This is a teaser comic I'm making for my epic length Phoenix Wright Fanfic- Turnabout Attorney that I'm writing- I drew it hoping to get my watchers on Deviantart to start reading it, and it ended up becoming popular because of it :gant:

There are only 9 more issues left! I wont be printing ANY more copies of this comic after that! So get in while it's still here!

Firstly The Fanfic is posted in this forum, should you chose to read it after being suitably teased by my comic.

The story is intended to be a Crime based story, with some humour, courtcases, and a good deal of mystery- as the games tend to be. I feel that I'm mostly true to character with this- we shall see :)

Also- please note- The story is based DIRECTLY after PW3- Trials and Tribulations. It hints a few things about Apollo Justice, but it's safe amounts- if you don't want spoilers on the first 3 games, tread carefully.

Anyways, without any more ado, here's the comic :)

Spoiler: The comic

The printed version looks like this

This comic is limited edition to only 50 copies made, so when the numbers are gone, then it's all gone! This is likely the only fan comic I'll make, so get in quick ;)

Spoiler: Details on how to purchase a copy of this comic
I'll have a Paypal option open to all international sales.

The world- $13 US dollars <- This is not track and trace sadly. If you wish to have track and trace, I will need to quote specially for it based on your location
These prices all include shipping rates (cause there's no point posting them otherwise, right? :) )

Please note- as New Zealand is updating our GST I've had to increase the price a little for the freight and new exchange differences.

If you wish to pay by Paypal, please Use your Court Records ID name and ACTUAL name in the details with the address you wish me to sent it to. My Paypal account is arkillian at gmail dot com (at = @ and dot = . )

Um- Do enjoy, and tell me if I caught a few fans with my hook line and sinker! :april: Once more , here is the fan fic if you're dying to read it :hotti:

Oooh... Comic art to drool on... Fantastic coloring, I have some questions to ask (about the technique) If you don't mind? :edgy:

I was wondering how the texture on the clothes were made!? I gotta learn that! :larry:

I was wondering how and what you used to outline, shade and texture the panels, and how the panels themselves were made? Also can I see the pencil art? It may help me learn. :grey:

:grey: That's a bit of info there that you want.

Ummm... Well, if you mean by pencils that you mean the sketch, then they look a little something like this - Inked pages however look alot more this (Page 1 of Part 2 inks).

The textures in all the 'grey scale' art was done by Manga studio, a program specifically made for laying down screen tones (except I'm not too good at it and use it like grey scale XD Not so good of me apparently). I ink in Copic multiliner pens- I use a range of pens to give some line variation- 0.05mm (For the needle fine stuff), 0.3 , 0.5, 0.8, and 1.0mm (usually for very large panels).

As for layouts... Hur... It's not something that can be explained by me. I still play it by ear. Alot of just doing it comes into place. Try it, see what works. Wizard put out a bunch of great How to books on comics- I own all of them. Variation is the biggest key thoguh, and making sure everything either reads from left to right, top to bottom, or right to left top to bottom. No random bouncing around the place cause order arrows are ugly. IT's just nicer if it flows. Does that help any? ^^;

That helped a lot actually, thank you! I think I'll look up this manga studio, maybe try it out, if it's easier than photoshop then fantastic!

It has less features, but I wouldn't call it easier ^^; Its MUCH better for toning though, cause instead of deleting tone as you apply and un apply it, it makes each tone a layer, and you mask and unmask it so if you delete it and then want it back, the tone pattern isn't changed :) Very handy.

It has a huge tone library too. It's not what I'd call easy to use though. I find Photoshop alot easier in some ways. Photoshop can't do this specific job though

Sorry, but no. I do have a Shelly De Killer offspring in the story though. Relax your mind set and read it again and you'll figure that one out. It's in the teaser

Wow! I've followed this whole thread as it was progressing, and it's really something else. <3

Your comic style is very distinct and crisp, and I love the bold use of simply black and white. It really keeps your eyes engaged with the entire page. And even though you're utilizing a lot of tones, which I normally would associate with manga, I get a distinct early to mid 1990's feel from this preview.

Have you ever read David Mack's early comic work by any chance? Not so much the other five volumes in the series (since those are where he began to experiment with his INCREDIBLE mixed media technique that we all know and love today) but I was reminded a bit by your style of the first volume in his "Kabuki" series, Circle of Blood. It's really something else, and utilizes strong darks and lights like yours. =)

My silly rambling aside, it would be amazing if you kept up evolving your writing into a comic format. I think it really suits your storytelling and artwork. Lovely job on these ~ I can only hope you'll continue with your work! <3

I haven't read it, but I know the artist you mean. His water colour work is very pretty ^^ I'm inspired more by the works of Greg Land. I'm not sure how much comes out in my art (I've been told by someone that the influence is strong in my art), but his art made me fall in love with art again. I had 4 years for drawing DBZ, and Akira Toriyamas style took over my own, and I was heart broken when my friend told me that she hated my art style and wanted me to go back to my old one. It took me AGES to find myself again, but after discovering a comic Sojourn, I fell in love with art again, and was reinspired to try once more.

Image

Image His older work I've seen, was this run of Nightwing (Which I owned not knowing it was him but still loved it- I now have his REALLY old Supergirl stuff too.

Image End song was a more recent run he did- I have this poster on my wall. I bought his run and I don't buy Marvel comics.

Also Frank Cho, and Micheal Turner (RIP) inspired me alot. Alot of people say my style is old school, btu I think it's cause I learnt from a 1960s art book. I still hold the book in VERY high regard tutorial wise, but I think it's just how my art is in comparison to manga styled art. I think I'm a hybrid style- which is kinda annoying. Purists don't like my art >.> The Manga purists say its old school, and the realists say that it's too cartoony. I can't win :meekins:

Have you read the story to it? I'd love to know people's opinions :edgy:

Wow, I haven't seen this thread in awhile... Page 9 looks friggin' great, toning that must have taken time!

I wanna ask though, how do you ink? By tablet or pens?

Either way, I really want to see more eye-candy for your fanfic!

With doing more, I have other projects sadly- I fought to finish this cause I knew it had fans :(

Updating the old Part 1 teaser pages with screen toned version cause I'm putting these out in a printed comic and colour is expensive. The toned pages look ALOT better than the old ones. This is Part 1 Page 1. Larger version on the original post. Heheh... I corrected a few lazy lines of mine while I was at it also XD

Ah, I remember than page. Yeah, now it looks better, the solid fills of color doesn't go with AA in my opinion.

Also, thanks for the inking advice! I don't use Copic Multiliners (Pricey pens) yet, but I am currently practicing with a pen and nib. It takes time to get use to though... And finding Indian Ink is really tough...

Some people have suggested I do that, but it's very messy, and I do alot of art on the run cause I'm not home enough. I need somethign portable. That's why I like the copics- nice solid black line and it feels REALLY good to draw with.

Um... I buy them in bulk, so for me, they're the same price as the cheep pens, but ALL ink pens are expensive in New Zealand. It's like $5 each for a cheap one. Paying full retail to me of $7 for the copics is a no brainer to me in comparison. I guess it all depends on budget though

As for the pic though- if I could colour, I'd be fine T.T I'm crap at colour though. Thus- I redo them ALL! :D

OK- I know that people are probably sick of seeing this thread, but this is the last time I'm updating this I swear. This is all proof read and all collected into one comic, with 2 extra joiner pages featuring some nice Gumshoe x Edgeworth stuff, and a Godot page quoting an actual scene in the story.

I know that no one likes commenting on my art much now days, but it would be nice to have one or two comments :sadshoe: I'd like to know that this doujin actually IS worth selling T.T

The Gant on page 10 is amazing. Like, wow - bish much?

Plus I love you for the segue between page 7 and 8: The last panel of pg7 and the first two of pg8. That's ace imagery, right there. And Diego's 'shock' look on pg8 - it's very characteristic. It's not a D: shock, but a... Diego shock. That face said more "Say whaaaat," than "WTF I LOST, I sure am shocked".

...I don't think that made sense :yogi: Made more sense in my head.

x__x I'm bad at criticism, especially with people that are leagues ahead of me in technical skill. It usually just comes out more like "zomgfangirlsqueal*.

Sorry- was up till 3am finishing the print version of this comic (I'm gonna regret the lack of sleep later on today when it hits me- I'm currently running on adrenaline or something of the kind), so I couldn't answer, but I'll give it a go now ^^

I think I get what you mean by what you're saying there- Page 8 was drawn about 6 months before page 7, and I fought long and hard to think of how I could join it to part 1 (1-5), so pages 6 and 7 were an after thought, but I thought that at the worst, the visual links between Godot's face and pose, and Diego's would be a strong enough link to join them seamlessly (It's not just enough to write one page to fit another- it needs to visually link, specially with how different Diego and Godot are.

The expressions… XD It’s not easy visualizing how a character would react in a situation, and even harder to draw it- I figure that the whole trial was like a bad dream to him, where’s he’s at the end and still can’t understand why pig can fly, and how Blue badger was doing the moon walk around the court room (didn’t anyone SEE that besides Diego? XD ). The first one of Godot was mostly a copy, but a slightly older version of him.

(I didn't think Damon Gant was bishie on that page... is it my style doing that? O.o )

So basicly, you're making a whole comic book, which you are going to professionally print 50 times, and sell them?
Sounds like an awesome idea! Those 50 copies will be sold in NO-TIME!

Sorry that it took me this long to say this, but ZETH EQUALS COOLNESS! :gant:

Nar- I'm actually scared it WONT sell out. Why do I say this? A few good reasons-

  • The NZ market for Phoenix Wright is REALLY limited. I'm going to be relying on Internet sales, which worries me, cause it's online for free :(
  • It's only a TEASER comic, so it's not self containing. Most people will put it down if they have to research the full story
  • I haven't finished the fanfic yet. This already puts half of my DA watchers off reading it cause they want to read it all at once. I know this cause I made a poll.

So I've got REALLY good reason to print only 50 copies :( Not cause I'm an exclusive asshole, but because I don't think I'll actually sell 100 or more copies. That's just the NZ market for you. If I can't sell 50% of it here, I sure as heck wont make up for it in internet sales. Most of the people that watch me on DA cry cause they don't have a credit card >.>

In saying this, The story HAS has a big lead up, so I might be wrong. Who knows. I hope I'm wrong XD I'm glad that you like Zeth thoguh ^^ I never did this comic to make money off it- I did it so people could read about what goes on in my head. Zeth is a very different character than I'm use to as well- he's alot older, sneekier, and MUCH more cynical than I'm use to. It's been a fun ride for me XD

Euros will make my comic INSANELY cheep >.> You wouldn't believe. Convert $10 NZD to your currency, and allow.... I think it'll be about $3.50 for freight. It's not much at all. It'll be atleast halved for you guys cause your dollar is so strong against ours ^^;

It's a 24 page comic at A4 size, Colour cover, black and white internals. I was gonna pimp this when I had photos of the product, but I may as well do that now :)

Okay, that's really cheap. Wow.

It's average for an NZ comic of that size :nods:

*Teasergasm*

The teaser reeeeeally made me want to click on that fanfic (Trust me, I had to step on my hands for a few minutes), but I'll save it for comic-time. This is sure to be heading on my PW Horde *cough*A chest filled with merchendise*cough*. *Old business man voice* You're gonna be a big hit kid!

And how about signed front covers?

Heheh... I do hope you read it at some point ^^ It might be best to give it a mont h though so I can spell/ grammar / nonsense check the story. Although it is more coherant than my Rps, I was very sick when I wrote most of it... and high for other parts (I'm serious. I was high off some of the drugs I was on- thus the birth of Zeth XD )

I can sign covers :) That's no prob. I can even let you chose what number you want :) Assuming it's not sold yet XD

Lol- sure :) I'll sign anything XD I nearly got away with signing another guy's CD that he was selling cause he forced me to take control of his stall for ten minutes. He got back JUST as I touched the pen to his CD XD I sounded so convincing and EVERYTHING XD Lol. Luckily my friend had humour about it since I had sold his stuff when he was gone ;)
