I think I've seen one crack fanart of it, but generally I guess it's just the fact that people shudder at just the thought of it.
I really, really don't think von Karma would do something so low, never. Ugh, but this is just one of those pairings that would bother me to no end, but everyone has a right to their crack ^^;

It's way too popular. I don't even see the reason. I didn't even think about such a random and stupid pairing until I came to this site. It's simply baseless. The only base is some kind of weird fangirl thinking "Edgey's so hot. Phoenix is hot too. Together they'll be hot, so I ship them." It's simply wrong. Well, you are on of the very few exceptions. Most P/E fans I know hate Maya. And Iris too.
By the way, I ship both Phoenix x Iris, Phoenix x Mia and Phoenix x Maya, but not at the same time.
In my headcanon (i love this word) until 3-1, it was Phoenix x Iris.
From sometime after 3-1 to before 1-2 it was Phoenix and Mia.
And after that, Maya was Phoenix's love interest.
In general, I don't mind any pairings that make sense with the story and not contradict it (like Klavier and Ema). P/E doesn't make sense in my opinion.

There is no definite proof if Phoenix and Edgeworth are gay or not. And even with that, most fangirls know that they are not canon gay, but we like the idea of them being gay and with eachother. If we ever say they are, it's either speculation or we're just joking.
Most shippers have reasons to like the pairing. I believe it's not at 'baseless' as you seem to think. Though I will agree it may be more popular than it should; different couple shippers should have equal oppourtunity to see good fanart/read good fanfiction too.
The cute couples thread was for that, cute couples. Are you saying that gay couples aren't cute? Or just Phoenix and Edgeworth?
I REALLY disagree with this 'fact' that Phoenix/Edgeworth shippers hate Maya. You have no proof whatsoever of this. I have talked to fellow Phoenix/Edgeworth shippers before, and not one of them have mentioned hating Maya or any female characters. Besides, there is also no absolute facts that Phoenix and Maya could be a couple either. They could just be friends.
Not all close friends are gay; that is obvious. However, why does that have to be one of the main reasons we enjoy Phoenix/Edgeworth? Why does that even have to be a factor in this matter?
And of course Capcom didn't intend it. I don't think they intended any couples in PW except the married ones and Phoenix/Iris five years ago. Doesn't mean we can't like it.
So, I'm sorry for arguing but I had to get this off my chest. You didn't really have to go on this whole big rant on why you don't like them. You could have just said, 'I don't really like Phoenix and Edgeworth together' and leave it at that.

Gentlemen, behold. Henceforth, to be gay, you must act as the stereotype. It is not as though I have several male friends who defy every 'gay' stereotype, have never spoken with a lisp or had a limp wrist, could care less about their appearance and loathe the idea of structuring their identity around their sexual orientation (no rainbow flags here), and yet, are gayer than Easter bonnets. Well. Two girls, huh. By a factor of 1.5 billion, they speak for the entire heterosexual female demographic.

I would like to return to the point that stereotypical gay behavior may be a turn-off for many women, but that is only for gay men who embody society's stereotype and trappings. Call me homophobic, but I still don't like the idea of them being gay.
You know, when i play a game like Ace Attorney, i like to be one with the protagonist (unless s/he is an idiot like Luneth in FF3 or evil like Marche in FFTA), and with Phoenix it was a really easy job, since out thinking and manner of speech are similar in many ways (especially when it comes to those sarcastic comments). And I just... again, call me homophobic, but I'm disgusted about gayness.
I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, and I have 2 gay friends, but I just hate seeing it.
Especially when it comes to the characters I really like (like Phoenix and Edgeworth).

/ and / .(And man, the idea that a pairing - any pairing, not just PW - being het means the couple is automatically functional, sunshine & daisies, and thus boring, is just plain laughable. Hilarious, even. Because of how untrue it is. XD)

And hey, if you don't like P/E just because you use Phoenix as an avatar and you yourself are not gay, that's perfectly fine. That in-of-itself is more than enough explanation. Hell, even if you just didn't like the vibe you got from the pairing, that is fine too.
What is not fine is trying to back up what is essentially a gut feeling and you placing yourself in Phoenix's position with flawed arguments and fractured, circular logic.
And disliking the pairing or not getting a gay vibe off a character does not make you homophobic; that in-of-itself is a gross simplification of the evaluation of character sexuality. If you yourself ARE homophobic, then that right there explains why you don't like the idea of the pairing.
tl;dr version: Just admitting that you don't like the pairing because you just don't is fine; using flawed arguments to try to make your reasoning look logical, canonical, and psychologically-accurate is not.

Likely these same people disliked Maya even if they weren't shipping P/E (?). Though I'll grant you some of them seem to actively dislike the Phoenix/Maya pairing?
7. That reference in 1-5 to Gumshoe getting a nosebleed over Edgeworth's office - uh.. I think they were having fun cultivating crackish ships in that case...
As for that similar (now locked) rant thread, I'll just mention that most people don't object to the Phoenix/Iris pairing after 3-5 because they saw him with Edgeworth, but because they think that the writers heavily implied that the pairing had no future and was over. [Not impossible - but definitely implied as extremely unlikely and not canon.]
