Personally, I find those kind of girls more annoying than anything and it makes me want to gag and feels like I've had "too much sugar" . But that's just me. *shrugs*

A character doesn't have to be aesthetically pleasing to be considered cute. It's their little quirks and behavior that assists in determining the "Aww" factor.
Minuki and Maya are cute to people because of their actions yes, but Maya dresses like a spirit meduim [or 'hippie'....it's what the other characters tend to call her >>] and Minuki dresses like a magician. Makoto dresses like an artist..
But it's a matter of personal preference and taking things beyond face value. ;D
