Haha, I guess I've been spoiled by the Japanese version. ^_^;; Cecil's voice could stand to be a shade deeper, but he's got the right feeling. Kain's voice is a nearly perfect match to his Japanese counterpart, but Rosa's... Well, I reserve judgment until I hear more of her dialogue. I don't know whether it'll match the original cast in my heart, but it's DEFINITELY better than I expected. Kudos, SQEX of America.

BTW, you remember when I was here last and spoke of my growing horror at the thought of fighting Cagnazzo? I have a fun tidbit for you guys if you're curious...
Spoiler: Cagnazzo, the Twins, and Troia
HE. ISN'T. WEAK. TO. LIGHTNING. ANYMORE.
Arrrrrggggghhhhhhhh! I still managed to beat him much more easily than Scarmi, but he was a lot tougher than before. I should amend my previous statement by saying that he was weak to lightning when his water-shieldy-thing was on, but it was so rare... And then he friggin' totaled my crew except for Palom and Porom... Who of course weren't long for this world. All that EXP... gone to waste... T_T I believe that in this game, you do not have the extra characters available for the ending (probably because of the constraints on space for voice acting), so after P&P turn to stone, you don't get to use them again, if I remember right. At least there was one good thing going for the buggy GBA version.

BTW, the music for Troia sounds pretty good! I don't like the new underlying beat, but the instrumentals are great otherwise. Right now, I'm outside the Dark Elf's magnetic cave, waiting to retrieve the Earth Crystal. Oh joy, crappy weapons or limited mobility... Take your pick.

The Dark Elf boss.

I always would mess myself up if I didn't pay attention to Edward to equip my sword and metal equipment...one time on the GBA version, I beat him with my weak equipment! :gant:

Who doesn't love our poor, extraneous dragoon? I always thought he and Rosa would be a good match because Rosa doesn't deserve Cecil their personalities made a better compliment to each other.

Holy shit! I can't imagine doing it that way. 0_o Someone needs to pin a medal on you. Other than that scene, by the way, did anyone else ever find any use in Edward? Anyone?

I personally can't stand the foppish little spoony bard. I like his character design okay, but he just annoys me so much, and he's nearly useless in battle... >_o

When I first tried Edward, I got really annoyed when he died too much.

I always laughed at the part when Edward tripped in Fabul. Quite an indeeed stunt there! :gant:

I remember he only has 3 weapons throughout Final Fantasy IV:

Heh, heh. I had a feeling that might happen. I am now waiting for you to get to the final boss...and realize he has a Gant head grafted on his shoulders screaming in Japanese :gant-clap: "Prepare to be raped!"

Also, I bought the Japanese version myself and is playing it... I am already impressed, but not being able to read Japanese kinda makes it hard for equipment and items. About to get to Tellah.

Well, for equipment, I just use the auto-equip feature and have the computer do all the work for me. ^_^; If you aren't already, I suggest you start studying hiragana and katakana right away! It's sooooo handy for so many things, FFIV DS included. The word for potion is "poshan" in katakana, and hi-potion is "hai poshan," plus if you can remember what the name of your status ailment is in hiragana (by looking under the character's name), you can just use the item that has the name of that status in its description. All-in-all, fairly simple. The spells are easy, too: Fire is "Faia," Blizzard is "Burizado," etc.
...The thought of Zeromus with Gant grafted onto him is going to haunt my nightmares. Thanks a bundle. 0_o

LOL, I love the bit where Cecil slaps the little bitch. He had it coming. ...I'm sorry, I can't help that I'm so hostile towards Edward. T_T

So Cagnazzo and lightning = not good???? D: Well as long as he doesn't heal from the attack, right??? And you're sure the twins can't come back??? That makes me sad because I loved the twins. It would be nice if they could come back in this version as well.

Btw, not exactly DS related but I found this cool music video on the four fiends. I can't understand a lick of it, but I thought I'd show you guys.

Oh, I'm so excited! I love Steve Blum. His voice is hot~

Well, Dully, lightning just does normal damage to Cagni now. It makes the battle much longer since his most obvious weakness is severely limited from the original version. And I'm sorry, but as near as I can tell... T_T

Edit: That music video is friggin' awesome! I was cracking up, and now I wish I knew what the lyrics all meant. I was only catching tiny bits. ^_^;;

I laughed so hard seeing that second picture. Sad thing is...I can actually imagine it happening.

These English voice actors are impressing me. I am glad they actually put effort into it. I would have been ashamed for S.E. if they screwed up one of their most classic FF with horrible V.A. so I am glad they are doing it right.

Anyone remember the voice-acting from FFX? If you don't, count your blessings. I couldn't bear to play more than two hours of that game for several reasons, and the shitty cutscenes were a definite turn-off. So FFIV is looking pretty damn good so far!

Yeah, that second picture is so awesome! There should be more stuff about Cecil and Golbez. Well... I might have to see about that personally...

You spoony bard. XD

I'm looking forward to the localization. I find that, over the years, translation teams have gotten much better at capturing the feel of the original but still making it accessible to a Western audience.

Looks like this is the final cover art for the USA.

Image

Also according to UK website Play.com, it could be out in Europe on September 26th.
http://www.play.com/Games/DS/4-/5800699/Final-Fantasy-IV/Product.html

Regarding the European cover art. If its ANYTHING like FF3, they'll do the Amano artwork over here for the cover.

Imagine this, but with a PEGI rating in the corner.

I actually never played FFIV before (or most of the Final Fantasys), but I did like FFIII DS and this game looks good. Can't wait for it to come out.

*imagines an epic, pre-rendered or whatever they used for this game cut scene where someone shouts "You spoony bard!"*

That US cover art is awesome.

Damn, I really wanted the Japanese cover art out here... Oh well, still looks pretty good. Can't wait for my pre-order to come in~
Spoiler: After the Tower of Zot
I hadn't been playing for a while, but I just got to the underground. Damn, it's been really good so far! Barbariccia was thankfully a LOT easier than the other two Elemental Lords were. Still looking forward to how Rubicante turns out in this version. by the way, I'm about to enter the dwarf castle, so I'll finally get to see whether the dirty magazine and developers room are still there. ^_^ Poor Tellah finally met his end of course, but boy was I glad to finally see the back of him. -_- Much as I love his character, I begin to realize how useless he is in battle with such limited health and MP. Well, I now have three of the five characters who are going with me to the final boss. I can start power leveling a little more confidently.

Fret not. Kirby Super Star Ultra is coming out on September 29th. So, if you buy FFIV, that'll give you 2 months to save up 4 Kirby! :will:

Bumping this because it is finally out! Woooohoooo! In English, for instance. I am enjoying it immensely! And...

THEY KEPT "YOU SPOONY BARD!"

I love that. But all the voices are awesome so far. Fit the characters. Though that new summon thing Rydia has...is a bit confusing. But I guess it's okay.

YOU BOONY SPARD(a)! <_<

Anyway I just got

Spoiler: Boss spoiler
through the first fiend. He hits hard even with protect. took a while to beat. The first I won with only Cecil so I tried again and won with every one. Cecil defends and uses ethers when needed. Attacking is bad cause the boss will counter it with some spell that will slow you down. Tellah heals after every time the dood attacks. Porom Protect and Slow and then Twincast with Palom. Though I was hoping for the fire one. all I kept getting is Comet which still does about the same damage. I'm not sure when but I think maybe half way he will start to counter ether magic or fire spells. Odd that the final try at him he didn't counter so I guess he counters fire

I just started playing last night and I must say, this game is an excellent remake. Although I am a bit disappointed that this game is not as hard as people keep saying it is. I usually don't spend a lot of time leveling up my characters and yet most of the bosses that I have faced thus far haven't really been that tough, at least not much tougher than the PS1 version.

Bump~ Because I've been playing again recently. After playing through so much of the Japanese version, I kinda had a hard time starting over in English. I like that leveling means so much in this game: Just one or two extra levels can make all the difference in a boss fight. Even if the early part of FFIV DS is easy though, I hear the final part of the game is quite a bitch...

I haven't been able to beat it yet, mostly because I haven't had the time or determination to do the training I'm so clearly going to need for the final area.

I really wanna finish it though... since I never played the original.

FFIV, How I loved this game! I need to finish up the two hidden bosses then I am done. But good lord, Some of the bosses are just plain insane to beat!

For some reason for a day straight, I could not beat Cagnazzo...Then I hasted everyone and suddenly...Cagnazzo only hit me twice......I guess my constant hitting of him made it so he could not hurt me....

Finale......Is.....HARD!!! But I want to The FFIV Sequel over here...But that wont happen...

You guys do know there is a FFIV Sequel for japan only right? I have not really seen you talk about it..

So I got this game on Monday, and I must say, it is HARD!! I couldn't beat Cagnazzo for a while, until I discovered that most bosses were vulnerable to Slow. I'm in the Underworld now, and I'm outside the Tower of Babil. Problem is, I can't survive inside.

There is one enemy (not boss, but random encounter enemy) that seriously screws up my team. I think its name is Flamehound, and it appeared as the Monster-in-a-Box from the Tower of Zot when you got the Flame Sword.

I HATE it I HATE it I HATE IT.
It always attacks my mages, and its scorch attack does damage to the high 500s to every party member, which is uses far too often. I can probably handle one, if my party enters with high HP, but how on earth are you supposed to survive against three?? In the first turn, they inflict 1500 damage, killing every member except Cecil, before you even get a move in!

I don't think I'm underlevelled. My party is at level 37/38 spare the two mages, who are at 33/34 for joining late. Still, I can't get through Babil without being totalled by these Flamehounds, whether I try to escape or not. Is there a strategy you guys use to take on 3 Flamehounds, or do I need to powerlevel?
Spoiler: Do a nice thing today,
Give your computer some love. <3

Levelling is always a good idea if monsters are giving you trouble. I think I was closer to the low 40's at that point. Cecil with Draw Attacks and Counter makes powerlevelling very easy.

That being said, I'm pretty sure the flamehounds are much less common encounters once you get off the first floor (or 13th, whatever.) The ice equipment you get in the Tower helps a lot once you get to it, too.

Thanks a bunch Franzise. Knowing that they appear less the higher up you go really helped. I'm now in the Cave of Eblan, and I must say, that Doctor Lugae fight was so cool, though difficult to get used to the Reversal Gas.

I have a question though. Like FF4 Advance, are all the characters available at the end of the story?

No, you have to use the default team. That's basically why they put the augments in the game; so you can keep your other party members' "powers" even after they leave.

Just in case people wanted to see this sequel (which I hope comes in some shape or form to US and Europe one day),

The game takes place 17 years after the events of FFIV and focuses around Cecil's son. It is fun to see the evolution of certain characters over the course of the years.

Gilbert is Edward in case you got confused if you look at the character pics.
