I'll definitely be getting Soul Silver. Even though I like Ho-oh's appereance more, O think that Lugia's movepool has a wide variety that can OWN/KO Ho-oh in a couple of turns.

I was talking about her Diamond/Pearl skirt.
Mothers have always been weird in Pokemon. Letting ten year olds go roaming off into a world filled with giant bugs and rats and turtles?
Gold/Silver had the best mother. Plus she had the BEST. HAIR. EVER.

Aside from the first generation, I think most of the games thereafter had rivals with character development; R/S/E had sick kid Wally, who went from being someone too weak to catch a Pokemon by himself to being a fairly strong, independent trainer. FR/LG for the most part stayed true to having Blue be an ass for a majority of the game, though he does even out to an extent after you beat him at the Elite 4. Pearl began as a hyperactive fool rushing head-first into everything, but he mellows out somewhat after your last static battle with him in the Elite 4 lobby. The NPC for the characters not chosen by the player aren't really considered rivals, as you don't compete with them directly for the most part.
It is true, though, that Silver had the most development of all four real rivals. He went from being an arrogant, hatred-filled jackass with no care for his pokemon into a somewhat caring trainer, practically a complete turn around after his loss to Lance.

Btw, got a Crystal Rom. Not cause I don't like G/S, but Crystal WAS the best of the series.
