Years ago, my file on Pokemon Silver erased itself. Then I lost the game cartridge :bellboy: I then got Crystal, and I've pretty much finished it (but I haven't got every pokemon). I started playing it again a couple of weeks ago and I remember how good it was.

Which is why I'm thinking of buying another Pokemon Silver :maya: I don't want another Crystal because it's the same game as what I've already got, so Silver should be fine.

There is one problem, though. I heard that Pokemon Silver and Gold erase themselves after a certain amount of time. Is that true? I don't want to get it if I'm just going to lose all the data... It's happened already to me :lana:

Is it safe? :bellboy:

Actually, I just started a Crystal game to play together with my friends, getting nostalgia and all that. I have two Crystals, one Gold and one Silver. The Silver and one of the Crystals work fine, I can save well, and start a new game and then save. The other two I can start a new game and save on, but it won't actually do anything - I'll get the New Game option only when returning to the title screen.

On one of the Crystals there was a save game of at least 2 years old, probably more. So yes, the games do delete your save files, but not for a loooong time. You could always wait for the Gold/Silver remake, though.

It only erases it's self if you have bootleg. If it's the real thing, it should be fine. I know some of my bootleg games erase themself after awhile. Also if you turn off your gbc when it saves it erases it's self.

Actually, that does remind me... I used to do the cloning cheat when I was little. The one that required me to switch off the game at the right time while it was saving. That must've corrupted the file. I can't believe I didn't think of that before :lana:

I'll try and get my dad to order Silver this weekend then. Thank you both :jake:

Might get a Link Cable, too. My N64 Transfer Paks don't work anymore.

Official Save batteries used in GBC and GBA last for a long time (bootlegs don't as I found out with Sonic Battle).

The only way the data will dis appear if the save battery is removed from the cartridge. Lost my Surfing Pikachu that day. :chinami: Although my Crystal Cartridge is buggered up as it it doesn't save, even with a new save battery.

Heh, so I'm fine as long as the battery doesn't fall out of the cartridge? I'm much more careful now so it shouldn't be a problem :garyuu:

If you already have crystal I really don't see the point of getting an inferior version.
But it seems you've already ordered it, so enjoy it... I guess.

My Gold erased itself. D: Now it can't even save. ;_; But my Silver was about the same age as my Gold and it's working fine. I played Gold a lot more though. Maybe it depends on the amount of time it's inside of the GBC/GBA?

Actually, it depends on how much the battery is used/drained.
The energy can fade on many occasions, such as accidently dropping the cartridge, having the game lying around in hot/cold places like direct sunlight during summer and so on and so on.
It's the same deal with all cartridge based games. I personally prefer to keep my SNES, N64 and Gameboy games in our basement. It's cold, but not too cold in there and the games are never exposed to direct sunlight.
And if you kindly write to Nintendo, they are willing to exchange your game's battery.

I think there is a way to charge the game battery, but it really isn't that great. My sister tried it and it only lasted for about a couple of hours. We looked online and some people said that you can charge the battery if you leave it in the game boy for about 100 hours while it's charging.

Also, you can take the game to gamestop or some place similar and they can replace the battery.

I didn't treat my old Silver very nicely, so that's probably why it's broken... and lost :lana:

I just hope this one doesn't erase :shoe:
