Most, if not all of the spammers have custom titles identical to their names and weblinks as signatures, so they're very easy to identify, but given the number of them it would certainly take a while.

I know when I first joined, membership had been locked for at least several days, if not weeks. Has anyone thought about locking it for a while in order to discourage the spambots?

I think someone might have already thought of this idea, or maybe this isn't possible to do (or too complicated), but I'm somewhat annoyed to see so much spambot. This is a great board, and I don't want any freaking spambot to fake the number of users registered

Seriously, I'm not going to go back through 9000 members to delete one by one those that have zero posts or haven't been around in a while. Some people like to lurk and don't post. Some people only show up when there's a new game out (which has been over a year now). What would be the point? If our database were getting full up and it was a problem, we would take steps, but it's only a cosmetic issue.
When people get banned or we spot a spammer the account gets deleted, so we do wittle down the number of spam accounts whenever they're spotted. But I also get emails from people fairly often saying "I haven't been to CR for a long time and I forgot my password, help...!" Especially with GK coming out I'm sure lots of users will start to reappear to get in on new discussion territory.
