So, I went to a pumpkin-carving party last night and couldn't for the life of me figure out what to carve into mine... until I started thinking of my recent obsession with these games. I saw upon coming home afterward that last year several people did something similar, but since I'm not sure if I should be grave-digging a topic from 2007, I thought I'd post here instead.

My camera kind of sucks, so I apologize for the lame quality, but here are a few shots, under spoiler cuts for size:

I was going to try to make an Edgeworth one, and now I know it's feasible. Do you have any tips on what to use as a template? Or did you just do it from memory?

I hope I will be able to make mine. My husband and I are suppose to agree on a design. I think he wants to do a Fallout one since the game is coming out soon.

Oh yeah, that comes out tomorrow! ^_^

My husband couldn't care less if I carved a pumpkin or not. Too bad I probably couldn't carve a PxE pumpkin. :hotti:

My husband has to work the midnight release. He wanted to dress up as Pitboy (Vaultboy), but didn't get a costume together in time. After the game comes out I'll probably won't hear or see him because, he'll be so engrossed. At least on Wed. he has to spend time with me because he promised to take me to jury duty.

If you did carve a P/E pumpkin, you probably couldn't display it outside. I can just see the horrified looks on the parents faces as they bring them to your house on Halloween.

Eep, jury duty. I'm sorry. ^_^;; I once got summoned for jury duty, but I got out of it because I'm Canadian. XD I'm pretty sure that my husband will be going to buy Fallout3 at some point tomorrow. ^_^ He's pretty much only getting it because Bethesda made it, and he loved Oblivion: the Elder Scrolls.

Hahaha. XD I'd be scarring those kids for life!! XD

...I might have to go to the store and buy a pumpkin today. :hotti:

I want to go back to school, so that I can properly and formally learn Japanese. Which hopefully I'll end up doing in January. *crosses fingers* Kids? Eep. O_o No thanks. I don't want them, and I don't know that I ever will.

Hehe, I sure will!! XD Or if anything, I may try to carve an Edgeworth pumpkin. XD Although a PxE pumpkin sounds so much more fun!! :hotti:

I don't know what I want to do, and that's the problem. Although, I had a dream last night I was an English professor. I have so many things I want to pursue (most of them involve writing or literature in some way), but I don't want to waste my time in school earning a masters's degree that I don't need. I want kids eventually, but I don't think it's the right time now. I'm much to selfish to care for a helpless child.

I'm going to buy a pumpkin on Wed. or Thursday. If my husband and I can't decide on what to carve, maybe we'll just get two pumpkins and each make our own. Last year we did Zelda pumpkin.

I didn't know what I wanted to do for the longest time. And now, all of a sudden, it's hit me. I wish I had figured this out years ago, when I was in college. >_< *sighs*

@MysticalSand: That looks amazing! Great work you did on it. The spikes could have used a bit more of work, it's tough when you cutting into a pumpkin but looks great regardless.

@crouton: You go out and buy that Pumpkin! Craving Pumpkins have been a part of the holiday almost as long as the holiday has been around. Keep the tradition alive. :edgy:

I myself am not very artistically inclined, but my friend drew the silhouette for me based on the sprites on the site, here. She just eyeballed it and then drew an oval around it so I'd know where to cut. Then I pinned it to the pumpkin with toothpicks and went to town!

Hope that helps!

Also, @crouton - Good luck on taking up Japanese; I'm studying it right now! (ETA: And I'm pretty sure pumpkins are on the cheap side, depending on how huge you're going for. You can call it part of your groceries if you cook the seeds and eat them!)

And @ButzPuff - Yeah, the spikes were difficult. They actually look better if you're angled slightly above where I took the shots from, but unfortunately my camera blurred the ever-loving crap out of them. T__T

Prior to carving this one, I hadn't carved a pumpkin before in my life! My parents always did it for us when my sister and I were little, and when we were old enough to do it ourselves, we didn't really continue the tradition and my parents bought one of those fake ones with the light bulb inside.

So I say, go for it!

Mine would probably be okay with it if it did happen, but my birth control pills would definitely object. XD

Thank you! My friends got me started and then it was pretty easy. Just had to be careful to follow the lines. My friend who was hosting the party had a whole slew of little tools. I used a little plastic one to poke toothpick-sized holes all around the outline, then removed the drawing and used a little serrated knife to cut along the holes I'd poked. Then I just removed a little section at a time until the majority of the outline was done, and then cleaned it up with a larger knife (it was about the size of a paring knife, only serrated like the tiny one) to smooth the edges out a bit. The only big knife I used was to get the top cut off so I could remove the inside. I'm pretty sure the tools she had came in a little kit from a party store, so they're probably relatively easy to find.

(ETA: I used the word "little" far too many times in that paragraph; sorry about that. XD)

Aww! Yep, definitely a Gumshoe pumpkin. If a description can make me want to hug something as alive as the pixels on my DS screen, it's a winning Gumshoe pumpkin. :salute:

As for the original post - pure brilliance. :phoenix: All it needs is a sound clip shouting "Objection!". That'd give trick or treaters a surprise.

With a pumpkin to spare, some friends of mine and myself attempted a Matt Engarde pumpkin (what else, given what I'm like?). It ended up with Juan carved on the other side, too, complete with grass stalk. Cute, but nowhere near as impressive as that Phoenix pumpkin.

What we need is a Godot pumpkin. I guess you could put a red filter behind the goggle bit to make the light red...It's a shame it's too late now to out one out for trick-or-treaters.
(Not that I get many of em down my way, England + street of old people with like me-and-two-others making up the youth=Halloween fail T.T)
Anyways, that pheonix pumpkin ish teh awesome!
