"A client?! I'll be there right away." Gregory Locke, defense attorney, grabbed his briefcase and his jacket. Business was very slow these days, a client would help. Ever since he quit his teaching career and opened the law office, he'd been rather worrisome about money coming in. His lucky charm, a small silver wing-pin was, as always, pinned opposite his attorney's badge. His horn-rimmed glasses made him look more like an accountant or scientist than a lawyer. He tried his best to straighten his hair in the car on the drive down, but with just his hands fumbling with the rear-view mirror while sitting at red lights, it still stuck up in more places than he wanted.

He strode into the Detention Center with his briefcase in hand and his tan suit looking as prim as it could be if he didn't accidentally wash the pants in the machine once or twice. "Morning, Julia. Good to see you're looking well. What's the case?"

Gregory stroked his chin for a second. "Hmmm...Her step-sister on staff. If there's any bad blood between them, it would make a prime motive for murder. Certainly better than the one our esteemed client would have. As far as the time of death...if the critic was doing a piece on the restaurant, they'd certainly re-open the restaurant for her, especially since she has family on staff. But that's rather perplexing...generally food critics show up during business hours, so they can judge the attentiveness of the staff and the dining atmosphere as well as the food itself. Perhaps she had another reason altogether for being there."

Gregory shrugged. "We definitely have our work cut out for us, Julie. We'll need to talk to our client when he gets out of questioning. And we'll need to visit the scene of the crime as well as talk to the witnesses."

"I'm curious about how the poison entered the soup. The lack of a mass poisoning suggests that this was intentional. Of course, until the bowl is tested, we can't even say that the poison was in the soup. We'll have to wait for the tests to come back on that."

Gregory let his shoulders fall in a resigned shrug. There was no stopping Julia. There was no stopping her when he was her teacher, and there was no stopping her when he was her superior. Youth these days. Calling her Julie was the best way to get her attention to the fact that she kept calling him 'Greg.' As much as it irked him, it also rubbed off on him nicely, although Gregory kept that a secret.

"Officer, don't worry. She's my assistant." He offered the olive branch of peace to the annoyed officer. "We're looking for my client, Marques Man Fonne. Do you know his current status?"

Edgeworth drove into the police station's parking lot, maneuvering into one of the spaces reserved for visiting prosecutors. He parked his car right in the middle of the space and exactly parallel with the lines. As he stepped out of the car, he stifled a yawn. Even the great Miles Edgeworth was not immune to jetlag. He'd barely had time to check the preliminary papers for the trial. A poisoning case in a restaurant... I recall Wright tackled a case like this once.

Edgeworth pulled out his papers from his glove compartment and flicked through them. The motive seems solid, but the circumstances are rather bizarre. It would be best to make further enquiries with Detective... Edgeworth turned to the front page of the police report. He frowned. Gumshoe. I should have known. He's like gum on your shoe.

Edgeworth closed the file, and glanced around the empty parking lot. Franziska isn't around. Perhaps she's whipping Gumshoe. Edgeworth walked into the Police Department, headed for the Criminal Investigations Department, where he was sure he would find Gumshoe.

His eardrums certainly needed a reworking. He never wanted to think of himself as old, hell, he was only 26, but music certainly changed from when he was a kid. Julia truly was incorrigible. "Sure..." he offered off-handedly. The sincerity of the comment was in doubt, but he doubted Julia was looking for it. He kept driving to reach the crime scene. The upholstery on his car was another thing in the long list of things he needed clients to spend money on, somewhere after fixing the tiny office and somewhere before nice things for himself. That one always seemed to get pushed further and further down the list. At times, he envied the prosecution.

At least the air conditioner worked. No sense in investigating the scene or defending a man's life while sweating like a dog.
