8400 yen?

There's absolutely nothing for western fans to get excited about. Unless you want to pay that ridiculous price for the DVD or take a trip to go see the performance you're out of luck. At least an anime would've had a better chance of fan subbing and distribution.

Of course, I'm personally biased because I just really don't like Takarazuka in any way, shape or form. I'd be a lot less disappointed if it was a somewhat more traditional group doing it like the folks who did the Bleach musicals. I dunno it's just that there's some characters that need to be masculine and from what I've seen of Takarazuka they kinda fail at being manly.

Because the game was totally created in the western hemisphere, right?

Capcom doesn't really have to do ANYTHING for us if they don't want to, guys :/ They're centered in Japan, so they should be doing stuff for their home market. It's like (just to give a very lame example) Spongebob. Worldwide hit. But it's not like Nickelodeon was like 'OH WE HAVE TO DO THINGS JUST FOR THE AUDIENCE IN JAPAN. AND THE AUDIENCE IN AUSTRALIA TOO.' No. The home base is the US so naturally that's where you're going to find all the merchandise. See what I mean?

Nah man, appealing to your customers is like the worst thing ever.

No company in the world HAS to do anything, ever. Of course they don't. But that's no excuse for anything, ever, either.

Unless you have a region 2 DVD player, any 'Japanese' region 0 DVD you are able to play on an American (region 1) DVD player is more than likely a Taiwanese counterfeit. So, either way, CAPCOM doesn't see the money.

Hmm, I need to look into getting a region-free DVD player. :P But $84? That's... ouch. Maybe it comes with a photobook or something?
Maybe Netflix'll have it. <---This girl lives in a dream.

I've been a long time fan of Takarazuka as it fits well into my gender and sexuality studies in Japan. However I must admit I am quite weirded out by the inclusion of Phoenix Wright in their recent movement of including pop-culture into their plays.

With Rose of Versailles it made sense as the series is super shoujo. But Phoenix Wright.....
Romantic isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I think about Phoenix Wright and Takarazuka is all about romance.

....which basically allows me to conclude that all those Naruhodou/Mayoi shippers out there are about to get a great big present with this one.

(hopefully us Mei/Mitsurugi shippers too...maybe maybe...)

I wish.. but something tells me this may be the one shot at pleasing the Phoenix/Edgeworth fans.
Or Phoenix and Mia. I always did like that pairing, though I don't see it possible in the actual games.

I think the fact that she's dead is a huge contributing factor on that one. I don't think Maya would want to keep channeling her sister so that Phoenix could properly date her.

Regardless, a GS musical makes no less sense than a Bleach one even if the Bleach musical had gender appropriate casting (Bleach was one of the very last things on my mind that would be made into a musical). I think it's the very idea that a whole group of females are performing that is scaring/creeping everyone out.

Oh man, shonen anime musicals. That has GOT to make less sense than a lawyer musical XD

There is a possibilty that the "romance" theme doesn't center on Phoenix himself, btw. Throughout the series, Phoenix doesn't get into any romantic entanglements himself until game 3, but most of the cases have some kind of love reference. If the musical deals with an original case, the romance might be between OCs.

Meh, I wouldn't have been over the moon with joy over the announcement of an anime either, and I recall saying just that way before this was announced. ^^ There have been so many crappy animes based on games that I'm inherently wary of them now. I think I probably figured it'd be an anime, but I wasn't so fervently for the idea that I'm BAWWWWWWWWWWing now that it's been confirmed that it's not. I'm so much more interested in hearing about, and playing, the games themselves - GK and especially GS5 - than in watching some musical/opera version. Cause, as said before, it just isn't my thing. And there's nothing wrong with that; it's something that isn't for everybody.

(Re: the fact that they're all women - yeah, whatever. It could be a cast of both genders, and I still wouldn't be enthusiastic.)

I think this is one of the most awesome things ever. XD I was all "WTF?" when I first saw the news (at school, too--I was about to yell in a strange mix in happiness/anger, but that wouldn't have been the best idea...), but it's grown on me.

So...thank GOD I both know how to work with torrents and have a region free DVD player (which is constantly hijacked by my Scottish mom, BTW. XD)

I personally love the idea of a musical/opera. Maybe because I love musicals in general, but I would love to see it!...But we probably never will unless they translate it in English and send it to America to be done in English. Which probably won't happen. :larry:

I may watch it in Japanese, though, if someone adds english subtitles at the bottom whenever it comes out (hopefully) on DVD or something...

Below someone said something about a Bleach musical... LAWLWUT?

And to non-believers of Phoenix Wright becoming a musical; check out the Phoenix Wright: The Musical thread in the Defendant Lobby. We've managed to write songs, so they probably will. XD

The reason I'd easily prefer the group who did the Bleach musical is that I've never seen anyone cast and costume characters so well

I don't think it's the fact that it's a musical the people are complaining about, but the fact that they decided to involve the Takarazuka Revue, an all-female troupe, which would be entirely wtfwtfwtf for the Ace Attorney series, and would appeal to a specific market in Japan.

Eh, they can do whatever they like; Japanese companies catering to their Japanese audience is nothing new to me. And I've been able to order, in the past, Japan-only merchandise through websites that deal in such items(I've even used the Japanese Amazon a couple times, like for the recently released artbook for the Valkyrie Profile games) and places like Kinokuniya, or the dealer's room at cons, so it doesn't really bother me - if I have the money and the desire for an item, I can find a way to get it a lot of the time.

(A couple things I got - the Valkyrie keychains for VP - later got put in the official Square-Enix store on their English site, well after they'd gotten sold out at at least one online store I looked at. I can't help but wonder if the two are related...)

I'm also pretty much just grateful that the game came out over here at all, and caught on so much that they decided to bring over the others too. One of my favorite games of all time, Seiken Densetsu III, has never been released outside of Japan and never will be, so that gives me a little perspective on being happy for every good game that does get released over here. ^^ So, let them do a musical, an opera, whatever it is. They're entitled to, just as I'm entitled to not be interested simply because that sort of thing is not my cup of tea. I just hope they give us some tidbits about the new games soon.

Most of the time that's true, but Capcom puts the majority of their Gyakuten Saiban merchandise for sale only on their Japanese e-store (which does not ship internationally). On Japanese Amazon you can find the games, the fanbooks, and the doujin (when they're in stock) but stuff like the Garyuu necklace, the Papa Hat, most of the keychains and bracelets and things, hardly ever show up on import sites and rarely on Ebay, and when they do, they sell out pretty fast. When I bought the GS Playing cards off Play Asia, they went out of stock less than a week later.

If we want the chance to even be able to import most GS merchandise, we have to make a stink to Capcom so they know they can afford to produce more of it.

I heard about this when I first came to CR about a month ago, and the first thing I thought was 'WTF?! It's the Zuka club from Ouran!!' Lol. I knew that Tarazuka was real (some of my friends thought they had made it up just for Ouran... yeah).. but, seeing a girl playing Phoenix just seems.... weird. Not that those girls probably aren't realy awesome at what they do, but when I saw her pic she ruined a whole bunch of smexy Phoenix images I keep stored in the back of my mind. And if/when they sing it's going to be REALLY weird. Maybe she would look better if her hair was a bit spikier, yes... but making a Feenie wig can be rather taxing (not that I would DARE ever try... I'd say, 'use your hair if you can, peoples!' ), and plus if they are going to move around a lot it does make sense. I just want to see who's playing Maya... she'll probably be uber cute.

And yes, the japanese are CRAZY for not porting this stuff into an Anime. I know they have the resources, and they've already put it into manga form...(not to mention adding a whole new game style for the series in Gyakuten Kenji there), and I know Capcom would sure as hell make a LOT of money off of it. I know how popular PW is HERE, for goodness sakes.. I can't even imagine what the response would be in Japan where it's obviously more mainstream. Like how One Piece is like, uber popular in Japan, whereas a lot of American otaku don't give a flying crap about it. GS could rule the world if they tried hard enough. :karma:
