Trial: JL-08 (Turnabout Regrets)

The weather outside was terible. Forecast to rain all day. how much more gloomy can you get. Well it was about to get a hell of alot more gloomier. The trial for today was the State v.s Richard McEwan. Things couldn't be worse but saldy it does, the defendant was being charged with murder. People come through the revolving doors completely soacked and try to dry off for there own Court cases they were attending that day. Ouside of Lounge 3 awaited this trial and all it's people waiting to enter are all gathered in this Lounge. Especially are the Defendant and his Defense and of course the Prosecution. Egarly and afraid. Waiting to enter the room. In the meantime the discussion between all the acting parties begins.

Victoria walked into the Defense Lobby hesitantly. She was wrapped in two hoodies, a rain jacket, a thick scarf, and a beanie pulled down over her face. Not to keep the rain out, but to keep anyone from recognizing her. If anyone she knew were to find her here, she would be dead meat. Her social status would plummet if anyone that was anyone saw her, Victoria O'Shea, teen queen, at a courtroom. This was her first time at a real trial. She was to be assisting the defense attorney, some young Hapanese hotshot. She unwound her scarf, removed her beanie, and took off her coat. She looked around nervously. Where was that lawyer?

Kureno walked in to the defendant's lobby calmly and coolly, tightening his tie and fixing the collar on his black suit. He didn't look nervous, but don't let that fool you in to thinking otherwise. It was his first trial, after all. And a murder trial too. He had every reason to be nervous. He saw the girl trying to stay out of sight. Might as well introduce myself... "Hi there, my name is Kureno Sakamoto, I'm the defense attorney for this trial. I was assigned an assistant, but I can't seem to find her. Have you seen her?" he asked, trying not to let his nervousness show.

Victoria's jaw dropped open. This was the lawyer? He looked like a model! Victoria smiled her megawatt smile. "I'm Victoria O'Shea!" She grabbed his hand to shake it, holding onto it for a little longer then neccessary. "I'm gonna be your assistant!" She smiled again. Wait until her friends heard about this!

"Well, the basics are that a woman was found dead in her apartment. They arrested Mr. Richard McEwan on suspicion of murder. He chose me as his DA because he had heard of my success in Japan prior to my move, apparently. Anyway, she died of suffocation."

Monika headed into the prosecutors' lobby, looking for the prosecutor for this case. My first time in court... Next time, I'll be the main prosecutor, I hope! She adjusted the glasses that sat atop her head; they were meant for reading and examining things up close. She felt guilty that her dog Phoenix couldn't be here; no dogs were allowed in the courthouse.

Although Dr. Jason Reed was sitting quite calmly in his chair, he was anything but on the inside. He and Rich had been friends forever, and now, he was on trial. For murder. Of Michelle. There was no way.

"No chance in hell!" Jason thought angrily. "Whoever said he did it is just making it up. Just want the police to look good."

He hoped Rich had a great lawyer. Reed knew nothing about law, but, like all professions, there had to be mavericks and godsends, right?

(The prosecutor is Locke_Alvein. A mate of mine who i'm intrigued to see how the case plays out. He doesn't know anything obvioulsy to keep things fair. Like i said before. A battle of wits and persuation.)

((What evidence do I know about as detective?))

Rereading the case file for the fourteenth time, Naomi calmly sat in the prosecution lobby as the detective in charge of the case. It seemed rather open-and-shut at first glance, and for the life of her, she never knew why some defenses even defended their clients...

Then she remembered why...Kureno Sakomoto was another one of those attorneys. She got a terrible taste in her mouth, which she suppressed and swallowed, waiting for the trial to begin.

Monika looked around, but didn't find the head prosecutor. She sat down near Naomi and skimmed through her copy of the case file. It couldn't be more obvious the guy's guilty. I mean, there's evidence piled up against him, and he doesn't have an alibi...

Aiden Lance a prosecutor of legends. His 17 year long career has resulted in hundreds of convictions secured by building cases through solid evidence, reliable testimony and perfect arguments. His name inspires terror into defense attorneys hearts. Luckily for me he was rushed into hospital late last night with severe abdominal pains. Being a rookie having only passed the bar exam a few months ago meant that I hadn't been the Lead prosecutor for any cases yet. It couldn't be passed on to anyone more experience because the office has prioritized a high profile case involving a serial killer. Lucky for me. But then again the defense lawyer is some big shot from japan. But then again the case is pretty solid. Although I'm concerned having not being present for the investigation meaning that I've only seen half the picture. i went over as much of the investigative reports as i could the night before. Well the lead detective on the case will be present today so i can fill in any details then. Ive been at a few trails before but this feeling of dread is more intense, This time i dont have anyone to fall back on, no one to take responsibility when the case goes bad. Well better hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I entered the court house through the big double doors and signed in at the main desk. Lincoln Rarey. I always hated my handwriting. Looks more like a child scrawl. I headed towards the lobby and upon entering the room gazed at a large group of people. Seems like i was last to arrive. I looked around for my assistant. Very much a pointless endeavor as i didn't know what she looked like. I hoped that she would be alot more clued up than i am.

"Mister! I don't look that old do I? Im only 19!" Lincoln answered slightly embarrassed. He immediately regretted divulging that piece of information. People didn't take him that seriously when they found out how young he was. His decisions were always a bit rash. He moved out os the US to study law in Scotland but finished up after only 2 years instead of the usual 4 so only got the degree and did not do his honor years.
He figured he should make an attempt to socialize. "Call me Linc. Monika Von Karma right?" The name sounded familiar.

"Oh right I though you were older." He looked a her again and realized she was very young it was the eyes that were older probably holding some kind of tragedy. She was also kind of cute. He wondered again where he had heard he name von karma before.
"The case itself seems to be built upon very good physical evidence which is lucky for us. Unfortunately we have to deal with a renowned defense attorney so we he must have something case breaking up his sleeve for someone that good to take a case this solid."
He looked at his watch a cheap batman watch. He'd had it since he was 7 ,he didn't keep it for good luck or anything it just had sentimental value. He then took it off his wrist and shoved it in his pocket. wouldn't be fitting to wear it to court. It would be time to begin very soon.

He nodded solemnly in return. What could he say he just broke one of the cardinal rules of prosecution. "To have complete confidence and in every person in every investigation or else no one can count on you." That brought back memories of his dad had been a cop and often sat him down and told him stories of being a cop.

He noted that the case file the detective had been reading was well worn so it seems she had gone over it many times. It would be a excellent advantage to have a detective testifying that knew the case this well. He then turned to the detective and asked "What do you know about the defense attorney for this case?"

"And I know he'll be eating you for breakfast if you don't shape up. I didn't prepare this case and examine that crime scene just so the case can be won by lawyers instead of evidence."

Cant she cut me a little slack he thought. Everyone has to start somewhere. So in a lame attempt to reassure her he said in his best lawyerly voice."Don't worry I wont let that happen. Ill make sure he goes down for this and I wont let any defense attorney get in my way!" He lowered his voice at the last part though just in case he might hear him.

Adam ran in, thinking he was late for the trial, but he saw the defence lawyer (Not looking at the others) and just began to calm down, still a bit nervous though. This was his first time in a trial, even though he'd only be claiming what he saw. Agh! Why am I so nervous... I can do this! He sat down in an empty chair and began to clear his mind to meditate. He did'nt really need to talk to anyone right now, just relax and think.

She opened her eyes and stared at the prosecutor with an intense, cold stare, the kind she usually saved only for intimidating confessions. "Really?!" She raised her voice for the first time, seeing how he'd react to an intimidation from his own witness.

Lincoln suddenly had the urge to completely divulge all off his inner most secrets. He resisited the urge as much as possible and answered quickly with a "yes". He hoped his unconfidence would bve masked by this. It then occured to him that she was his witness and he shouldnt be showing weakness to anyone never mind her. "I mean HELL YEAH I will!". He retorted with as much cockiness as he could muster. He then realised this might actually awaken the beast so he quickly shut his mouth to prevent any more foolish outburst. He hoped the trial would start just so he could avoid any more interogation fomr the witness.
