I'm going to be doing Hobo-Phoenix at JACON '08 (Kissimee, FL from May 16-18; if you're curious). Ever since last year I've found joy in making costumes that, externally, don't seem like costumes at all. Stuff you'd have to be familiar with before you'd realize its a costume and this is right up my alley.

So anyway, here are some preliminary pics I took of what I've done so far.

Spoiler:
Image
This is the hoodie, hat and locket. I have the pants back at my apartment so the only thing I need is the sandals. I may also color the cords blue (or replace them altogether with blue cords) before the convention.

Spoiler:
Image
Close up of the hat I made. Nothing special; just some fabric marker and a plastic button you can stick stuff in.

Spoiler:
Image
The locket. I decided early on to either go with something of the correct shape or color but I realized that doing both might be nigh-impossible. I decided to go with the correct color in the end and I think its a good enough stand-in. My mother makes custom jewelry so I had her do the chain.

Spoiler:
Image
The locket opened.

I'm also thinking I might carry a deck of cards around with me.

I'll get you some pics at the con with me wearing the full outfit.

I was always under the impression that it was a picture of Trucy when she was younger in the locket. Maybe I'm wrong?

Yeah, it's the younger, redder Trucy in the locket, but that's still hardcore right there.

Case 1:

Spoiler:
Image
During Case 4, Zak shows his locket to Phoenix and that's the one that has the younger Trucy in it. Trucy also has a locket with a picture of Thalassa in it. The locket Phoenix carries with him has Trucy at age 15 in it and he shows it to Apollo during the first case (after he plucked it from Zak's neck).

Thanks for clearing that up. It's been a while since I played the first case, so I only remembered it from later :P

Ah, that's in the Japanese version I believe. In my copy of Apollo Justice, the case 1 picture is a very pixely-grainy young Trucy. I don't see why they changed that for the North American release though.

That looks fantastic! I wish I could make it to JACON. I'll be hitting MetroCon, though. (With my newly completed Phoenix cosplay!)

Get lots of pics, okay? ^_^

omg. I need to get my beanie done like yours... and the hoodie... and the slippers. I can use the same pants as I am for my Klavier cosplay, so I'm good on that.

Natch...maybe you're right.

I think I recall writing something to this length in some fanfiction I did. When he pulled out his locket to show someone I recall I had a picture of current Trucy in there and for some reason I seem to remember this being something I had noted when I was writing it (that he had changed the picture).

I may do this the hard way and just play through Case 1 to verify.

I find the idea of you dressing as my favorite character very intriguing. ^_^

I think I remember playing the Japanese version of case 4-1 and seeing a different Trucy picture when I played the English version later. I wonder why...?

Why not find a Trucy Cosplayer to pose for the locket picture? That would make it much more awesome.

Sadly this isn't a group project; its one of my own design so I don't have someone who could pose for that.

I don't know if you knew this, but there is paint out there that works on metallic substances, so if you find a locket of the same style, you can paint the necessary parts with paint to make it look gold. Just my two cents.

Bah, this turned out bad. I was in too much of a hurry at the con and didn't get a good chance to get any pics. I'm going to take some new ones later. So sorry. :larry:

Ooh, you make a great hobo Phoenix! Nice official art pose. :hobohodo: Did you know you can remove that logo on the hoodie? It looks embroidered, so all you have to do is take a seam ripper to it and iron it out afterward. Awesome cosplay! :butzthumbs:

I made a Phobo costume and went to FanExpo as him if you want pictures of mine >: someone recommended carrying cards but for photos, I believe
Spoiler:
Grape Juice
would make more sense.. more photo friendly.
What I like about rubik's cubes, is that everyone wants to know how to solve one, but also hate you for knowing how.
