Hey, I'm fairly new to drawing PW so I've not got much. I've got a finished picture of Godot however, and a few doodles which I rather liked. Here:

Spoiler: Godot digital painting
Image
First actual completed painting of a PW piece. I'm really proud of this one.

Spoiler: Mia, younger
Image
I liked her attitude in this one, but she looks a little bald. XD

Spoiler: Pearl, older
Image
I wanted to draw what Pearl would look like when she was grown up. Had fun messing around with her hair, trying to get a more relaxed air about her. So I loosened the hair up and such.

Spoiler: "Dad" and Pearl (very rough, I just like the expression) GS4 SPOILER!!
Image
Seriously, you'd think he would have adopted PEARL, if he adopted Trucy, right?

Spoiler: Dahlia Hawthorne (digital sketch) GS3 SPOILER!!
Image
I never really finished this. I went through stages of painting it, but I curse my stupidity for not looking at a reference beforehand.. or using a better brush :( Here's how I messed it up lol- http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/040509/57068_WIP.jpg. Along with a WIP painting of Maya I never finished.

That's it really, hope to contribute more when I get around to it :)

I couldn't agree more; that expression on Pearl is nothing short of charming. ~ <3

All of your sketches are loose and fun, I can't wait to see more work from you!

Another dump.

Young Mia Fey
Ema Skye
Gumshoe from behind, and Franziska with a poised whip

Any crits and such welcome XD I kept redoing the big Young Mia's face from memory to see if I could get it right. ;; I'm terrible with faces.

Trying to work on proportions and challenging poses (hence Ema) to try and expand what flawed human drawing skill I have at the moment XD;

If you want crit from me, if you're still learning, I suggest you learn off a reference- preferably a naked one (Not cause artists are perverts, but so you can see the body form). It's a BIG help. It's a VERY difficult task being able to draw from all angles off head. I think you're better to keep it simple till you nail down your anatomy confidence. Specially with the Ema one. You have a difficult pose there, and its missing out of a few things like balance, and angles and stuff. If you're going to give it a go, make it easier on yourself :) I always use a referance if I'm trying an exotic pose :godot:

Thanks Arkillian :) I kept wondering about what was going wrong. My boyfriend told me that my proportions were a bit shaky, yet I didn't know how; I figured I'd got the essence of the poses down pat, but looking at it again, the realism of it's a bit off. I guess I'm not really learning a lot when it comes to the most basic elements. Especially just by doing lots of very complicated stuff off the top of my head x__x

I've got one more session of Life Drawing before I'm out for the summer, so I'll make sure to give this one all I've got! :will: Again thanks for the advice :phoenix:

Hah, thanks Leesers XD I thought she looked grumpy enough to be Franzy :franny:

There's nothing wrong with complex poses :) Foreshortening is a REALLY technical pose though, cause it's really difficult to do it without boxing it out, and having a clear image of it in your head. IF you go off a reference, then its easier to see the pose, and learn it correctly. That's where alot of fun artists go wrong. They draw alot, which is great, but their progression of learning is slow, cause they're not basing it off existing humans.

Do you do construction lines? They help ALOT. Tell me if you don't know what they are and I'll see if I can explain them

I have a fair idea what they are, though I only do them in rough 'outline' when I'm drawing :yuusaku: I really suck at doing them in Life Drawing, though. That is, measuring the figure accurately... :chinami: I mess it up -every- time.

I wouldn't mind a little 'fresher course' ma'am :salute:

Just my opinion. But your art doesn't look like it's meant to be realistic, in fact it's very old school manga or anime with a little hint of US cartoons (Sheesh, I sound like I'm tasting something). Measuring the figure accurately took some time for me aswell, hell I can do a whole lot of improvement especially at the head, it bomes too big too little in some cases. I think chief here will give you a good lesson, so I'll leave it to her.

:maya: I don't really intend for my art to be 100% realistic. It's more a case of the foundation beneath my particular style that needs working on- anatomy and such. Credibility really.

Old school anime, eh? I never thought of that! I knew I was trying to go for the semi-realistic 'cartoon' that Capcom does (not like the stereotypical big eyes and pointy faces that some anime just can't get enough of :| but a lot more refined), that and US cartoon; a lot of my drawing was inspired by those XD I've been told that my style tends to be very.. cute. :ayame:
Thanks for the observation :edgy:!

I thought it was just me with the measuring. XD;; I got myself seriously stressed trying to do it with the plumline(sp?), as it wouldn't even stay still enough for me to DO any measuring. Measuring with the pencil still needs a Lotta work too. Hah. hah. hah.... </moecurls> Guess I just need to be more patient. But still manage to get it properly measured and drawn before.. the session is up :sadshoe:

LOL. I wont say the image that came to my head with the way you worded that XD

Realism. Again, I REALLY hate that word XD I's used so loosley nowdays for anythign that has a semi decent shading effect- specially if it's in pencil.

DON'T STRESS OVER STYLE- That's my rule :godot:

Seriously. Draw how you like to draw. Don't give a s@#$ abotu what others think about it cause if YOU don't like the style, then what's the point. Dont' worry if it looks real, looks manga or what. Find how you like to draw and draw it. You'll perfect ANY style of art given time and practise. Remember- given that you practise art, you WILL get better at it cause it's not a skil, as much as a mind set. Knowing what to look for etc... Cause of this, I always recommend comparing last year you to this year you. Did you improve? Yes? Good, move on. You my not be Van Gogh now, but give it a few hundred years and you could make his level ;)

For now though... construction lines. Oh man... so difficult to explain without visuals.

Essentially, the world is made up of circles, cylinders, squares, and cubes. If you can draw a cube or cylinder, then you have the building blocks of ANYTHING. If you use a visual referance and start blocking the complex shape of the human form into simpler shapes, it's alot easier to draw. It's a little hard for me to show you some examples, as I skip blocking out sometimes and do quick flow lines before jumping straight to final lines (You get use to certain poses after a while)

This tutorial covers a few key basics from this book (I learnt to draw from this book- I highly recommend it. It isn't done in manga style however. Take all the tuts with a grain of slt though and you'll be fine. It's also mow 50 years old and still in print. The tuts are VERY simple, but the art style it's drawn in is old school ^^;

One more trick before I go to bed (cause I'm about to fall over right now T.T )

Image

Flip the image- whether you hold it to the light or flip horizontally, do it, cause the image looks ALOT different backwards. That example above isn't too bad, but a strained area is more obvious when flipped. Don't ask why- it's voodoo magic.

I hope this all helps. I donno if I answered any questions or not but feel free to ask- I'll get back to them when I'm not so tired T.T

:godot: I see what you did there.

Thanks very much!! I've just gone and bought the book off of ebay. :3 Like I say, I'm not fussy about learning styles, I'm quite happy with how I draw to a degree, i.e my personal style. I just want to learn to draw situations more accurately and less flimsily, as I have a habit of doing, even with what I think to be...pretty alright construction lines. Guess there were faults in those XD; The tutorial page for the heads is really a big help :pearl: (I couldn't print the whole thing without the text being horribly teensy, as it wouldn't let me print more than one page of it... but I can see what I need to do, so I will have a good go at it XD).

Funnily enough, now I think about it, I've got a before and after in my life drawing book of the same exact pose, with and without construction line. When my first drawing went horribly wrong, and went better when I used a simple shape/line face guide. It's a simple construction line, but yeah. *roots it out* Voila!

http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/250509/ ... C_0212.JPG

This was drawn four months ago. ;_; Wake up call: use these more damnit!!

And the flipping? You're right! I found an odd area in that old Dahlia sketch that I never would have if I just left it in that angle. xD; Enough to change it around a bit so it didn't look so, bad XD. Really does help change perspective and how I see the picture, I can't believe I forgot about that ._. We did that once or twice during life drawing with a mirror but since then we didn't do it again. Now I know to do it a lot more often!

I should really buy a small mirror <.<

Many thanks for the refresher! :maya:

Looking good, but just watch the head there, you'll need to shrink the size of Godot's head- unless you want him chibified. Just thought I'd point that out before it got too progressed (hopefully?)

The tragic couple. I thought that there'd be happiness between the two, of course, but because of how their relationship came about, from amidst trauma of a trial they couldn't save, a more bittersweet image would be suited. Makes me feel more for it, anyway. Happy but painful at the same time. :acro: A bit rough, still (the hand holding the mug is a bit pants, lol). And a nice bandage for Diego. XD

I'd very much like to get into the PW arts again, but there's so much going on I don't know what to do first. :/ So here's a bunch of few-month-old stuffs that I rather liked, even if there's glaring problems with them.
