You know, we do seem to have a lot of these threads cropping up lately. Perhaps a single catch-all thread for this will do...

Well, seeing that you already have a black wig, you could try Maya. Pick a character that doesn't annoy you and that you would enjoy cosplaying. I'm not very fond of Maya, so when I cosplayed her, it wasn't nearly as fun as say, Ema.

Way too many Emas and Mayas. I recommend Maggey Byrde or Penny Nichols, most definitely.

Same here. My first thought was Penny Nichols, but I guess Maggey would work pretty well too.

Nonsense. There aren't too many Mayas or Emas. Minor characters are cool and all, but keep in mind you'd be pouring all of that effort into a single outfit that you'll probably wear once or twice a year. You're going to want some recognition on those occasions, and if you're Penny Nichols no one will even think you're in costume at a convention unless you deliberately hang around some Phoenix Wright cosplayers (and even then only a few people will know who the hell you are).

Wasn't it you who wrote in another thread, "You should cosplay who you want to"? Who cares if you cosplay a minor character or not? I'm going as Damon Gant and I don't care if no one at Portcon recognizes my character. Also, in every cosplay video I have ever seen even slightly pertaining to the games, there were at least three emas/mayas, more than two of Phoenix and Edgeworth as well as more than one of Gumshoe and Franziska. Now, I remember looking at some Sakuracon pics. There were At least 5 Godots during that event.

HOW DO I OVERUSED COSPLAY IDEA?

Of course you should cosplay who you want, and if that would be Penny Nichols, by all means go for it. I'm just saying that it's not nearly as rewarding in my opinion to cosplay a little known character. Be honest, even the most rabid Phoenix Wright fan would have trouble discerning a Penny Nichols from a crowd of congoers. There is nothing wrong at all with cosplaying a commonly done character either. Is it such a big deal that people like Maya and Edgeworth? The Phoenix Wright series isn't nearly to the point where cosplays are overused. Heck, PW cosplays are underdone if anything. When you get to something like the number of crappily done Ls from Death Note, then that's too much. Until then, polish those lawyer badges, magatamas, coffee mugs... whips... and get out there. ;)

I understand what you mean about it not being rewarding because nobody would recognise your character... And I understand that Penny Nichols isn't really dressed in specific enough of an outfit, but...

I'd find it even less rewarding to just me "one of the Mayas" or "one of the Edgeworths", personally. As long as you're someone the fans can recognise (and that's the case of Maggey) I'd say if you're looking for a reward, having lots of "I'm glad someone's doing it!" and "You don't see many Maggeys out there!" is nicer that "Hey, another Maya! Nice outfit!"

But it's a specific taste thing. You shouldn't feel like you can't cosplay a character you love because other people will do it. You'll just have to make sure you're the best one by far, so that you'll still stick out :P
