So yes, the murder itself takes place on the aiplane while it is in the air, so it would have to be the first part of the case that takes place there exclusively. Though perhaps it will broaden out once the plane lands and Edgeworth has to investigate what led up to the murder...

Black and white film is still avalable for 35mm cameras. I've seen it at Wal-Mart.
Of course B&W photographs aren't very good for crime scene photos.

Actually, it looks like the murder takes place when Edgeworth is on the plane by himself. Once it lands, is when Gumshoe and Edgeworth start investigating it.

Japan isn't one big island, it's pretty much an archipelago of islands. So, if say you were up in Hokkaido (the North of Japan) and needed to get to Okinawa (the South of Japan), then yes, you would need to take an airplane. Heck, you'd need to take a plane from Tokyo if you wanted to get to Okinawa, really. Basically, if you're jumping from island to island, you'd need to fly or take a boat.
...now that would be a cool idea for a case. On a boat. ^_^

I bet the localization team would have fun with that one. What islands are off the coast of California. The only one I know of is from a play I reviewed for school. I believe it was called Santa Catalina, but I could be wrong. I know there is also the island that has Alcatraz, but it's near San Francisco and probably a little out of Edgeworth's and Gumshoe's jurisdiction.
