I'm not sure whether this thread has been made or not (I searched for one but got nothing) but to celebrate the European release of the game I just wanted to show FE fans the official UK site.

http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/games/nds/fire_emblem_shadow_dragon_10089.html

Also this can be a duscussion thread. :phoenix:

EDIT: If you live in the UK, here's where you can buy the game: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fire-Emblem-Shadow-Dragon-Nintendo/dp/B001HZKMDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1228863172&sr=8-1

Woah woah woah.

Europe!? What about the USofA? *goes to find out*

Edit: Sure enough. The US won't get it until sometime next year.

Well. I'm not waiting that long, when I can get it now. Gotta figure out how to import it...

I saw it at a game store here in Holland on the 4th of December! I thought it was to be released on the 5th? Anyway, I was just glad to see it here in Europe :minuki: . I've already finished it once in Japanese though, so I doubt I'll get it anytime soon (also with my Lite being quite broken and all), but I can't wait to know what the actual story is :gant: . I have a friend who has already bought it though.

I have it.

Although to be honest, the 3Dish graphics don't have the same magical touch as the 2D graphics did.

Could someone give me a review with their thoughts on the game? I've never been able to put down a Fire Emblem game, but Final Fantasy 3 DS made me really scared to try another NES remake.

I got it some days before the actual release, and I must say: I'm impressed. The graphics are very good and I really like the gameplay. One very nice and new feature is that you can change classes :godot: I think it's the best game in the series besides FE The Blazing Sword. :redd:

Actually, Europe always gets Fire Emblem games first, do they not? I seem to remember Radiant Dawn coming out over there first too.

*sigh* This looks so great, but I haven't been able to figure out the whole import business. I may just have to wait until it's released here. :larry:

Its happened before (1 particular mention is LoZ: Minish Cap) & its Path Of Radiance that was released before America.

Also, I found some copies in stock on Amazon UK & Game. I'll be getting my copy at Christmas though (along with Chrono Trigger & Animal Crossing *squee!* :will:)

Ah ok. Dunno why I knew one had been released in Europe earlier; I started playing Fire Emblem only after PoR was released here (that was my first game, then I went back and played 7 and 8).

Well enjoy it, you lucky Europeans!

The only thing I don't really like is the battle animation.

It reminds me of the gamecube version and soon enough that got boring. (which is amazing, because I don't get bored)

I'll give something more solid as I go on in the game.

I dunno (since I haven't got it yet) but its something about Marth trying to reclaim his kingdom of Akaneia. There's most likely a lot more to that, but I really don't know.

BTW for you americans out there, popular store Circuit City has a possible release date for the game's American release, which is February 23rd of next year.

It's supposed to come out some time in 2009 for America. Possibly Early or spring 2009.

Also, although, I'm only on Chapter 4, so I really can't say much about the story but there are a couple things involving the game's mechanics and gameplay.

I can really picky on this if anyone wants me to, or I could just talk about the more distinguishing factors.

The American release date is the first half of 2009 at the latest, not counting any delays.

@fatalfeline; Holy War is excellent. Sealed Sword/FE6... not so much.

Eh? Holy War?....That one is weird to me...But it sounds good. The fact that death is not permanet anymore in that game...Confused me. No limit on deployed characters is odd too... The Repair shops sound very nice though. The relationship system sound very nice though. I would play it but...It ain't over here.

Neither is Sealed Sword but...Hm...Why do so many people not like it? I haven't got far in it yet so why do people not like it? Is it really hard?

Hey guys, I don't know if any of you know, but there's a couple of things about this Fire Emblem.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game and all and they've improved on it greatly, but there are a few things that just "aren't there" I don't regret having the game or the fact that it was remade.

One: THERE'S NO SUPPORT CONVERSATIONS. I don't know how many of you wasted turns trying to your characters to talk, but it isn't there any in this game. It helps lot on characters development a lot, as once they join you, they are just 'people with names' really.

Two: SO FAR, THERE'S NO RESCUING. Now I won't say I was in love with rescuing in general, but when it comes down to it, it does help in a critical situation.
Quote:
Your character with pathetic defense is about to die? Rescue them with the indestructible knights and everyone lives!

Those kind of situations.

Three: Animation. I found this nice review from gamespot that sums it up and I QUOTE:

Quote:
Next up is the fighting animations (is that a cheer I hear, maybe?). I love the 2D fighting animations in the GBA games. The were oozing with charm and their attacks had sooooo much 'oomph' that you either went into an adrenaline rush whenever your characters made their attacks (let along their criticals) or you reeled from an enemy attack, wincing from the damage dealt. Whatever the case, the animations were fluid, fast and definitely furious. Come the 3D character models... I've not played much of the Gamecube/Wii FF games much yet, but from what I saw the characters attacks lack impact. Same goes for Shadow Dragon. Here, you get a isometric-ish 3D character model. The animation is fluid... but it's lackluster. Remember the criticals from the mercenaries in FF7 or Sacred Stones? Tapping the sword on the shoulder, then tossing it up high in the air quickly followed by a mighty leap, catching the sword in mid-air and slamming it into the enemies' skull? Brilliance. Now? A sudden fast movement forward, he attacks, the screen whites-out for a micro section and shakes for the same amount of time. There's nothing to compare. We need to get the point back to Intelligent Systems, stick to dynamic 2D models until you find out how to do the same for 3D ones!

Also, horseback people don't have that "extra movement" anymore, but I don't really hold that against them.

Other than that, there's not much else. Then again I'm still on chapter 4

Well I don't think support conversations were around way back then. That would be A LOT of extra writing for a remake. So I don't blame them for that. -_-

In Fire Emblem Sacred Stones you could get special endings for characters depending on who they connected with xD Rennac and L'arachel got married and Dozla cried at her wedding day.

You could do that in Blazing Sword as well.

I'm not surprised at the lack of support conversations; I already knew xP

@book of life: Aside from the animation all those gripes have to do with it being a remake of the original game, so they're hardly surprising.

As for the animations, I don't see what the big deal is. I personally think that the ones from Fire Emblem 9 and 10 look great. And from what I've seen of this game the differences from the GBA ones won't really bother me.

I'm just glad to eventually be getting this chance to play the original! I hope it's successful and they do remakes of the other 5 that haven't yet seen Western shores. (Particularly 6, after they were so cruel as to release 7 - a prequel to it - with its cliffhanger ending. D:<)

In defence of it being a remake... :yuusaku:
I can't read Japanese and it was only released in japanese until this remake making it more widely available thats gotta count for something right? I mean fire emblem without a story is like...like..Nick without a young girl sidekick.

Gonna make this single post before going to bed.

I'm sorry, but I'm a bit lost. Perhaps there is some sort of confusion or misunderstanding along the way?

I don't recall saying that this remake is a horrible, terrible thing to do and they should never do it again. In fact:

book of life wrote:

Sure, my post may have been on the 'bitchy' side, but still, I was only pointing out things that were missing compared to other RECENT Fire Emblem games. The only reason I wrote some things in CAPS was for the emphasis, not from some rage or anger.

It's like Phoenix Wright when it came on DS: "Why doesn't it have any extra cases or those special touch extras" that so many people just had to ask and complain about. It is a remake. A remake can only improve so much. I guess supports was asking for too much? It can be lived without.

Animation? Well, when the mercenaries and myrmidons sword swing look the same, you kinda wonder why there's even two classes. Generally their stats are same. (high speed, skill, med attack, shitty defense/resistance) There was something unique that made each class attack special and exciting to watch. Simple running up to your enemy and swing just doesn't do it. Still I guess it was asking for too much. It could also be live without.

Perhaps in the end, it's just personal opinion, in fact, it is. But know that just because I brought up some bad things about it, it doesn't mean I hate the game. I don't believe in a 'perfect' game, but I don't let that stop me from playing.

Of course I've got to wait more than twice that time thanks to the fact that the mail system doesn't reach here as quickly as elsewhere it seems. Ah well. Not much longer to wait!
