Yes, I know, it sounds like a stupid question. "Geeze, MoronSonOfBoron, everyone knows Franziska has an older sister!" It's listed in Court-Records.net's character profiles, and most people I've talked to take it as fact.

But as a responsible AA/GS fan, I want to be presented with clear, solid in-game evidence.* My challenge to you, dear reader, is to point me to the specific case and conversation in JFA where Franziska (or anyone for that matter) mentions, specifically and explicitly, the elder von Karma daughter.

I have scoured what few scripts are online, and having just finished playing through 1-4 again, I have little wish to subject myself to more note-taking so soon. I wish to be aided on this matter as soon as possible, before I regain the energy to do it myself.

Spoiler: *
It is with a mote of irony that my real reason for investigating this matter is for the purposes of supplementing several pieces of fanfiction I am working on, which will delve into much speculation and purely hypothetical situations concerning the von Karma family.

Other than the thing where Karma says he has a niece in 1-4, they've never mentioned her in the game. I think it just said in an artbook that she has an older sister.

Actually, it was the GS2 fanbook that said that. DX

Specifically, it's this page of the GS2 Book.

Q. Siblings?

A. I have an older sister with a family. She has a child and a dog named Ryu.

Q. Lover?

A. I don't need one. Do you have a problem with that?

That second one isn't related to your question but it's still funny :D

I spent an entire night transliterating the OTHER page, and was too tired to look into that one. ;_;

Oh, Expanded Universe, you are my bane.

Fun Facts: By my calculations, Manfred von Karma would have been approximately 38 years of age, at the oldest, when this elder daughter was born. This places a solid 9 year gap between Franziska and her elder sister.

One has to wonder what kind of woman their mother was, to have put up with Manfred for at least 9 years (assuming, of course, there isn't some terribly dysfunctional background we're not seeing here).

Is there a place where we can view the translated version of these pages? I'd love to see what they all say.

If I may quote Mr. von Karma....

:karma: "My granddaughter has a dog she calls Phoenix. Does that mean you're her fiancee?"

Since Franziska is too young to have been married with children by then...

Oh, so it's expanded universe canon then. All this time I thought I'd just ignored some part of game dialogue where the subject of said older sister was brought up only to never be mentioned again.

And now I definitely want to see that translated-to-English encyclopedia, to see what else I'm missing out on.

So Von Karma had Franz at..

Um...

48-50?

By that time, most parents have teenagers, not new babies. Franz can easily be the granddaughter he was talking about.

Yes, some are. It's really up to whether or not they're physically capable of doing it. If Manfred had a younger wife, I can see that happening.

That does bring up an interesting point. Lets think about this logically shall we? At the time on case 1-4, Franziska was 16-17 (early birthday could make her 17). Now Phoenix is a generally hard word to say for a 2-4 year old. Assuming the child was 5, Franziska would have to be 11-12 to have the granddaughter in question. It is possible for a women to have a child at 12 (but utterly wrong IMO).

However we have to bring up another point. Franziska hates men. Now she may have roots of an older man...well lets just say the older man is the reason Franziska would have a baby in an unpleasant way. That could be the root of her hatred towards men. Pure speculation but a chance.

Seeing all this, it's more than likely, and actually is almost definitely true that Franziska had an older sister. Zvarri!

And that hits the nail on the head.

END OF DISCUSSION!

MoronSonofBoron, you said you played thru 1-4 and couldn't find where they talked about Franny's sibling. And in case you can't find that line, that line was said when
Spoiler: 1-4 spoiler
They were cross-examining Yanni Yogi and Phoenix points out that his parrot and his fiancee are both named Polly.

:objection:
Manfred von Karma only explicitly states that he has a granddaughter. This gives no indication as to the identity of Manfred's own child. In fact, this is the very line you quoted just now. Care to explain this contradiction? :karma:

In any case, I think at this point in time it's safe to say that most people have had the idea of Franziska being the younger of two sisters ingrained in their heads. Mind you, aside from the art book cited earlier in this thread, there is no identifying factor for this mysterious elder sibling. What if Franziska had an elder biological brother, instead? Can we see any possible changes or explanations for other parts of her character stemming from her possible sibling relationships?

How would this elder sibling affect her perception of men, perhaps?

Well, the artbook says she has an elder sister, but I don't know how canon the artbook is. This is why I wish someone would translate the artbook or they would release it in other countries.

The game only implies that von Karma had another kid. So, I guess if the artbook isn't canon, Fran could have a brother (or a child 0_0) in the games...

When my mom was pregnant, Dad kept pushing her down, so she couldn't get up. Then he would call her a turtle.

Let's imagine someone doing this to Franzy.

That is so disturbing words cannot describe just how effed up it is.

Back on topic: In my headcanon, Franziska's sister and niece are the same age difference to her as Mia and Pearl are to Maya (JFA: 28, 18, 8).

I often wonder if Franziska's niece will somehow make an appearance in the next GS game. Probably not as a prosecutor (too cliche), but relating to a case in some form or fashion.

Argh! Now I´m confused...
So, whatever:
Spoiler:
In the cross-examination of Yanni Yogi in the 4 case of the first game, you must proove that the old man is really Yanni Yogi. So, the prove: Yanni Yogis parrot is named Polly. His fiancee´s name was Polly too!
Of course Von Karma objects... And there we go: "That prooves nothing. My granddaughter has a dog named Phoenix. Does that mean you´re my granddaughter´s fiancee? She´s only seven!"

So, he could have a son too, but the fanbook says he has two daughters.
And, no, Franzi isn´t his granddaughter. If that´s the case, JFA would take place 11 years after AA:PW!
And that´s not the case. Look at the age of Maya, for example.
And the granddaughter can´t be Franzi´s daughter! Or do you think she got pregnant with 10?

Heh. I think this entire situation is just a case of the writers not thinking "Hey let's introduce Manfred von Karma's teenage daughter in the second game!" when they wrote the first one. Then once she existed and that line was pointed out, they had to create a mention of that sibling in the art book to appease the fans.

Amusing how these things work out, isn't it? :keiko:

Thread necromancy for more mathwork.

This table shows the von Karma family's ages up to the events of 1-4. Minimum ages for the mother and elder sibling are based on the ages given for their respective children, assuming a modicum of sensibility when it comes to Manfred von Karma's spawning habits.
Code:
Manfred   65  58  48  40
Mother    ??  ??  26  18
Sibling   25  18   8   0
Fran      17  10   0
Grandkid   7   0

These calculations assume that they have the same mother. Their mother would have been anywhere from 18 to 32 years old when she gave birth to the elder sibling, assuming an upper limit of 40 for Franziska's birth.

Franzy does have an older sister, and her name, for now, is Keygirl.

*SPECULATION! SPECULATION! SPECULATION!* XD I don't even actually believe that, it was just too tempting to say it.

Also...erm...forgive me for this. A bit of fangirl...playing around with options.

Manfred says he has 'a granddaughter.' And Edgey is technically his son.

So....

Miles could have a daughter running around out there that we don't know about? :O

Hahaha, it's just a fun thought.

You do realise that what you jsut said could change some things?

Par Exemple, how old would Edgey be, along with the res of the family?

Code:
Manfred   65  58  48  40
Mother    43  36  26  18
Sibling   25  18   8   0
Fran      17  10   0
Grandkid   7   0

Now, let's add Edgey...

Code:
Manfred   65  58  48  40
Mother    43  36  26  18
Sibling   25  18   8   0
Edgey     24  17   7
Fran      17  10   0
Grandkid   7   0

So, if Edgey was 17 when the Grandkid was born...

HOLY JEHOSEPHAT!

THERE COULD BE 2 VON KARMA GRANDKIDS RUNNING AROUND!

:objection:

Now, this is where I must contradict myself.

If Edgey had a kid, he'd need someone to have it with.

Where is this supposed wife?

:objection:

The mother could be Keygirl! Do I have any evidence to contradict that?

As for me, I WANT the mother to be Keygirl. XD But no one has ANY idea, so...
