A Fall and A Rise:Chapter 6 As the man walked towards the District Courthouse, he gave himself a little smile. Phoenix Wright was going to fall, just like he had all those years ago. Death row wasn't pleasant, and he was looking forward to seeing Wright suffer. He fingered the gun in his pocket, and walked through the door. Diego sat on a sofa in the defendant's lobby, gripping his coffee mug like it was made of gold. Mia hadn't arrived, and he was wondering where she was. He took a long drink of coffee, then sat back and closed his eyes. Today, Diego was wearing a new suit that he had bought the previous day. It had a dark blue shirt, with a black waistcoat.
"Mr Armando!" The voice roused Diego from his thoughts. He looked up to see Phoenix Wright walking towards him from the other side of the lobby. Phoenix wasn't wearing his attorney's badge. As he approached he put a hand into his pocket and drew something out of it.
"Hello, Mr Wright. You okay?" Diego didn't sound himself, Phoenix thought. He sounded tired. Phoenix confirmed, judging from the bags under his eyes and the way his mask was loose, that Diego hadn't got much sleep that night. Then again, Phoenix hadn't either. Prison beds wern't exactly comfortable, and he had been too worried to sleep.
Before Phoenix had a chance to reply, somebody yelled at him from the other side of the lobby.
"NICK!!!!" Phoenix turned to see Maya bounding towards him. Diego, anticipating what was about to happen, threw himself off the sofa just in time before Maya rugby tackled Phoenix onto the sofa and landed on top of him. Diego and Phoenix spoke at the same time.
"Maya? What are you doing here?" Then, they looked at each other, confused looks on their faces.
"I thought you needed help in court today, Mr Armando, so I came here!" Maya replied, still pinning Phoenix onto the sofa by sitting on him. When Phoenix tried to shrug her off, she stopped him by reaching into his pocket and removing his mobile phone and wallet with an expression on her face that clearly said," If I go, they go!"
"Maya, no offence meant, but I expected your sister, not you!" Maya's facial expression suddenly drooped, and she slid off Phoenix. Phoenix made a move to retrieve his possessions, and she slapped his hands away.
"I-I can't channel her," Phoenix and Diego's heads snapped around as one. " I tried, I really did, but I couldn't. It doesn't make sense, I've been training and everything, but she isn't there."
Phoenix spoke, a puzzled expression on his face.
"But that means-" Maya finished his sentence for him.
"-Somebody else is channeling my sister, yes." Everybody was silent. Then, the bailiff's voice interupted their thoughts.
" Court is about to begin. Will the defense please proceed to the defense's bench." Without a word, Diego and Maya walked into the courtroom, leaving Phoenix to be escorted in by the bailiffs.
BANG! The sound of the judge's gavel rang throughout the courtroom, making Diego jump. He had been staring intently into the eyes of the prosecutor opposite him.
"Court is now in session for the trial of Mr Phoenix Wright."
"The defense is ready, Your Honour." Diego stated, not diverting his stare from the prosecutor.
"The prosecution is ready, Your Honour." Replied Lana Skye.
