No, I did not. I'm 17, and missed the birthday deadline for election day by exactly 2 months, if I was to vote on election day.

The point was not about partisanship......

And outside of suicide, murder and bomb threats, that comment truly was one of the worst I've ever read on any forum. It's basically a confession of helping to further treat fellow citizens as unequals and outcasts BECAUSE you didn't care about the issue.

What's funny is that someone I met was annoyed that they couldn't vote, even though they already passed the U.S. citizenship test a week ago. Thing is, you're not an official citizen until you say the oath, which is scheduled to be in a month. So even though they passed the test, they weren't able to vote. :(

Sickening or not, it's the cold-hard truth and you can't tear that out of me. I'm a pretty hollow, selfish, uncaring person although I couldn't begin to trace it back to the time when it began. It's not my intention to offend anyone, so if you let shit like that get to you then that's your fault.

WAIT THAT'S A DICTATORSHIP!

It's the same thing. Just think of it this way; if a Judge decided to ban gay marriage, then people would still be pissed. For or against, one person (or a small group of people) deciding for an entire state is just bad. So give it some time and try again. I know people don't want to wait forever to marry, but things just can't be decided that way and still uphold the foundations of democracy. If you can use the courts to overturn this, something that was decided by a majority vote, then you could use them to overturn anything that was decided by a majority vote. And that, is not democracy.

Well get used to it because Obama gets to elect 2 new supreme court judges next year, and no doubt he'll pick liberal ones. Then the whole supreme court will be liberal and we lose freedoms even faster.

Bush wasn't the one who agreed companies could use eminent domain to take peoples land for commercial uses :zenitora: . That was the supreme court which has a slight liberal majority at the moment. And liberals are the ones who want to ban the 2nd ammendment. Now the'll have a chance.
And if they do that you might as well put the hammer and sickle on the american flag .
The 2nd ammendment is the only thing we have to use against a new world order takeover if it happens.

Yeeeeeeeeeeah but Brown V. Board didn't overturn anything that had already been voted for. Not to mention the fact it overturned a decision that had been previously made by the court proving that judges know just about as much about ethics and civil liberties than the people do. Making my entire point and our entire argument more or less a constant back and forth of technicalities and loop holes that every government has and takes advantage of.

I'm not going to argue the ethical points of this situation though, since I have no real opinion on the issue outside of how it's handled legally. I'll let the people who actually have strong opinions either way debate and vote on that.

The United States is more often characterized as a Federal Republic than a Democratic Republic because it's a lot more specific. It's also considered a democracy in some definitions of the word.

Dictionary:
satirist (săt'ər-ĭst) pronunciation

n.

One who is given to satire, especially a writer of satirical works.

Also now I'm convinced. JR is really a brilliant political satirist in disguise and is monitoring the reactions of people on the internet for his master work.

Edit: Maan... you edited out the part where you misread what I wrote with hilarious consequences. :payne:

either way you have to admit that the courts have made unpopular choices before because they were in the best interest of the people

also, yes, quite. but do keep in mind that the courts are undemocratic for a reason: the founding fathers didn't want all of the power held in the hands of the people, because the people are fickle and tend to have factions. judges are less so, and they certainly don't have factions among them. the whole "hurr judges saying it's okay is undemocratic and dictatoresque" is silly and very incorrect.

On a lighter note, if any part of this article is true, then I'm 1% more relieved about the Obama presidency:

That being said getting letters from Iran days after being elected does not make things easy!

anyone catch obama's press conference today? I thought he spoke well, he certainly seemed realistic, though I do not necessarily agree with him 100%... I wonder how he will get all the money to do what he wants to do. what people seem to have forgotten is that Bush is really only a republican because of his conservative social views. as we've all seen, he is a very, very liberal spender. and I feel like we're in for more liberal spending with Obama, winner of 2007's most liberal senator award.

however, I won't mind deficit spending if it begets significant economic growth. we'll see what happens... "it's the economy, stupid." I also wish they'd cut the corporate tax some, but there's no way Obama will do that.

(all this said, he wasn't really too specific in his conference besides about the kind of dog the family is looking to get. they need one that is hypoallergenic and apparently they also want a shelter dog, which is typically "a mutt like [Obama]" XD)
