there is a seperate pairing debate thread)... (one need only take a look at the above post, then at my current avatar, to get the gist of what's brewing)
I'm fine with it, I accept that my pairing has at best passing references...
However, didn't Croik say no more pairing threads?
I’d rather this doesn’t get locked so I’m not sure what the correct answer is...
My call would be to make sure the focus is on Ema herself, and not dominate the thread with pairing chat, but the occasional disagreement and show of support is fine, so long as it doesn't get out of hand...
But then again, I'm not sure that's right either...
Yeah I hated her as a Maya replacement simply because she was so blatantly a Maya copy, topknot and all.
As a detective she isn't a Gumshoe copy, she actually has a distinct personality.
Note that Maya is 18-20 throughout the series. Then note that Ema was 15 at the time of 1-5.
Take this into consideration when you compare their behaviors and personalities. Says something about Maya, doesn't it?
Little Ema Skye....she grew up. She filled out. ^^
Honestly though, I'm glad to see Ema make a return in this game. It's kinda sad she has to work a job she doesn't like and deal with Prosecutors more concerned about off song cues than murders. (4-2 boys and girls.) But y'know what, we get to brighten p her day by helping out with science, and that's what matters.
While I do have my soft spot for the big old lug Gumshoe, (He got me out of more jams than I can remember.) Ema and her minigames have their own place as well.
tl;dr: I like cute detective too.
NO U
I was grown up in a house that chewing your food very, very loudly like that was considered rude unless if it can't be helped. Then that makes me think of the question: "Does Ema Skye learn any manners from when she was 15 to now?"
...Then the horror is Oldbag smacking 15-year-old Ema with a ruler as she tries to eat soup properly is startling. :beef: I love how she munches, though, even if it is on hamster poo. I bet she goes through at least 5 bags of Snackoos per hour day, thus explaining why she got them from her boss as an award. XD
