I'm pretty sure there's a Star Ocean 3 topic somewhere, but this for all the games!

I loved Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3 was pretty good, but I never bothered to train for those post-game option dungeons

I can't wait to get First Departure and Second Evolution for PSP, and Star Ocean 4 for the 360!

Oh, I liked Start Ocean II. It was my first Star Ocean game anyway. Plus it was the first game where I thought the battle system was unique, since other RPG's I play are turn based.

And I never finished III yet, but I plan on it sometime in the future. All in all it's a good series!

The only Star Ocean game I've played was 3, and still haven't finished it.
I don't think I've played it in two years actually :beef:

I forgot what part I was even up to. I think I was fighting in some temple with some crystal monsters. I can't remember :oops:

EDIT: It was this part. http://youtube.com/watch?v=1HsBtS6fWSk&feature=related
I can't beat that thing and now my PS2 crapped out so I can't even play the game. :chinami:

I've played both SO2 and SO3 but I haven't finished yet. SO2 I must say is possibly the hardest RPG I have ever played in a long time.

Spoiler:
Fighting each of the 10 Wise Men is such a pain in the butt.

As for SO3 I am currently on disc 2...somewhere I forgot. I really need to get the two games back from my friend so I can finish them.

How come no one has ever played that original Star Ocean in SNES? That was pretty much my one and only Star Ocean game xD;
It was really obvious that the one who created it was the Tales of Phantasia group, but it was still really distinct from their previous game.

oh, tri-ace... where would we be without your nifty battle systems...
it's nice to know people know their RPG stuff...

I only played the first and second one. I actually tried completing the bonus dungeon in SO2 only to have the floor wiped by my rear by the boss there... Celestia.. something-or-other. That's when I never touched it again...

remembering SO2 made me want to dig up some of those horrible voice clips... like this one... remember the Decus/Vesper fight? :|

I hope you aren't saying that cause everyone in that game has a tail. Or are you saying that because it STARTS OUT as a button masher. Maybe you haven't given it enough time, I dunno. I dunno why you would say that, have you played the origonal version? I haven't gotten very far, but I like it from what I've played. ...although yeah, at first you're basically mashing buttons, but it gets better.

I enjoyed Star Ocean 1, and it's the only game in the series I've somewhat played. I LOVED all the Star Trek references littered through the prologue. The Plot and Characters were good, the non-linearity was also amazingly executed.

But, there was one MAJOR problem that prevented me from continuing.

The MAP is linear. That wouldn't be so bad, except there is a LOT of trekking back and forth in the game, and without some sort of useful transportation system and tons of random battles, the game gets repetitive in the wrong ways. I mean, yes there are ships, but if I remember correctly, it was only one way!

Some day I aught to go back and beat it, but augh!

Er, I have to disagree with you there. I honestly enjoyed playing the first Star Ocean. I mean, other than the gameplay, the story itself was pretty interesting. I'm not sure why you dislike it so much though > u <;

And I didn't realize that the first Star Ocean game was never released outside of Japan. Too bad, it's a pretty fun game.

I've only ever played Till the End of Time, which I found out was the third game in the seires after I beat it. I've heard something about the first two being released for the PSP, are they ports or a they remakes?

Anyway, SO3 started out pretty fun all around, except Sophia annoyed me (most characters like her usually do). After a while I found the story tended to drag on and on. A lot of characters were rather cliche' too, though I suppose that isn't always a bad thing.
What bothered me the most was this. With a game in which space travel is a central theme...
Spoiler:
...there would have been much more of it. I never wanted to see Elicoor II again once I finally got out of there. I wouldn't have kept playing if I had to go through another mine!

The games best feature was definetly the battle system. It was what kept me playing. And the chance for different endings was a fun idea, though I never go the one I wanted.
