IMO, one of the more underrated RPGs in America (though it's like the 3rd most popular in Japan)

I like the skits sicne they add more character interaction.

Like most people, Symphonia was my first Tales game but since it was one of the few first RPGs I played I didn't think it was too cliche >_>

I played Phantasia for the GBA, though while it was OK the battle system was too slow. I liked the dubbed OVA!

Legendia had a good story and decent music but the battle system was a bit underwhelming

Abyss is my favorite of the series and one omy favorite games ever. I liked the battle system, characters, music, story, etc. Jade Curtiss is awesome =)

I also imported Destiny PS2 Remake, Destiny 2 (JP), and Rebirth from Japan.

I loved Destinry Remake since it had an awesome battle system and I liked kicking a** with Lilith. Destiny 2 and Rebirth were cool as well.

And I can't wait for Dawn of the New World and Vesperia!

When was the first time you heard an opening with lyrics? And with a girl singing?

Understandable, The first 5-8 hrs were rather rough to get in too. I enjoyed the game a lot. Not so yay about abyss because graphs were bland and ugly and story didnt really intrest me much, also full of glitchs. I dont know if im the only one but I no longer have a world map theme. just plays last areas song.

I have Eternia, Phantasia, Legendia (BAAAAAADDDD GAME on tales standerds) Radient Mythlogy, and the 2nd gba spin off

symphonia was alright, it's just a shame some of the characters were so overpowered and yet some were very poor to use, it quite liked the game but the difficulty seemed to go much lower about half way through, but the amount of secrets in game were quite nice. Haven't even seen any of the others in shops though.

I looove the Tales series. Now, I think actually like it a little better than Final Fantasy. The graphics might not be as amazing, but the battle system is much more exciting and friends can play with you. I'm sick of turn-based FF games...it's gotten so bad that I have an unopened copies of FFIX and FFXII that I don't really feel like playing [even though XII isn't turn-based].

Anywho, Tales of Symphonia's my favorite, but Tales of the Abyss comes close. Jade Curtiss, you're awesome...and Dist. I love Dist! <3 Now if only they could do Squeenix-grade graphics...That'd be so hawt.

I really wish Namco Bandai would release the PSP ports of the games that never made it to the US though... (Destiny 2 & Rebirth)

In order, I've played Phantasia SNES, Destiny, Destiny II/Eternia PSX and Symphonia ... I haven't been able to play any other Tales games ^-^;; Even though I have a PS2 ... haha. And now I can't find Abyss and Legendia.

I don't have a 360, so Vesperia, as hyped up about it I am, is out of my reach at the moment.

I really want Innocence. Too bad they haven't said anything about bringing that over. I'm intrigued by ... er, something, but it's a spoiler xD

I have a Wii, though, so Knight of Ratatosk/Dawn of the New World should be within my grasp.

I think Legendia has its own charms. The backwardness of the battle system probably wouldn't bother me at all.

Speaking of ToS... is it just me, or did the ToS OVA pull a Star Ocean EX? (in other words, did it stop right at the halfway point of the game's plot and decide to end right there?)

Well, Tales of Phantasia was my first game in the Tales of series. The story was really interesting but I didn't really become a fan until I played Tales of Destiny. Destiny was really, really amusing. Lighthearted and fun and yet near the end, the plot becomes surprisingly serious. After a while, I wasn't aware that any other sequels were out so I missed Symphonia. That's pretty much why I don't get why people treat it with so much regard. The next game of the series I played was Legendia, and it pretty much made me cry about 4 times in total. After that game, my standards for any other Tales of games were set pretty high. I expected the next game to be able to carry that kind of story and emotion but then Abyss came and er-- It didn't meet my standards. It felt like a "bishie" fest. I mean, honestly D:

Abyss has a good storyline. And just because there was a 'lack' of females, they still did well. Even though Tear practically becomes the major female role, IMO.

It also had some really amusing skits.

I think Symphonia attracted a lot of fans to the series. I've seen a lot of people who had Symphonia as their first Tales of game and just decided to play the others afterwards. Maybe that's one more thing as to why it's seemingly the most popular Tales of game.

Rhia wrote:

Oh, but I thought the females were pretty balanced in the party. I mean, that's including Ion right? >D

Haha, all the Tales of skits are amusing. I think the skits are one of the most interesting features in the game.

Well, Abyss was filled with too much drama for me. I mean, all the other Tales of games before and after knew how to be funny and light-hearted, becoming serious only at the appropriate times. But Abyss started off with a very angsty main character. Even his leading lady was full of angst. It just felt like everyone was too angry. I think Abyss is the type of game that shines later on, at about mid-story to end, but seeing as how I lost interest early on, I couldn't bring myself to play up to that point. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and start the game again.

Besides Symphonia, I own every other Tales of... game released in the US thus far but I haven't finished any of the games. =( I haven't really played Tales of the Abyss yet and I would be done with Tales of Legendia if my data would have never gotten deleted. Are you including Tales of Destiny+Destiny II(Eternia) when you say that? Symphonia is not the first game released in the US, though I'm not surprised many would believe that.
---------------------
It's funny - I practically worship Phantasia (since about '03), but I didn't realize that Tales of Destiny('98) and Destiny II('01) were part of the series until a year after Symphonia came out('04). I had seen them when they first came out, but Fujishima's art scared me back then (I was about eight. It didn't take a lot) so I didn't pay much attention to them back then.
----------------------------
Aaaah... I want the PAL Tales of Eternia.... but it's $50. I can't afford it. T-T
Stupid international shipping prices.

(Yeah, I could buy the Tales of Destiny II game for the PSX for the same price with cheaper shipping, but I'm a handheld junkie.)

Yep. I own the PSP version of Tales of Eternia because it is much cheaper than buying the PS1 version. The funny thing is that I have been wanting to buy Tales of Destiny ever since it originally came out but the funny thing is that I never ended up buying.
