Since the game is in Japan (originally) they go by the Japanese system, which really isn't that different from the US, in terms of what ages are in what grade level (and the number of grade levels).
By her age in GS4, we can already tell that her birthday, on the year she appears in GS1, has already passed that particular year. So if she JUST turned 16, she would technically be in grade 10, which is the equivalent of a Japanese HS freshman (1st year HS) and a US sophmore (2nd year HS). Japan's high schools typically go from 10-12th grade, while US high schools typically go from 9th-12th grade. (we're talking AVERAGE public schools, since Ema is a public school student.)

For the first comment, I rather agree. It's ... just not good. Snackoos are funnier. And as for the second comment, Ema would probably continue to eat them with the allergy medicine beside her. Her love of snackoos knows no bounds.

I enjoyed her maya!version, but I'm glad she's grown into her own character. She provides some great comic relief and even though everyone complains about her being grumpy, I thought when playing through that she wasn't actually that bad o_O She was a LOT more cheerful and polite than I was expecting due to getting to do scientific investigation and finding out Trucy was Phoenix's daughter.
