It's that time of year again! CR is proud to announce the official start of OC Contest 09. Our judges are picked and it's time to start working on and submitting your entries!

If you're new to the OC Contest, the object is to submit your Ace Attorney themed Original Character represented in one of three mediums: Fanart, Fanfiction, or Sprites. A panel of judges will pick finalists out of the entries and host them on CR for an open vote among the community. Winner takes all! For more information and to grab an application, click the link!

Original Character Contest 09

Entries are due June 1st. If you have any questions, go ahead and list them here. We can't wait to see your entries!

Oh, wow. ^^ *Squees*
Anyways, question (couldn't find it on the page...): If I have a little bit of art of the character I want to submit posted somewhere already (actually, I'll give kudos if you can find my art accounts...^^ One on Suta-Raito Oekaki, one on Deviantart), can I still submit in Sprites and/or Fanart? (Not both, of course, I'm just undecided right now on which one I want to do.)

If not, that's fine--I have one or two more characters I could use. ^^ But I really do like this character design, so...yeah.

It doesn't matter if you've posted the character anywhere else before, as long as it's not a character you entered in a previous CR contest.

Question here...is it possible that the winner of the last year would win the prize again, or at least get into the finalist?

Quick question: in the fanart category, can the entry be shaded in one color (example: Greyscale) or must the entry be in full color?

Our winners from last year are not allowed to enter, as has always been the rule.

Entries do not have to be in color.

So, how exactly would I enter a fanfic :eh?:
I don't get it. When it says "correct format" what format is it?
Sorry for the bother. Do I host it on a website and give you link in the email or save it as a word document and attach it to the email or post it in a CR thread and just give you the link to that on the email???
Thanks ^_~ :shoe:

You can attach your fanfic as a .doc or a .txt or some such in the email. By format I mean in the grammatical sense - proper paragraphs and such.

The announcement is a little earlier than last year but the deadline is the same. I figured people would want the extra time~

Wait a second....

umm...

I have been working on a fanfiction entry for quite some time now, more than a year. Since it wasn't finished, I quickly drew up some half-assed "fan-art" in Adobe Flash and submitted it.

umm...

I really have been working on this fanficion for quite some time now... more than a year, I think I've mentioned...

SO I CAN'T ENTER IN THE FANFICTION CONTEST BECAUSE I PANICKED AND THREW IN A FANART ENTRY OF THE SAME CHARACTER LAST YEAR!!?!?!????!?!

Since we're allowed to enter "a collection of animated gifs" in the spriting division, are we allowed to have different age ranges of the same character (as there are two timelines now, Phoenix-timeline and Apollo-timeline)? For example, let's say if I originally created Ema Skye and submitted her as my character, would I be able to submit a sprite of her younger form and a sprite of her older form?

I'm a little disappointed by the prizes, to be honest.O_O Not that they're not lovely bookmarks, but I just don't find them all that worth it, especially in comparison to the prizes for the sprite cup.O_O I was hoping we'd see something like the Edgeworth Files book.

But the thing is, those bookmarks are hard to get now. The Edgeworth Files book, you can buy at most bookstores.

When I put my sprite into a .gif it causes the sprite to become spotted with pixels would this affect my chances? (seeing as I have no control over this happening to my sprite)

Have you tried saving it as .png?

The single sprites are fine, just the animated sprites have to be .gif to work in the thing I use to animate, it doesn't support .png files.

I see. Hopefully someone with more experience will come along and answer your question. The only think I can think of is maybe an image quality compression issue or something. When you save as a .gif does your image program give you a quality option?

Well it says it has to compress it to a certain amount of colors, but if I don't let it then the image can't save.

Indeed. I was lucky that a pal of mine got a set for my birthday this year - Otherwise, I would have had little to no chance to get them.

Are you saving as Gif in Paint? Bad Idea. Animate in gimp and it should be fine...

I know they're hard to find, but that doesn't change the fact that they're just bookmarks. They make a nice collector's item, but little more than that. For all the effort it takes to come up with a new original character and make a sprite, drawing, or story about them and then when with it, I'd rather have the manga or something I'd get more use out of than a couple bookmarks.@_@

It's all just for fun and bragging rights really. Plus the manga is fairly easy to get, unlike the bookmarks.

On another note, are the stickied sprite topics ever going to be unstickied? They've got a lot more than the actual prize, which was a week of being one.

It varies. Personally, I read all the time and would love some nifty bookmarks and I can guarantee I'd get a lot more use out of them than I would a manga I already got/can easily get.

And the book is so cheap!

If you had something a bit rare like the bookmarks you might be able to make a few bob off them ;^) not that I would sell them.

But hey if you win I'll happily swap my book for your bookmarks haha

YAY! I hope my entries are as good as some people. You guys make really good OC's. *turns green with envy*
Good luck, everybody else who enters!
PS. Steel Samurai, the bookmarks are a collector's item. You don't necessarily have to have use for them, they are just for show. (Like an attorney's badge... :phoenix: )
Sad to say, I've left C-R. I may still occasionally come on, but, y'know...
I just lost interest, but, this is still an awesome site.
I'll live on through my sprites, I hope. And my major contributions to the Max fanclub. ^_^
