I have no clue how to pronounce Maya or Mia.

At first I thought Mia was pronounced (my-ah) as for Maya (May-ah)

However, alot of people are telling me that Mia is actually pronounced (mee-uh) as Maya is pronouced (my-ah)

I am so confused!! Maya Shock

But why WOULD it be my-a? Why would the a in the word suddenly become silent? I don't think it would.

For the most part, I find that using Spanish vowel pronunciation is used a lot in names, so I stick with that.

A: ah
E: eh
I: ee
O: Shortened 'Oh'
U: oo

The Japanese also pronounce their vowels this way. Although I is occasionally shortened.

I think the best thing to do is just say that since peoples names can easily be interpreted different ways, there is no real answer to this question. :3

Maya - May-ah

Most Germanic (sans English, and it's partly romanic) and Finno-Hungarian language speakers pronounce it that way. And what's annoying, English people tend to mispronounce my real name Ida, which is pronounced Ee-dah, not Ai-dah.
Therefore, I always response "It's EE-DAH, goddamnit!" Butz
(though ai da would be "it's love" on Japanese, so I'm thinking about not minding about it... Bell Boy )

So yeah, I pronounce Mia "Mee-ah".

I say Mee-uh and My-uh. I don't think it should really matter though unless they start having voice actors pronouncing their names. Kinda reminds me of the way people argued about the way Tidus' name was pronounced on FFX. I know its Tee-dus, but I like Tie-dus better.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

...According to Square-Enix, it's pronounced "Tii-da."

As for Phoenix Wright names, I've known both a Mia and a Maya. Mia pronounced her name "Mii-ah" and Maya was "My-ah."

So? Thats the point I'm making, what if they're pronouncing their name differently or incorrectly? Just because someone you know calls themself something doesn't mean its the 'correct' pronunciation. :3 ('Ever watched 'Keeping up Appearances'? Hyacinth Bucket pronounces her surname 'Bouquet' (Boo-Kay))

That's because KH is weird and has Wakka says in KH "Me and Tee-dus" and then in KH II, Selphie in KH says "Ty-dus and Wakka...". JUST TO CONFUSE PEOPLE. D<
I just call him Tee-dus because that's what all the VAs call him in the bonus disc-thing ("Beyond Final Fantasy" maybe?) I got with the game.

Mia was always Mee-ah, but I called Maya May-ah for a while before Zizzo corrected me. So now she's My-ah.

I called Juan "Joo-an" for a while as well. God, I'm so uncultured >.>

Urgh. I'm German, so I always pronounced them neutral.

Maya is Mah-yah.
Mia is Mee-ah.
And Ema is like Emma only with a long E.

I just say it like "Emma". It's less effort :D

So... "Reh-jee-na" or "Reh-jye-na"?

I say 'Reh-je-na' with a shortened ee rather than eh.

Although I have to say, I pronounce Emma and Ema the same way. My grandmother's name was written as Jenifer instead of Jennifer but that didn't mean the pronunciation changed.

I dont even know why Godot's name is pronounced as "God-Oh" with the silent "T" it sounds so odd.

That's because it's a French name, and the "t" at the end is dropped, making it sound like a hanging "oh" sound. I should know: my friend's got a great-grandfather with "Godot" as part of his name.

It's true, when a word in French ends in a consonant, more often than not it is dropped. I still say that the way it's spelled because everyone in English class called it that when referring to the play he was named after.
