I don't really see why people make such a big fuss about it. I mean, I understand the reasons why, but it just seems silly to me.

People should have the choice to do what they want in their lives, not have the government control their lives for them because of how other people feel. That's not what the government is for. I feel this way about abortion, too.

I mean, the people who are against abortion and gay marriage aren't going to have an abortion or marry someone of the game gender themselves, now are they? :garyuu: There are financial benefits to marriage, why should anyone be denied that? And some people need abortion, like rape victims and people who make a very low income.

Don't forget that gay marriage was also banned in Arizona and Flordia!!!

I didn't vote (long story), but both of my parents voted for McCain, and now my mom is really sad that Obama won. (And it's weird because my mom is not a big republican or anything--she's just an independant that really dislikes Obama's policies--and my dad, who's a big republican, is taking it pretty well)

If same-sex couples wanted to alter the definition of marriage just so they could have the same benefits as married couples, they must not have heard of domestic partnership.

It's also a matter of sounding equal. Marriage is viewed as the ultimate expression of love. Domestic partnership sounds like a legal term.

I don't think (rather, I hope) that won't happen. Being the governer of a state is not a great qualification for running the country (just look at Bush and the great job he did). Plus, I think she rather embarrased herself in the media one too many times for most Americans to take her seriously. But these are my opinions, and I don't know how others might feel.

Some also said that this might be a repeat of the Carter Era, well I for one hope it is a repeat of the Clinton Era (sans sex scandal obviously). The economy was good, gas prices were low, and people had jobs. I for one am glad that we have smart, well spoken leader again.

Obama is a senator (as is McCain-McCain has been at it longer of course). However, by the time the 2012 elections come by Obama will have much more experience at the highest executive office than Palin if she tried to run against him (which I doubt she would, but its too early to tell obvioulsy).

I was merely trying to say that she would be one of the last choices to run for President given her lack of experience. I always thought it odd she was the choice for Vice President, given that no one outside of Alaska had ever heard of her before she was announced. Same for Bush when he campaigned the first time. I thought it was odd that McCain wasn't picked that time around. Bush may have been the govenor of Texas, but what people don't know is that position is not really the seat of power in the state. The Lt. Govenor is the one who makes all the decisions. I guess it works diferently in Alaska, but I still stand by my opinion that I don't think it would be wise for Palin to run. Like the last time a women was the vice presidential candidate, she will (most likely) be a footnote in history. One that will be remembered more for her looks than her actual (if any) mental capacity.

News goes South pretty fast when you live in Federal Way. :lana:
Lunaria42 wrote:

That wasn't an OMGWTFWHO because there was already some history behind the name. That alone forces some instant decisions in the minds of people. That decision turned out to be a final one.
Lunaria42 wrote:

This is why I voted quickly on this one. All the garbage about Chris Gregoire and all the negative campaign ads about her and even the people running against her(on election day even) just doesn't phase me. I never like any of the governor issues that are brought up because they all blow up into a 90-day rampage of negative campaign ads. I'd say more money has been wasted during this election than Chris's projected deficit. The worst part is that no one ever seems to run against the Lt. and no one seems to care. He doesn't campaign. No one has ever heard of Brad Owen! :shy:

We still vote for him though. Probably because he takes care of all the little things before they blow up into major issues. I know he's doing good by not running a slew of ads. That man is money.

Er...not according to the pro-life view. Remember that that viewpoint is that the unborn children are, well, children.

I believe we can all agree that killing a child is a terrible crime. Therefore, if said unborn children are children, even rape victims or those of poor incomes should, by that logic, not be allowed to do an abortion. After all, as the viewpoint is that the child inside the womb is as alive and worth protecting as a child outside the womb, abortion is utter infanticide and should not be allowed. If someone killed their born child because they couldn't support them, they'd be thrown in prison, and no one would take "well, I couldn't support them" as a viable answer. Same thing with rape. Yes, making someone suffer through 9 months in addition to being raped is terrible, but killing an innocent child is worse. The only time abortion would ever be justified would be if the mother's life was in danger, which is a case of having to kill someone to save someone else.

That is, of course, assuming the zygote/embryo/fetus IS a child...figuring out exactly when life begins, now THAT'S the tricky part.

I do hate to have possibly started an abortion debate, but I honestly had to point that out. Sadly, to far too many pro-lifers, being "pro-life" applies more to people BEFORE they're born than AFTER they are...

As to voting, I had strong reasons I simply could not vote for either Obama or McCain, and all of the third-party candidates looked completely wacky (and one, Jeffry Wamboldt, I could honestly find no information on. How do you run for President if you don't even have your own website?) Didn't like either of the Representative candidates, and would've voted for myself there if I was old enough to serve. All of the other races had only one name on the ballot. Honestly, if not for a school referendum about giving more money to schools, I might not have bothered voting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Djohakx_FE

Now allow me to do a george Carlin style take on this thread :edgy: .
I think this topic should be renamed. The title is "I voted, did you?" about who you voted for . Besides that now it's branched out into democrat and republican bashing - the new world order - abortion - gay marriage - who's running in 2012 - i mean this topic train jumped the track a few miles ago and is still moving like the engine that chases Leslie Neilson through the woods in the movie "Wrongfully Accused". It's gotten interesting. :godot:
And speaking of gay marriage it's conservatives who are against it not liberals. Liberals are the supporters. Just like they support the use of weed for medical purposes - gun control - trying to negotiate with terrorists - the use of eminent domain to take people's land for commercial uses and all that other shit that Hannity and Colmes shoe each other in the nuts with 5 times a week on the Fox News channel.
The train's a mile from the track now :karma:

Hell with it here's the movie scene i'm talking about :will:

I never said I liked or supported abortion. I just believe people should have a choice. And some people want that as their option and if they're denied that, then some people resort to back alley and illegal abortion, which puts their lives in danger.

I dislike abortion immensely.

But on the other hand, back-alley abortions are much worse. The problem I have with the UK is that everyones so lassaiz-faire about it. People are all like "oh, just have an abortion. It's easiest", and then once it's done they realise they didn't give it enough thought, and they regret it. (TBH, from most of the people I've met who've had an abortion, most of them seem to have some regrets about it). It's a freaking big thing to decide, whetever option you pick.

On a side note, it's interesting how discussions like this reveal stuff about people you wouldn't know normally. I had no idea that Gozu was engaged. XD You could move over here if you want to Gozu, we have civil partnerships. (Which is basically Marriage without the God bits)
