It seems it's only the DS-i games (which will probably use the cameras and such) and DS-i ware software which are region-locked, not DS games (they've never been region-locked, why should they suddenly be region-locked ? ^^).
So, regular DS games will normally work on a DS-i, even though it's not from the same region as the console.
But I'm not sure, that's what I've heard though. It would be better if someone who had actually bought the console (it was released today in Europe) tell us if that's the whole console which is region-locked, and not only DS-i exclusive features ^^
As regards the console... very nice indeed, even though I must admit I would have prefered the GK logo on it... or perhaps the Nickel Samuraï... but the Blue Badger... my, the console is still very nice :D (But I prefer NOT to think about its price on Play-Asia. The LE's still gives me nightmares
)They have so many limited editions of DS-i in Japan, that's completely unbelievable... ;__;

nehh, DSi's aren't region-locked. you can play US games on japanese DSi's. but you can't change the language.
heck, i don't care about the language. i want an LE japanese DSi to play japanese & original US games, and later i will also buy a US DSi to play both US games and mod it when it's available.

Only the DSi-exclusive and DSiWare games are region-locked. Regular DS games work just as well on the DSi as they did on the older models.

Really, I had thought this would have been more expensive... but I don't have to worry, since after all, P-A will undoubtly add at least 40$ to the final price of the product, like they did with the LE xD (or the price of the US DS-i, with a wonderful POWER-UP of 70$ compared to the original price in the US
)And since this time, I'd kinda like to buy it... hum...
Hum... the problem would be the console's OS in Japanese...
Not that it really matters for playing US and Euro games, but I'm kinda worried about the DS-i ware and such xD
Oh, by the way, did you see that the LE of GS1 was also available on P-A ? Oh, it's been pre-owned, but it's still kinda nice :D
There's also the soundtrack of GS-3 (pre-owned too), but I don't know if that's the LE of the soundtrack or not

As regards Region protection, Wooster said everything you needed to know.
As regards the OS, you can't change the language of the OS on a DS-i. So that means if you buy a Japanese DS-i, the OS will be in Japanese, and Japanese only.
