A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox Television confirms that the cable net has ordered 26 new episodes of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's late, great animated series to air beginning in 2010. The studio cites Futurama's "blockbuster" performance on DVD and in reruns on Comedy Central as the reason for its rebirth.
THANK GOD. I'm glad that one of my favorite TV Series isn't dead...yet. The ending of Beyond the Wild Green Yonder was so abrupt that I was pissed since at the time, I thought that was the last Futurama episode. Thank you

Well, Family Guy was a mistake to bring back--even Seth McFarline admitted to this. You can only milk the same gags so many times before people get tired of it. The fans wanted it back and when they get their wish, they're not happy with it. Seth had to learn the hard way what most people in the business already know: NEVER listen to the fanboys/girls!
Now Futurama...there was something to look forward to every episode! And just in time, too--I think Matt Groening may be ready to finally admit that after making The Simpsons Movie, he's run out of ideas XD
For those who don't know, The Simpsons broke the record for the world's longest-running TV show in syndication 12 years ago so I'd say they should milk it for what they can before wrapping up XD

In a way, I'm pretty sure that the storylines used in the Simpsons that made absolutely no fucking sense were recycled, as much as possible, Futurama plots.
So, in a way, Futurama made the Simpsons suck. Whether that be through recycling plots or being a far fucking better show, you decide.

Futurama is one of my favourite shows. I'm glad to hear it's coming back, but I really, really hope it doesn't fall flat on it's face. I don't want them to force it or exhaust past jokes, which is always a risk when resurrecting a legendary series. But if they do manage to pull it off, it shall be wonderful! :D

Yes, yes indeed, cue dramatic music right there. Variety has the following statement from 20th Century Fox TV:
"We love the 'Futurama' voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands," 20th Century Fox TV said in a statement. "While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David's brilliantly subversive characters."
So is this real? Are they really going to recast the cast? No. It's just a sleazy way of reducing their salary.
Let me break it down for you: Futurama voice actors knows how much they are worth for the show. They are the show. As a result, they believe they can be required for some higher salaries. 20th Century Fox TV are not willing to go that way, and say they will dump their sorry asses if they don't conform. The voice actors says 20th Century Fox TV is bluffing, to which Fox responds, "watch me, poor man".
Next day, they are out announcing the opening of casting for all the Futurama cast and everybody gasps in horror. The voice actors notice the chaos on the Internet and decides to go down in salary. The fans and the show get their voice actors, and they get less money. And 20th Century Fox TV comes out as the sleazy bastards they are.
So, with the exception of the pocket for the voice actors, I don't think there is much to worry here.
