Now, a ponder about the true Gant. It might be me but it seems implied that he has a deep seated hate for crime, a very means to meet the ends, destroy all deviance etc etc over the top crazy order type of guy. This made me think, if his intentions started off good but he grew either disillusioned with how things are done, power hungry or just over the top then why did that happen? Maybe the shocker could be that he was once just like Gumshoe but had a bad experience, his wife being killed by a mugger or the murder getting away scot-free?
My inner dramatics is thinking that yes, Gant was like Gumshoe is a scary way, with a prosecutor he followed around, a girl he had a crush on etc, just more competent perhaps but something went bad, maybe the prosecutor got killed or the girl (Maggey clone) was pushed of a wall (twist on the first Maggey case) and BOOM Gant the Ganter was born!
That all said, I think it might be also insinuated that innocent people might got prosecuted because of him but damn, look at all the innocent people prosecuted because of Gumshoe? haha.
