(ok guys, the topic is now up to start the trial.).

July 7th 10:00am
DIstrict court
Courtroom No 3.

As the crowd gathered in the seats, the judge slammed is gavel to start the trial.
"The court is no in session for the trial of Mr Marques Man Fonne." Said the judge, whilst adjusting his seat in order to get comfy.
"Are the prosecution and Defense ready?"

Edgeworth stood up, straight as a ruler, arms by his side. With barely a glance at the judge, he said, "Half of the prosecution is ready, your honour. As you know, we are testing a two-prosecutor system in this trial. Ms von Karma has not arrived yet, but if necessary we can proceed without her. I wouldn't recommend it, though. I need not remind you that she has her own way of doing things, and is rather... resistant to changes in plans."

A whip crack snapped onto the prosecutor's bench.

"The prosecution...stands prepared." Franziska returned.

Dressed in an olive green suit, Gregory stood behind the defense's bench. His little protege was notably absent. "The defense is ready, Your Honor."

Edgeworth gavea nod. "I'll take care of that, your honour. Ms von Karma may add anything if she wishes." Edgeworth cleared his throat. "To convict someone of a crime, one needs three things: motive, opportunity and decisive evidence. We have the motive - the victim, Ms. Holly Barren, had written a less than favourable review of Mr Man Fonne's prized chicken soup. Whether the defendent wished to silence this critical voice for the future or simply wanted petty revenge is of no concern to me. The resentment is there, enough resentment to form a motive. The opportunity is even clearer - the defendent made his chicken soup for the victim on the night of her death."

Edgeworth folded his arms across his chest as he glanced at the defence attorney opposite him. "Mr Locke, I doubt that even you would object to anything I just said. Therefore, we can skip straight to the matter of decisive evidence, which shall be revealed through the course of today's proceedings." He turned back to face the judge. "By the end of this trial, I believe that we shall prove the defendent guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. If I didn't believe that, then I wouldn't be standing here."

Edgeworth gave a bow. "That is all I have to say for my opening statement, your honour."

Gregory crossed his arms and smirked, knowing full well that attacking the motive and opportunity was an impossible battle. The evidence, however, was another matter entirely. That was the only weapon he had in court.

"The defense attorney does not strike yet." Franziska wondered. Defense attorneys were usually so eager to get their clients found innocent, they would attack anything. One was sensible enough not to do such a thing. This attorney was someone who either played solely by the book, or someone who knew how futile it was to attack the opening statement. This would be refreshing. Of course, this attorney would still be ground under her heel like any other.

Edgeworth glanced at Franziska, half-expecting an amendment to his opening statement. Seeing no sign of one, he proceeded. "Your honour, the prosecution calls Detective Dick Gumshoe to the stand. Detective Gumshoe is, of course, the detective investigating this case."

Franziska returned Edgeworth's glare, as if to say "patience." There was no need to add anything at the moment, taking advantage early, and getting too eager, set up for failure.

"Please state for the court your name and occupation," Edgeworth said. If that judge doesn't know it by now, he never will.

"Yes, your honor." Here goes...

"So, Ms. Barren was murdered around 11:30 pm at Vederos restaurant."

"The cause of death was potassium cyanide poisoning."

"Apparently, the victim got her soup, and took a few spoonfuls."

"About a half-hour later, she slumped over on the table, dead, from the poisoning in the soup."

"The supposed motive was that Mr. Man Fonne was very upset with the last review given by Ms. Barren."

"And that's my story, pal." He waited for the defense to start the cross-examination.

He then banged his gavel and stared at the defense. "Very well, the defense may cross examinate the witness."

:objection:

Greogry spoke quickly and held up a copy of the autopsy report. "Time of death here is two hours earlier." He added, all business, not the chatty, dorky lawyer he was from before. "Explain."

Gregory stared at the detective with the glare he reserved for cheating students. "Well...? If we don't have the accurate facts, we can't find the truth. Testify. Now."

Ka-crack, ka-crack

Franziska's whip smacked right into the detective.

"Detective, if you cannot read a simple report, I will be happy to relieve you of duty. Now, get that befuddled brain of yours wrapped around the case and testify like a real police officer!"
