Klavier and Kristoph's "Objection"

Last time I checked, they were German, what were the localization teams thinking?

I know that some red necks that were playing this game would've been like,

"What're these daggum Japs thinkin adding diversity to these daggum vidja games? If I wanted diversity.I wouldn't be living in this hell hole called the south"

At least thats why I think they didn't make them have accents.

It sucks when localizations have to make sacrifices such as these to make the game appeal to the more close minded Americans :yuusaku:

It's a bit difficult to detect an accent in one word, especially at the speed they play it at in the game.

I disliked their objections, but for a different reason. I don't care if they didn't have accents (after all, Franziska is German, and she doesn't have a German accent); I just thought they could've done better... uh... objecting. Kristoph's was okay, and somewhat in a mocking tone, which suits him. Klavier's, however, was just a shout. You'd think it'd be badass or something; instead, it's a bit annoying.

And I'm not so sure German accents would've offended many American fans, anyway. Jean Armstrong had a French accent, didn't he? (Except he had no voice clips...)

So... yeah.

XD Good point, and I'm sure he would've offended them for....other reasons :will:

But you're right,Klavier is a beast,so he deserves a voice that makes him sound like one.

On another note, was it even necessary for Kristoph to have a voice clip?

He didn't even defend,if they gave him one,why couldn't they give all the other characters that shouted "Objection" a voice clip?

I would've loved to heard Wocky's :gant:

I didn't think Kristoph and Klavier's objections were that good, but I didn't think that Apollo's were too good either, so I didn't really mind (at least they were all bad, not just one or two)

You didn't like Apollo's?

I liked his,it sounded more human and fitting to him than Phoenix's did.

Phoenix's seemed way too over the top and too high pitched, judging from his character,I wouldn't imagine his actual speaking voice to sound anything like that.

Apollo's fit his character and had true emotion.

What exactly does a German accent sound like? Because all the people I've met from Germany that spoke fluent English didn't really sound like the fake kinds of German accents you see on TV.

If anything they had a bit of an English accent, actually, but that would be because, you know, they learned English in Europe. If Kristoph and Klavier have been living in America a good portion of their lives, I wouldn't think it's strange that they sound rather normal.

Even so, Klavier always sounded like he had a bit of an accent to me anyway, but its a bit hard to tell with just one word. After all, no one noticed that Edgeworth had a British accent until his "Take That!".

Francizka, Manfred, and Kristoph I can understand. But Klavier uses so many German words, I would really expect him to have the accent.

Fransizka moved to America when she was young or something didnt she?
What does 'Fraulien' mean? (Klavier often says that), 'young girl' or something? In German, 'Frau' is like Mrs I thought.

Klavier's objection did strike me as off. While I've never thought of him as actually being German and having an accent he was always saying German stuff, so it made it seem like he should.

I admit that Klavier's objection was a bit weak but it's not like he'd have such a thick accent that you could detect it in just one word.

I think that Klavier's objection was OK and suited him, but Kristoph's was awful. Even Payne's sounds better in comparison.

I like Kristoph's objection. It seems a bit strained, as if his voice is trying to say "OBJECTION!" as clear as possible but without slipping into a German Accent (I presume he has German origins, being called Kristoph, and his brother Klavier.)

Klavier...sounds a tad too weak, if I might say.

But Kristoph isn't a German name. Neither is Gavin, it's Irish.

That sort of reasoning makes me think that perhaps they're not actually of German heritage (Though they could certainly be German by appearance) Maybe they simply studied in Germany, like Franziska did?

But honestly, PJ812, I think what you're saying is a bit extreme. I'm sure any lack of a German accident (If indeed the Gavins are deserving of one) was merely an oversight rather than some sort of bizarre attempt to appease certain Xenophobic residents of the southern USA.

Hmm. What about Klavier? I think it could be a German name, thanks to German Composer J.S. Bach and his "Das Wohltemperirte Clavier" (The Well Tempered Clavier.) Then again, I could be looking far too deeply into it.

It's called "Capcom threw members of their staff into a recording booth instead of using trained voice actors." It's not a crime, it's just convenient. I would have liked Klavier to have an accent because he obviously plays up his German heritage as part of his act, but Kristoph has been living in the states for at least the last seven years, probably longer. There's no reason for him to speak with a German accent.

In the original, they were both from America but still had obviously Japanese names. I think the easiest way to explain it is they had mixed parents - mayber their dad was American but their mother German.

And PJ, your first post was unnecessarily offensive. These are niche games that have included tons of multi-culteral references in the past. There's no reason to think there's some prejudiced motive involved in two fictional characters not having a German accent.
