I know I kinda started off here as a fanfic writer not necessarily the greatest writer to sweep your guys' doorsteps, but yeah *cough* :yuusaku:
But I've actually done some spriting when I first discovered the sprite sheets here. I've actually unwittingly "sprited" before; I wanted to make little characters for something for a Powerpoint with clip art. Well, I was never satisfied with the clip art I found, so... basically, I did mini spriting :edgy: And, so, here I am!

Basically, I'm a beginner. I'm not a good spriter by any means, and I've never been good any any kind of drawing, painting, etc. type of art. I use MSPaint, but I aquired GIMP (which is where I made my current avatar and edited my current sig—Gregory Wright did my sig originally and I just added some stuff), and so, here is my stuff! Oh, and hopefully you'll see these characters in a fanfic or sprite comic sometime. They have some... strange backstories that I may or may not explain here.

Yikes, I am SUCH a writer at heart! Okay, now for the art! They're in order of what I created first, second, etc.

Naoki Maeda

She's 16 during GS4 and is good friends with Pearl. Naoki is a spirit medium-in-training at the Kurain Channeling Dojo. 'Naoki' in Japanese is 'honest tree', since she's a defendent in a case I'm planning. While 'Naoki' is more of a male name (it's unisex, but more males have it), she's actually more reserved and, as her classmates put it, "feels more comfortable talking with trees than with people". However, she's got a rather good reason for being so reserved. See the necklace? It's got a strange power that none of the spirit mediums have ever seen before ((in my version of Kurain GS4, I said that Maya accumulated some sort of Council of Elders, you could say. They're from branches that came to help out the new master)). She cares very much for her brother, Tetsuo, and they are orphans. However, it is rumored that her mother is a Fey branch member that a long time ago, distanced herself from the Kurain Village. The last living relative of this Fey Branch was Kazuko Fey, married to Atsushi Maeda. Both, according to records, are dead. Naoki actually has some ample amount of spiritual power, but it's her necklace that holds the greatest and terrible power inside of her...

Spoiler: Author's Thoughts
Honestly, I thought the name "Naoki" just kinda fit the character I created with Adrian's head, Vera's eyes (totally reformed, and crappy looking), Alita's mouth, and Iris's body. Oh, I also used that Gramarye stamp that had Thalassa's braids. I had to reform it, so it looks... weird. I know, I don't have the bow sticking out... I didn't really like that when the girls had that, so I changed it. I always thought that part of the obi was behind... but I guess I don't really know, do I? Maeda was a family name prominent in the Tokugawa-Shogunate era. I used the name because a) it sounds cool, b) I know very little about the members, and it's kinda cool and c) I saw their gardens when I went to Japan... breathtaking.
If you're honestly that interested in Naoki's necklace, I'll let ya'll know, but it's long, and incredibly... weird. She has other poses, and I've made her talk, but if anyone can tell me how to post animations onto Photobucket, I'll show her animated


Tetsuo Maeda
Image Image HELP ME!!! This needs so much work, it's not even funny! I have no idea how to do folds of sleeves; if someone could help me, please pm me!!! And blinking eyes are weird, too.

He is around 22 or 23 in GS4 timeline. Tetsuo is a defense attorney that met Apollo when he let himself get taken into the same orphange. When he was around seven, he was seen at the Kurain Village holding his baby sister. He begged the priestesses to take her and let him come see her whenever he wanted; after that, he walked all the way to the nearest orphanage. He and Apollo became very fast friends. In fact, the parents that adopted the boys happened to be neighbors, so even during and after school, the boys could see each other. Both wanted to become defense attorneys, and Tetsuo even worked at Gavin Law Firm. After that, though, his whereabouts are slightly unknown, as Apollo lost contact with him.
Tetsuo is rather more "free-willed". While he was very intelligent, he and Apollo often did skip their studies in college (they graduated, of course ;)). Surprisingly, Apollo was the more 'hard-working' one of the duo. 'Tetsuo' means 'clear-thinker' or 'iron man', which is kind of a joke, because while Tetsuo is a decent lawyer, he sometimes can have his mind clouded with other concerns... and wants (he can be a flirt at times). He's very overprotective of his sister and is constantly worried about her safety, especially when he realizes what the necklace actually does. He trusts Maya inexplicably, since technically, they are cousins. He can be rather cocky about his work, but in the end, he's a very nice and likable guy that usually reacts first when the world comes crashing.

Spoiler: Author's Thoughts
This guy was absolutely TORTURE to make. First, I had to find all those color substitutes for Apollo's suit, which is why it looks like CRAP. And yes, his eyes are very bright blue. Also, not pictured here, he has a bracelet that has many bright blue gems on it. You'll see it in his other poses. Oh, yeah, his other poses, I had to change the hair since I used young Edgy's hair. I would have used older Edgy, but the head was disproportionate! Go figure! Also, a current running gag about this guy is that he thinks he should have been named "Tatsuo", means dragon man, because he believes he "scorches the battlefield of law" whenever he's the defense attorney. He's rather good, and more confident in his abilities than Apollo is. He actually did his first case before Apollo, and assured him that it would be a piece of cake, "Mr. Gavin will take care of everything." Well, he felt awful after.


Hikari Yuma

Okay, which one looks better? I tried what I could....

Hikari is around 24 in GS4. Not much is known about her, but Tetsuo really likes her and tries whenever he can to make sure she'll be prosecuting. However, she is actually good at what she does. Currently, Hikari has a sort of 'Jerkworth' complex—she hates criminals and believes that whoever the police caught are the people who should be in jail. However, she doesn't attempt to tamper evidence and she doesn't care much about her record. Tetsuo was actually the first person that she ever conceded to in a trial (around his third case). She's more comfortable with losing, as long as the correct criminal is in jail. However, she's constantly struggling with the idea that the police do give her the incorrect criminals. Her father used to be a police officer, and during one rather 'hush-hush' case, he tried to arrest who he thought was the murderer to the case. Well, the prosecutor did a rather shoddy job and the attorney didn't, so the murderer was freed. Hikari, as a young girl, was angry at this injustice, especially since her father conveniently "disappeared" the day after the man's aquittal... Hikari means ((I think)) 'light-bringer' since she is known to try to reveal what she believes is the whole truth to the judge. It's also kind of a "joke" since she never likes hearing that the police will send her the wrong criminal and she ends up judging an innocent person.

I actually just made up her history right on the spot! Aren't I good? lol, just kidding. I did have something like that in mind before, but I just fleshed it out a wee bit right there. She's one of my favorites; I think I did a good job. The red pendant and the blue v-n was totally hand drawn. I used Lana's head, Adrian's eyes and shirt, and Mia's body and lips (though that is subject to change). I'm kind of stuck on her poses (I only have one and a half) since Mia doesn't really change... you get the idea. I'm also kind of stuck as to how I'm going to do her court poses, but I realized that I could use Ema's hair, so that helps...


This is something I created, using that one picture from 3-5. I'll show both so you can see the changes. I actually like the result. It's supposed to be what someone witnessed Naoki do...

Leiko Oda

Leiko, to put it simply, is rude, obnoxious, and conceited. She's an older student at the Kurain Village. Her mother died when she was younger, and her father was never in her life. So, Leiko was raised by her aunt ((name not decided)) who is the victim in my case. She never really got along with her aunt and only liked her because of the status Leiko felt like she earned from it. Otherwise, she doesn't feel that much remorse over her aunt's death. At least, not outwardly. Her name perfectly matches her—arrogant. She is convinced of Naoki's guilt and often calls her Kumiko, which, according to one website I found, means "child with braids". Leiko uses this name, though, as an insult, and also as a rude reminder of her mother (Kazuko) which matches it slightly. She doesn't believe that Naoki is related to the Feys, and is secretly jealous of the necklace Naoki has (she knows of its power). Even though Leiko puts on a very rude front and puts on airs about herself, she's actually quite meek and weak. She highly distrusts men and often is seen picking on them more than the girls. But this is not only because her father left her mother, but it's also because she's quite shy around them and isn't sure what to do with her sudden attraction to Tetsuo.

Spoiler: Author's Thoughts
I think it's obvious I used Iris here, but I also used Alita's hair. However, when I upload her other poses, you'll see that I had to edit the hair. Alita has her hair in a part, but the back is straight. I didn't like that, so I had to create a part throughout Leiko's hair. I know the hair color looks weird, but it's difficult to change black hair to a different color. I wanted an annoying person in my case—someone that you just want to be gone. So, when I found the name Leiko, I didn't care that that probably wasn't the correct translation; I just took it ;p. Also, her last name is Oda because a) it keeps up with the whole Warring States Period famous names and b) Oda Nobunaga was a famous dictator-like ruler who was known to be pretty ruthless and prideful. Perfect, right?


I also did some editing of Vera. I liked her character, but I didn't like her outfit. Don't get me wrong; it fit her character, but I wanted her to wear something different. Also, because she's going to be part of this Turnabout Case... let's just say all Apollo/Vera fans are going to love me :keiko:

I'll hopefully have the characters' small sprite sheets up soon. Note the word small. I also have other characters, I'll put those up sometime. So, if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. Just please, please be kind and constructive. I know these don't look that good, so any help is nice. Um... I know this might open a can of worms, but... I can attempt requests... but I'm not sure if you guys will want any from me

Caelestis is around 22, well, this depends on the timeline. I don't have her part of any "canon" storyline. She's quite persistent in her work and has a sharp eye for details. Unfortunately, this can get to the better of her as sometimes she's inclined to point out somethings about someone without the intention of sounding rude (i.e. "Mr. Smith, next time you come to work, you probably don't want to go through the back way with all the mud. I know you're worried about being late, but please..." and this was inferred because Mr. Smith had mud on his shoes). She's overall quite complaisant and always tries to impress people; she's one of those "make everyone happy" types. But is quite awkward around people and is usually very particular about certain things (her workplace is meticulously neat). She feels very humiliated whenever she embarrasses herself, like when she inevitably trips with her high-heeled shoes. She finds it hard to make small chat, but she's tried. Caelestis enjoys her job very much

Spoiler: Author's Thoughts
Caelestis means "heavenly" and Atra means "dark" or "black". They're kinda supposed to be opposites in a way, but the Latin word for "darkness" was too strange for a last name, so here's Atra! If I became a detective when I'm older, I could see myself as her... well, except for the "awkward around people" thing; I'm pretty good around people. She does have a background where a certain case changed her; but it's probably going to be affected by this RP I'm part of, so I can't fully explain it yet (*cough*alsohaven'ttotallyfigureditoutyet*cough*). And yes, I know her head is a wee bit big for her body, but it was the best I could manage.

Very nice work so far. You're quite creative. I'd say, for the Hikari Yuma sprite, have more distinction in the seams of her jacket, and a stronger separating line between the jacket and the shirt. That should help am little. :jake:

Creative in what way? The sprites themselves or their backstories? :gregory:

Seams in her jacket? I'm a little confused. You mean, like, the area where her shoulders are?
Seperating line... I see what you're talking about. I'll see what I can do. This sprite was difficult to recolor because it was originally blackish, so I had to add the sleeve line myself; it wasn't included :meekins:

New sprites up! I have the annoying Leiko Oda and some Reformed Vera. The Reformed Vera was a little hastly done, so I'll have to go over it. :maggy:

All were so good and Tetsuo was my favourite.
There is only two thing I would edit.
1. Add some lines in Hikaris costume
2. Move Naokis eyes one or two pixels longer from eachothers

Thanks for the help. I'll try to work on those. I have a little bit of Hikari fixed, but it's not up yet.

In the meantime, I'm participating in my first CR RP, and because I didn't want to use my OC's, I made up one using my screenname. I know, original, but I couldn't help it.

Yes, that is hair :will: It was supposed to be a single strand of silver hair that was in a braid, but I don't know how to create a tiny braid... :godot:

You certainly don't start small, do you? Very impressive for someone's first sprites. Or have you already done sprites for other games, too? Starting off with DS-quality sprites is no small task.

Lol :bellboy: No, I had an idea in my head with what I wanted my first character to look like... and I did it, I guess. I was on here a couple of months ago, when I was very new, and asked someone for the Grammarye stamp (I didn't realize that that's what the media section was for), because I knew I wanted Naoki to have braids.

I've never officially done spriting before. I've edited clip-art pictures, but that doesn't entail shading, correct color, etc. like this does. So.. yeah, I'm simply a beginner. :edgy:

Double post! *shot*

Anyway, I have some new stuff for old OC's. I need some major help on them, so any help is appreciated.

And no, I do not know why that white line is appearing under Naoki... *groans* Ugh, what's annoying is that I have all these names organized for them, and whenever I mess up, I can't fix and repost; for whatever reason, when I try to put the img link up on here, it shows up the old picture! Even though I fixed it, saved it, and Photobucket has the new picture on it!!! Ugh, enough ranting... me very annoyed... :grey:

Also, which looks better for Hikari? The difference may not be super obvious to some, but to those who've posted on here, you'll see it.

I prefer the suit on the one on the left, but with the hand of the one on the right. Have you considered using the arm outline color of the one of the left to anti-alias the one on the right? I love her face, though.

As for the problem with the images not updating: When you check the forums, have you tried pushing CTRL+F5? That will refresh the page without loading from your temporary internet files. The non-updated images thing happens to me all the time, it's because your computer is loading the page from your cache.

I'm not sure if I completely understand you, but let's see if I'm making sense...

The outline I used on the right picture is the color that's used to outline her right arm in both of those images. I think that's what you suggested...

Ah, at least it's a solvable problem. I thought that that might be the issue, but I wasn't positive; I was only seeing the preview and didn't want to chance a mistake on my very first post. Thanks... so all I need to do is refresh the page... (I'm assuming that's what ctrl+f5 is, right?)

Oh, just for fun, you know how whenever people say something that they deem is kinda stupid, they put "*shot*" at the end of their sentence? I thought it would be funny if there was a "smiley" of that.

I mean, where her left upper arm is against her chest. That part of the outline is darker on the left sprite than it is on the right.
Also, her left hand. That was the only one you changed, right? n_n'

And, yes, CTRL+F5 just refreshes the page. =3 That should solve the problem. I hope that helps! <3


I love that smiley. XD The timing seems fine to me, I don't see it being off at all.

Might I suggest giving Ms. Yuma's lips a lighter color? They stand out, and--in my opinion--not in a good way.

Thinking about it, I guess it didn't stand out as much as I thought. The eyes look off-center, though. Then again, the eyes as a whole bother me. If there's anything else, I can't lay my finger on it.

I'm using Adrian's eyes and glasses. Very difficult to work with; I had to copy her right eye twice :sadshoe: I would change the coloring, but Adrian's color scheme is very difficult to work with. I'm trying to think of who else has glasses with eyes that I could use...

Does this look okay? You will probably have to refresh your page in order to see any difference. It's very slight.

I don't know; her eyes seem too narrow to me, now, but perhaps that's because I'm so used to seeing them the other way, it looks weird to me now... :yuusaku:
