The part mentioning the Steel Samurai DVDs Maya sent?

It's not really implied it's Maya, but when you examine the cideo tapes in 4-2 inside Phoenix's hospital room it says something like that.

Sure it is. Apollo asks if Phoenix likes children's shows and he replies "There's this 'kid' that keeps sending them to me."
But yeah, 4-2, hospital, DVD stack (Or maybe the television). You have to examine it when Phoenix is there though, of course.

I checked that... how disappointing...
Especially the "something like a niece or nephew" part... I mean, come on, they were lovers!
Not to mention, Maya is 26. That's hardly a "kid".

This is my biggest problem with this game. The Nick x Maya pairing was officially canon in 3-5, but then Maya and Pearl just disappear?
They were really cute together... like a happy family *sniff*
I mean, come on, what stopped the creators from including just a little explanation? Something that eases the worries of the fans.
You know what this remind me of? The Indiana Jones trilogy. There, both the little kid from the 2nd movie (forgot his name) and Marion, the girl from the 1st one just disappear, and they aren't even mentioned in the The Last Crusade.

So what's up with this? The Ace Attorney series was known for its brilliant writing, explanations, build-ups and references. So how could they make such an atrocious plot hole not giving a good explanation what happened to Maya and Pearls? After all they lived together. So why aren't they with Nick now? They broke up because Nick lost his badge? No chance! Even better, why doesn't Trucy know Maya and Pearl? Or if she knows them, why does she (and Phoenix too) hide them?

But okay, we can say for sure that it IS Maya who sends those DVDs. I mean, who else? The creators put that in the game for a reason. So Nick and Maya do keep in touch. But what kind of touch? How often do they meet anyway? Is Maya so busy with the Master thing that she can't live in the city with Nick? And does Nick work on a "secret mission" or something so he can't leave the city? Did Trucy meet Maya at all? Are Nick and Maya still in love (they'd better!)? Do they meet occasionally, just the two of them, so they can have sexfun?

The whole game just feels... incomplete. They explained Edgey's disappearance in GS2, but even GS1 didn't have such loose ends.
Maybe the creators just want to tease us and there will be a reunion (or at least some explanation on the matter) in GS5? I don't know.

So, if anyone read this this huge wall of text... any opinions?

Actually, I'd say "some kid" was Cody, just to avoid the whole Nick/Maya relationship issue. <<; And I haven't played Trials and Trib, so I'm not sure where this officially canon Nick/Maya confirmation is, but...eh.

Maya *is* too old by then to be considered a "kid", so if it's not Cody I think it might actually be Pearl. She showed hints of becoming a Steel Samurai fan by 2-4, at least.

There are so many holes in AJ/GS4 that I personally would rather not they try to fill them all. Phoenix and Co. need to be left behind for good.

Actually, don't forget that the kid was in " "-s, Phoenix didn't actually say she was a kid.
Apollo said that the Steel Samurai, Pink Princess, etc. are children shows, and questioned why Phoenix watched them.
Now don't forget that in many languages (I don't know about Japanese) "kid" and "child" are the same word. So Phoenix might have said "kid" in reflection to Apollo saying "child".
It can also be a reference to Maya being a kid at heart, not by age. That also explains the " "-s.

As for Cody, then the "something like nephew or niece" think wouldn't make sense.
I think it vaguely refers to being a relative, or at least something like that. Phoenix, Maya and Pearl were like a family, weren't they?
So probably Phoenix keeps his Maya relationship in secret from Apollo and the world, until... whatever... and tries not to lie but not to say too much either.

Obviously, I'm thinking about it too deep. But at least this whole thing inspired me, which is never a bad thing.

I read the wall of text. ^_^;; And I really don't think it was "canon" that Phoenix and Maya were in a relationship at all. Not a "lovers" type relationship anyway. I see them more as brother and sister, but that's just me. *shrugs* There wasn't really anything in the game to say, "They're going out!"

But, I digress.

I think that the "kid" refers to Maya as well. Although it could very well be Cody. ^_^;; I don't think it was Edgey, but it would be hilarious if it was. XD He's canonically a BIG Steel Samurai fan. ^_^ (Albeit, a secret one. XD)

AJ was kind of a disappointment to me, I hope that they can make things right in GS5. ^_^;;

Agree with crouton. Played through 3-5 recently, there is absolutely nothing beyond implication saying Nick loves Maya. Heck, I think he just cares for her as the last he has left of Mia (and as a close friend)

That doesn't make the pairing canon and I've read the topic. Nothing there makes the pairing canon. Their relationship is entirely platonic in the game and, if anything, it seems to label them more as being siblings then lovers ("I need to be a good big sister to Nick and Pearly"). The game never comes out and presents the two as a romantic couple, although you are welcome to ship the pair if that's the pairing you prefer. Phoenix is in no canon relationship by the end of T&T (and I find it unlikely that Capcom will ever risk putting him in one because that move could upset a lot of the fandom).

I don't know, even before coming to these forums I always though that Nick and Maya were a couple.
And honestly, before reading about it here, I didn't even consider the idea of Phoenix x Edgeworth. And to be honest, I was shocked, because it was so random, and so nonsensical.
Remember Cloud and Aeris? Nothing more happened than between Nick and Maya, and still noone denies the fact that they were in love.
Zidane and Garnet... well, that was a bit more obvious, with Zidane constantly hinting it with his pervert jokes, but Garnet didn't show more than Maya... up until the very very end.
And there is the Link - Saria pairing from Ocarina of Time (of course I support that one too). It was also as canon as Nick x Maya. They never told each other that they were in love, but it was just so blatant obvious. (In Ocarina of Time, by the way, many of the girls fell in love with Link, but as far as I remember, he only returned the feelings to Saria).

The DVDs are sent by Maya. This is proven in an interview with one of the writers.

The game was written without taking into account the details of game 2 and 3 really. It is not a logical scenario after 3-5. Phoenix's past in making his GS4 character is written as 'Phoenix was a lawyer' - '1-5' - 'Phoenix was a lawyer black box'.

So, most of the time, Maya 'doesn't exist' except when they recall her and make the DVD reference.

No, the pairing was not officially canon, but what was definitely canon was that they genuinely loved each other [yes, it could be interpreted as familial rather than romantic love], would risk their lives for each other and would never abandon each other, ever. It would be inconceivable that they didn't still have a strong relationship by GS4 and Maya's 'absence' is a severe violation of the canon of game 3 and 2. [Face it, even in a 'familial' relationship, she'd probably just invite disbarred Phoenix to live at Kurain. None of this hobo poker. And Edgeworth probably could have
Phoenix's character revolved around his friends, so trying to bring him back without them just didn't work.

Re: Maya in GS4 timeline... well, it is canon males leave the village to work... and there are months and months where Phoenix is offscreen. We can hope he is with Maya and Edgeworth during this time. Phoenix would have kept all details of his life which were not necessary to reveal from Apollo. I mean, they weren't exactly friends, and he probably didn't trust him very much, at least before 4-4. He told him practically nothing about the cases, even.

No, they are not actively involved in a romantic relationship during the games [1-3.] However, by the trial in 3-5, the attitude Phoenix is displaying toward Maya is very interesting.


No. Maybe in, say 1-3, but even by 1-4 he's genuinely attached to Maya in her own right. That's certainly abundantly clear by 2-2.

They should have been left behind in 3-5.. but now it's too late, we can't abandon Phoenix to his sad new life minus his old friends. Why not just make him leave in GS5 to live in Kurain with Maya [you can pretend Iris moved there too, if you like, since her sister is there] and start some legal firm with Edgeworth? Everybody can fill in the gaps with fanfic to their liking which won't have to be violated by the new arc.
